    • @mistag3860
      @mistag3860 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

Maybe because its a tired and whiny blues pentatonic tuneless drab 3 chord trope. Its awful, if you take the time to actually listen, tokenism 'rap' for the 3rd verse, and the reason no-one hears this, or even seeks to is because its crap. I think a grammy should have gone to Cory Henry, or Snarky Puppy, you know - good new MUSIC, that blends gospel, jazz, blues, and pop into a unique style that FILLS halls throughout the world. You still wonder why its not on the radio? its RUBBISH, and boring, even on the first listen, predictable, and whiny shit.

The folk that judge these awards shat in my cheerios, thanks! they are either deaf, or stupid, probably both. So virtuous tho, never mind, she should have called it ''I cant sing'' and it may have been played on the radio a bit more as light comedy. Laughter is natures medicine.

Started a war screaming "Peace" at the same time
All the corruption, injustice, the same crimes
Always a problem if we do or don't fight
And we die, we don't have the same rights
What is a gun to a man that surrenders?
What's it gonna take for someone to defend us?
If we all agree that we're equal as people
Then why can't we see what is evil?
    I can't breathe
You're taking my life from me
    I can't breathe
    Will anyone fight for me?
    Oh, oh, oh
    Oh, oh, oh
    Oh, oh, oh
How do we cope when we don't love each other?
Where is the hope and the empathy?
How do we judge off the color?
The structure was made to make us the enemy
Prayin' for change 'cause the pain makes you tender
All of the names you refuse to remember
    Were somebody's brother or friend
Son to a mother that's crying, sayin'
    I can't breathe
You're taking my life from me
    I can' breathe
    Will anyone fight for me?
    Oh, oh, oh
    Oh, oh, oh
    Oh, oh, oh
    Will anyone fight for me?
    Oh, oh, oh
    Oh, oh, oh
    Oh, oh, oh (for me)
    Trying times all the time
Destruction of minds, bodies, and human rights
Stripped of bloodlines, whipped and confined
    This is the American pride
    It's justifying a genocide
    Romanticizing the theft and bloodshed
That made America the land of the free
To take a black life, land of the free
To bring a gun to a peaceful fight for civil rights
You are desensitized to pulling triggers on innocent lives
Because that's how we got here in the first place
These wounds sink deeper than the bullet
Your entitled hands could ever reach
Generations and generations of pain, fear, and anxiety
    Equality is walking without intuition
Saying the protector and the killer is wearing the same uniform
    The revolution is not televised
Media perception is forced down the throats of closed minds
So it's lies in the headlines
And generations of supremacy resulting in your ignorant, privileged eyes
We breathe the same and we bleed the same
But still, we don't see the same
    Be thankful we are God-fearing
Because we do not seek revenge
We seek justice, we are past fear
We are fed up eating your shit
Because you think your so-called "black friend"
Validates your wokeness and erases your racism
That kind of uncomfortable conversation is too hard
For your trust-fund pockets to swallow
To swallow the strange fruit hanging from my family tree
    Because of your audacity
To say all men are created equal in the eyes of God
But disparage a man based on the color of his skin
Do not say you do not see color
When you see us, see us
    We can't breathe
    Oh, oh, oh
    Oh, oh, oh
    Oh, oh, oh
    Oh, oh, oh
    Oh, oh, oh
    Oh, oh, oh

This comment section was so good before Grammys. Now it’s full with disappointed fans who are trying to insult this song just because the artist they like didn’t win. I mean I’m not saying that I don’t think making this song of the year wasn’t fully a political move. BUT, this song is amazing and many people loved it and were moved by it since it came out. Just because you didn’t know this song doesn’t mean no one knew. As a person who was really touched by this song back in summer and cried my eyes out, I’m really happy for H.E.R. Congrats on your masterpiece girl.

For all you folks saying this shouldn't be Song of the Year because YOU haven't heard it:
Officially, this is a **songwriter** award, meant to honor artistic achievement, technical proficiency, and overall excellence in the recording industry, without regard to album sales or chart position.
Radio play or even audience awareness are not part of the decision-making here; it's other artists in the field who decide the best songwriting of the year. For awards based on popularity or ubiquity, watch the Billboards or the AMAs. Or the People's Choice Awards. Will you be happier if BTS won the top prizes?

I'm very confused by what you meant by would we be happier if BTS won it
yes i would've been happier if BTS won the top prizes because they rightfully deserved them
Now this song deserved it as well and no BTS fan argued against it but don't fucking act like BTS weren't snubbed as well just because of their ethnicity and the stigma the academy has against boybands
Y'all preach about racism but when it comes to an Asian artist you're just like the white racists thinking western artists are more qualified and superior to Asians

    Nah
Starting a war, screaming, "Peace" at the same time
All the corruption, injustice, the same crimes
Always a problem if we do or don't fight
And we die, we don't have the same right
What is a gun to a man that surrenders?
What's it gonna take for someone to defend her?
If we all agree that we're equal as people
Then why can't we see what is evil?
    I can't breathe
You're taking my life from me
    I can't breathe
    Will anyone fight for me?
How do we cope when we don't love each other?
Where is the hope and the empathy? (Yeah)
How do we judge off the color?
The structure was made to make us the enemy (yeah)
Prayin' for change 'cause the pain makes you tender
All of the names you refuse to remember
    Was somebody's brother, friend
Or a son to a mother that's crying, singing
    I can't breathe
You're taking my life from me
    I can't breathe
Will anyone fight for me? (Yeah)
    Will anyone fight for me?
    Trying times all the time
Destruction of minds, bodies, and human rights
Stripped of bloodlines, whipped and confined
    This is the American pride
    It's justifying a genocide
    Romanticizing the theft and bloodshed
That made America the land of the free
To take a black life, land of the free
To bring a gun to a peaceful fight for civil rights
You are desensitized to pulling triggers on innocent lives
Because that's how we got here in the first place
These wounds sink deeper than the bullet
Your entitled hands could ever reach
Generations and generations of pain, fear, and anxiety
    Equality is walking without intuition
Saying the protector and the killer is wearing the same uniform
    The revolution is not televised
Media perception is forced down the throats of closed minds
So it's lies in the headlines
And generations of supremacy resulting in your ignorant, privileged eyes
We breathe the same and we bleed the same
But still, we don't see the same
    Be thankful we are God-fearing
Because we do not seek revenge
We seek justice, we are past fear
We are fed up eating your shit
Because you think your so-called "Black friend"
Validates your wokeness and erases your racism
    That kind of uncomfortable conversation
Is too hard for your trust-fund pockets to swallow
To swallow the strange fruit hanging from my family tree
    Because of your audacity
To say all men are created equal in the eyes of God
But disparage a man based on the color of his skin
Do not say you do not see color
When you see us, see us
    We can't breathe

This award isn’t about popularity its about the lyrics. Popularity is Record Of The Year. She worked for over a 11 years to be at this point in her career. H.E.R. definitely deserves it with no and’s, if’s, or but’s about it.
