You know what's ironic?
The uploader of this video claims he is comparing 1080p vs. 2K vs. 4K.
Where in fact he is actually comparing 1080p vs. 2.5K, vs. UHD.
2560x1440 is 2.5k gaming.
1920x1080 is 2k gaming
takes 4 1080 for 4k 2x2 = 4
takes 4 4 k for 8 k gaming 2x4 = 8
and still notice the difference.
2560x1440 is 2k -_-
1920x1080 is just 1080 or fhd. Noone calls it 1k or 2k
Ten-eighty is easy to say, not like forteen-frorty or twenty one-sixty.
4k, perfect for when you play a game in 80% zoom mode.
Or if you plan on buying a a 32 inch monitor for up close gaming, or if you plan on buying a 60+ inch tv for mid range view gaming.
4K resolutions are the bomb if you have the screensize.
just hook it up on your tv, works almost as good as a monitor plus its free (if you have one)
which is only applicable to those who can afford a $7,000 gaming setup anyway. Which is probably a few people.
It's just not worth it right now unless you have a six figure job or high five figure job.
I just spent 3k on my laptop (could've opted for gtx 1080 ti SLI) but I'm just not making enough to justify spending 3k on something JUST to game on. Would have to spend a good amount more for a desk, speakers and a damn good monitor.
Maybe in a couple more years from now.
Honestly tried this, and there is some nasty screen tearing. At least for Bioshock Infinite at 4k.

Yeah, Games like Witcher 3 are real Art, nobody knows, how much work this is taking, and how much expertise and skill is needed for this, and than people cry paying 60€ for games like this!

both the 1080p and 2k videos are run on a non native resolution monitor whereas the 4k is. this means the graphics will look fuzzy on the 1080p and 2k videos. on 1080p or 2k monitor these videos would be much much clearer. for those not in the know, this is a scaling issue and can be fixed by tweeking settings for apps/games under properties

Yes, I love putting my face right in front of the monitor when playing The Witcher so I can see how many pixels are in Geralt's face.

1080 still looks fine for me.
The most intriguing thing noticeable was the massive drop in framerate from 1080p - 4k, or 2k - 4k. The choppiness was real. 2k seems to be the limit on your system w/o ridiculously low framerate. Must have been around 30-45 fps, which, to me, is noticeable and unacceptable when gaming. Verdict: 2K is the ideal happy medium.
Also, for fastpaced gaming like an Fps or other such, reponse time and refresh rates are far more important than resolution. Ideally, 1 ms response and 144hz (or higher) refresh rate. Resolution makes it look better, while response time and refresh rates make turning/twitch 'ghosting free', no tearing, and smooth as silk, like real life. Higher res is for visual embellishment. I prefer 2.5k and 4.5k. Higher than 4.5K isn't all that noticeable, as 4.5k is just about as saturated with pixels to reflect the real world as you'll ever really need. Higher res IMHO is just for people who have money to burn for bragging rights. Simple eg. are people who have a Bugatti. Does anyone NEED one? No. Would it be cool to have one? Sure, if you have $1.5m to drop on a single car.
the massive drop in framerate is due to his graphics processor. didnt have anything powerful enough to render those 4k textures. hell its 2019 and my RTX 2070 struggles to keep my frames consistently above 40 on a 4k monitor
@@funkdahmental My gtx 1080 ti 11gb oc is pretty good in 4k, but i love to use mods and reshades so i limit some games to 45 fps, but rdr 2 on 4k in 40 fps is really smooth

We do not use microscope while playing to see all these small details, so you just do not notice them.

Wow, the difference at distance is amazing. I cant wait for tech to get affordable enough to run 4k at 60fps. You might actually be able to see more than a blur when looking far down the road.

IM PLAYING THIS GAME IN 1440P ON MEDIUM OVER 60 FPS. COULD DO HIGH BUT WILL GET 60 FPS. I SHOULD BE HAPPY I AM TO PLAY IT AT 1440P INSTEAD OF 1080P ULTRA.

1440p is the best because it is the perfect middle between 1080p and 4k. Wont break the bank either but still looks gorgeous and better than standard FHD.

Man the difference between 1440p (refered here as 2k) and 4k is HUUUUGE and before zooming in! My eyes definitely appreciate 4k while some other dont notice that much of a difference
I can see the clear difference even on a 1080p monitor. The grass is a blurry strip on 1080p, while in 4K it's possible to distinguish different batches of grass.
I really hope it gets to the point where you’ll be able to play with 4K on ultra in games like GTA V with 240fps on a 4K 240hz monitor

I have a 4K monitor and the highest is playing 4K. Phones aren't likely to have a 4K option on the TH-cam app (not sure about brand new phones)

for me 2k is the ideal point, it's not as blurry as 1080p, and it doesn't lose as much performance as 4k
I can notice a big difference between all three on my 65 inch TV. I didn't think I'd see such a big difference!

You mislabeled the middle resolution: It should be, "2.5K," not, "2K."
4K is the most perfect one, but more expensive. Since my RTX 3060 can't really handle 4K
I choosed to buy a 2K monitor from Samsung Odyssey G5, very proud by owning it.

Games nowadays are smooth they lost the roughness that we old school gamers prefer
1080p = 200+fps
2k = 100+fps
4k = 30fps
In fast FPS games, you will be moving around so fast you won't even notice the difference anyways
1080p vs 4k in a vlog would be a thing featured in a video titled on the lines of... "if you spot the difference you're a genius - 1% of the world spot the difference"

This video mainly shows you the discrepancies of resolution in tune with graphic settings. The zoom is just to show how different resolutions can filter out bad aliasing, you guys are being a bit over critical. Great video I think the difference is massive!

Yeah 2k and 4k are both, techincally incorrect. 1440p often gets mistaken for 2k when 2k is the cinema version of 1080p which is 2048x1080, and 4k is actually 4096x2160. Desktop resolutions and movie resolutions are differentttt
fuck up. jesus. every 1440p monitor is marketed as a 2k monitor. Whether the pixels and shit line up is irrelevant. It's titled "2k" monitor. Most 5L v8 engines aren't truly 5L, they just round it up to be a nice, even number. Why don't you write an angry email to every manufacturer ever, and demand they change the description of their 2k monitors to 2.5k, as THEY are clearly wrong.
There is a big difference to me. The noise and blurriness on the bottom is a lot more pronounced than the top one in 4K and this does not even take into account the much faster frame per second rates on 4K's or the fact that they also have HDR while 1080 screens do not. I also have bad astigmatism and the difference is still big.

i thought my game had problem with grass/trees texture. turns out 1080p sucks balls. had to use dsr to game on 4k to fix the texture problem. gta 5 grass looks better on 1080p
You dont really notice those little details unless you’re the type of gamer that just walks around and be amazed by the graphics instead of playing the actual game what you do really notice is the fps going from smooth to wtf
Playing at a resolution that is above Full HD is simply a total loss of performance, because in practice you won't notice these minimal differences for resolutions above Full HD...
Now theres not much 4k montiors with 144hz, enough brightness nits to enable the hdr, low contrast ratio.....

Just recently started playing games at 2160p and i am in awe the whole time i am playing.
you wont be able to see the difference unless your monitor supports 4k, and to see the difference you cant leave it at 4k and compare it. You gotta change from 1080 to 2k to 4k and look at each slide on its said resolution to truly see the difference

4k for singleplayer games or a few online games where the refresh rate doesn't matter

Remember those days when you DIDN'T have to zoom in so much to get a good reolution comparison?
they do it so if people have lower res screens they can still see not everyone has a 4k screen to show the number of pixels it has compared to lower ones you cannot show 4k properly on a 1080p screen because you can not change the physical pixels of a screen without a new one with a higher amount of pixels so they zoom it in so you get a better idea of it for the pixel density, people used to complain there is no difference between HD and 480p back when hd was entering the market and it is happening again and it will continue to happen with 8k and 16k res until they get it and then they try going back from 4k to 1080p and they cannot because it looks worse i play at 4k and most if not all the stuff i do on my screen is 4k if it is lower i see the difference and it looks worse just as it would be worse going from 1080p to 480p

chris a screen that small will not let you see any difference in pixel quality unless you are using binoculars or have superhuman eyesight
I own a 55" 4k tv, and the difference between 4k and 1080p is literally indistinguishable from beyond 4 feet away. Your eye literally cannot distinguish the pixel density unless you have beyond 20/20 vision
Apple's displays are 1080p on 5.5" and it is already beyond the limit of the human eye
This isnt my opinion, this is the actual science behind display tech. If you have 20/20 vision you cannot see a difference between 1080p and 4k on a 4" screen unless your face is 4" away or closer.

1440P = 2.5K
Well, 3840 × 2160 is sometimes called 4k. So taking a guess, mathematically, 2k, at the same aspect ratio is therefore 1920x1080. So that's not how to do it. I could average 3840 and 1920, but that's not 1440p either. So 2k does seem to be a confusion resolution name for 1440p

"2k" is the standard cinema industry resolution wich is 2048 x 1080, it's near to full hd, it's 2.3Mpixels
1440p is a pc resolution : 4x720P basically, named QHD because Quad HD, 4 time the HD ready standard (720p), we could name this "3.7k" because it's 3,7Mpixels.
and "4K" is the cinema industry resolution wich is 4096 x 2160 and is near to UHD wich is 4x1080p and it's 8Mpixels.
Simple as that.

I don't like the term 2k, i just doesn't represent 1440p properly, 4k doesn't have twice the pixels on the 'y' plane. Probably why '2k' never caught on.
It has roughly 2 times the pixels overall, and 4k has 4 times the pixels of 1080p overall. 1080p = 2mil pixels, 2k = 3.7mil pixels (85% more is damn close to 100% if you ask me), 4k = 8 mil pixels.
2K never caught on just because is so similar to 1080p (True 2K of DCI is 2048x1080)

I can't tell the difference between 1080p, 2k and 4k unless I really concentrate to look at it. Unless you really zoom it in.
At 1:1, the human eye with 20/20 vision cannot discriminate above 1080p. The difference only matters when the images are magnified.

Frank Black yea yea and some people say that the human eye can’t see above 24 fps yet I can clearly see if something is 144fps or 24fps and I can see if something is 1080p, 1440p and 2160p, more detail is present the higher your pixel density is.

Depends. 4k only at 32", and only if you have a strong gpu and plan to play games like Tomb Raider, Cyberpunk, Witcher. It will be gorgeous. If you go for 27", 1440p is enough, though it will not have the sharpness of a 4k display. But if you play a lot of multiplayer games and enjoy being good at it, 144hz is the way to go.

2K is 1080p. Just like 2160p is 4K... 1440p is not 2K... to be honest 1080p is not 2K just like 2160p is either not 4K. You call it FHD and UHD.. 1440p is QHD. You cant call 3840x2160 a 4K Resolution.
I just tried 2k few weeks ago came from 1080p, now I don't wanna go back. planing to buy pc. 4k is too much sacrificing fps and expensive.
1440p (2k) at higher FPS (100-160fps) is WAAY better than 4k at 20-40 FPS.
