Do you think the pilot did a good job?

No, he almost killed kids that were swimming, two of whom ducked as he flew overhead. He ditched outside the emergency ditching area in order to save the aircraft by getting it near the beach. He kept flying after three pilots in the air, and the Air Boss told him he was trailing smoke. He stated on the radio "it'll be OK." He returned to the airshow box twice, at 200' AGL, after being informed he was trailing smoke. He did not attend the mandatory pilot's briefing. I could talk about the maintenance errors on this plane, how they failed on certain work, which caused oil starvation, and how nobody from Valliant Air Command, who own this plane, attended the pre-show crew briefing, but that's enough to state "No, he did not do a good job!" He should lose his certificate, and Valliant Air Command should be punished. Several kids were nearly killed by this menu of pilot, mechanic, and company errors. FSDO errors, too, as they didn't know nobody from VAC attended the mandatory FAA briefing.

Yes, he did a good job (for landing)

This is the second TBM this pilot has destroyed, the first being in Millville, NJ when a fire caused by improper maintenance led to the pilot being badly burned and the aircraft destroyed. The Cocoa Beach ditching here was also the result of poor maintenance and poor piloting decisisions. The ditching itself is picture perfect albeit dangerously close to the swimmers. I don't believe the FAA is very happy about this incident.

yes I believe he did. no one got hurt and he the pilot is good.. at least he was close to the beach part.. where it was not far for him to get help,. the plane will take a lot of work.. to fix.. but hey it can be done.. not only that everyone went home that day!!! Beautiful plane!

Glad to hear the pilot is ok. I hope they're able to restore the plane.

The TBM was destroyed removing it from the water - the surf overnight began the destruction, the "recovery" finished it.

@@AMNESIAA_ No, it did not. The wreckage is currently stored at New Smyrna FL airport. American Aero Services report that it is not salvageable. The hulk was to go to a Russian Lend Lease museum, but due to the current political crisis, its fate is currently undetermined.
Even if it was restorable, such a project would take several years.

@@AMNESIAA_ No, the hulk is still outside in pieces.at American Aero in New Smyrna, FL. The hulk was destined to go to a Lend Lease museum in Russia, but with the current state of affairs, that is on hold. The aircraft will never fly again.

Im rn doing a presentation on water ditchings including Miracle on the Hudson. They are definitely not an easy feat, this pilot exemplifies quite an extraordinary landing.

I'm so sad. Not many Avengers can still fly. Even Tony Stark can't now.

Isso é um típico exemplo para quem não acredita mais na humanidade, mesmo correndo risco de explosão os banhistas foram socorrer os pilotos. Parabéns a todos!

What an idiot. He completely ignored the early warnings that his engine was failing - he could have landed at the airfield as there was plenty of time before it did fail, but no, he just carried on regardless.
    What a cowboy!
He seriously endangered those in the sea by reckless flying - I hope he gets prosecuted.
