Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the music for The Phantom Of The Opera back in 1986. Other notable work of ALW is Cats and Evita. The arrangement in Beste Zangers is the one that Tuomas did for when The Phantom was on Nightwish's playlist. I think that when Tarja left Nightwish Tuomas said something in the terms of "Good, now we never have to play that song ever again".

Beste Zangers (best singers) is Dutch tv show filmed on Ibeza ,top Dutch singers get together and sing each others songs back to the orig artist but reinterpreted or songs that have meaning to them but rearranged.Floor does Shallow for Emma Hesters,Vilja Lied for Henk,Winner for Tim Akkerman -(the only person there who knew who Floor was)and so on. great and unique format
This was a tuned down version of Nightwish's arrangement of the Phantom Of The Opera, but not technically Nightwish as you've realized. Nightwish DID cover the Phantom, way back when, in their 2005 End Of An Era show with Marko playing the Phantom and their original singer, Tarja, playing Christine th-cam.com/video/tL25rbnvM4o/w-d-xo.html . I recommend reacting to it as well as it's a heavy and epic version as well

This is Nightwish's arrangement and they have recorded and played "Phantom" also live. You are absolutely right. If you want to perform "Phantom" in public, you have to be a good singer. Floor's talents you already know, but Henk Poort is a very seasoned Dutch baritone who has played "Eric's" role in Phantom's Dutch production for hundreds of times. This duet is excellent. Great singing and acting from both of these vocal titans. Thank you!

As others have said, that was a D6. She has hit E6s and F6s live and according to the pitch analyzer on my phone, there's a brief Gb6 at the end of "Noise". It also records her singing clean down to an A2 and growling down to a C2.

Have you picked up on the harmonic overtones on the high note in Noise during the camera shot over Tuomas in the bathtub? At the end of the note the harmonic overtone goes up and her regular tone goes down simultaneously. I don't understand how she does this shit.

Floor grew up as a huge fan of Henk's..........he did the distortion just for her!!!!

Backstory on Phantom of the Opera. Nightwish first covered it in 2002, on their album "Century Child". It is this arrangement that the band here is playing. Nightwish also famously played it live at the "End of an Era" show in 2004, which was the final appearance of their original singer, Tarja Turunen, with the band. They play the same arrangement of the song there as well, albeit with a slower intro.
Back to Beste Zangers. First and foremost, this show IS NOT A COMPETITION. This show is about getting the most popular singers in the Netherlands together, get to know each other through their tastes, loves, and music. Each singer is spotlighted (sitting on the center couch), while the others sing songs that they wrote or has deep meaning to them. What caught everyone's eye about this season, was that Floor Jansen, as huge as she is around the world, was unknown in her home country. only one other singer knew of her in passing, and that was it. If you want to go down this route, which I think you should, find the episodes of this show or clips of this show on the channel of TH-cam user "jenniezelf". She has transcribed these to where they have English subtitles, that way you can see the conversations both before and after the performance.
Now, back to this performance. Henk Poort played the Phantom in the Dutch theater production of Phantom of the Opera. In fact, Andrew Lloyd Webber (who created the musical) stated that out of all of the people who played the Phantom, Henk was his favorite. He is operatically trained, as you can tell. Floor couldn't pass up the chance to sing this song with him, so she asked, and he agreed, on the condition that he could perform this with Nightwish when they tour the Netherlands. That show is still on their schedule for their next tour.

We copied Beste Zangers in Sweden so when this clip of Floor and Henk start showing up on TH-cam I instantly know what was going on. It is a very nice show concept and it is a nice feel good tv show.
I think you will also enjoy Epica with Sancta Terra live, featuring Floor, operatic vocals from simone and floor together with some insane metal, not to mension the whole orchestra and choir. In the same show Floor and Simone sang ‘stabat dolor matarosa’ (not sure I wrote that correctly but surely someone in the army will post a link for you...) a classical operatic piece that got the complete crowd of metalheads silent 🤗

Hendrikus (Henk) Poort (Amsterdam, January 20, 1956) is a professional Dutch opera and musical singer, as well as an actor. He does perform the regular ‘Phantom of the Opera’ version a hundredth times or more but never the metal version from Nightwish before Beste Zangers. This is the version Tarja and Marco did at ‘End of an Era’ concert with Nightwish. He is known to part of the audience as a musical actor and to other parts of the audience as an opera singer. Few artists make the transition from musical song to opera aria with such ease. It is not known to most of them that Henk Poort is not only a singer, but also an interesting storyteller. On this evening he sings part of his extensive repertoire (musical, operetta, opera and pop) but also plays the role of colorful persons from his past.
Floor is an opera soprano, she teaches opera and is a vocal coach.

The music was from the Marcel Fisher band and Henk was playing the rol of Eric in the Dutch phantom in 199?. Floor was a big fan of him, she ask him for this duet, he agreed only if he can sing it with her and Nightwish at the concer they planned in October in Amsterdam. This concert is now replaced, because of Covid to may next year.

Floor is a vocal coach and she has had classical training for a few years. She has great technique, can sing just about any style and has a vocal range of about 4 octaves versatile. What makes her stand out the most is that she's true to the music and not to herself. She doesn't mind doing backing vocals or taking on a lower vocal line than her natural soprano and I have yet to see her show off on purpose.

Henk Poort is a Dutch opera singer who also does musical theatre. He was the Phantom in the Dutch version and was one of Andrew Lloyd Webbers favourite Phantoms. Henk learnt how to add distortion to his voice especially for this show and for Floor, he said distortion was a no no for an Opera singer. He agreed to do this duet on condition that next time Nightwish came to the Netherlands he could do the Phantom with Floor on the show.
Henk has been the Phantom for over 500 performances in the Netherlands.

You have an opportunity here to compare Floor's performance with that of Tarja Turunen, Nightwish's original singer. In the "End Of An Era" video, Tarja performs this as a duet with Marko. Marko's vocals aren't nearly as controlled as Henk Poort's, but he's not an opera singer, so that's to be expected.

Nightwish do Phantom and, after this TV show Henk Poort joined them live in a couple of concerts to do it. Floor did have classical training and was a voice coach, but she was also in a metal band at 14.

Henk wanted to try something new as he was singing with Floor, so he had her teach him how to add that metal-style to his singing halfway.
This was a show about Dutch singers coming together and just singing songs for eachother and with eachother. Floor's Shallow from this show is awesome as well.
About Henk, he's the Dutch Phantom. He's almost 70 if I am correct and this was from the last episode were they did duets. Floor is a big fangirl of him so it was a dream come true for her to do this with him.

Henk is a Dutch opera & musical theater singer, actor, & apparently billiard table maker. He played Erik in the Netherlands for a decade so is very familiar with this song. Fun fact this is only the second time he has sung with distortion. The first time was when he covered Disturbed's version of The Sound of Silence on this show for Floor. The music was the shows house band they did an awesome job on the whole show.

It seems to not be mentioned as much, but Phantom of the Opera was actually a novel written by Gaston Leroux, back in 1909. It is based on some true and some legendary events from the Paris Opera, that occurred or were said to have occurred in the 19th century. It has been adapted many times and in fact there are one or two good movie versions of it. It returned to big time form when Andrew Lloyd Webber adapted it as a rock opera.
Also and Im just saying this because a lot of people seem to have become aware of opera and classic since this performance, which is good, Floor does not sing it Opera style, she sings it classical style (as opposed to rock, pop, musical etc). The term Opera does not denote a particular type of singing per se. Opera basically means a theater event where it is entirely musical and all "spoken parts" are sung, either as words to verse (think how rap music is) or as actual singing).
As others mention, Henk is legendary for his portrayal of the Phantom in the Dutch PotO. Also, Floor grew up as a Henk fanboy and being on the show with him is one of her chief motivations for doing it. The show is really good. Almost all the performances were. And Floor mesmerized them from the beginning. They had no idea what they were going to get hit with when she opened her mouth in the first episode to sing Villa Lied for Henk. You should at least react to every song Henk and Floor did on the show, plus look for TIm's Nemo cover. The Phantom of the Opera was the final performance of the show and the cast anticipated it all week once they knew what Floor could do. Henk's one condition...that he get to perform the song with Nightwish, whih Tuomas leapt at. Henk will be doing a couple of performances with Nightwish in Europe next year.

Floor was on the Rock Academy and has 1 year lessons as a soprano in the Netherlands.
That was a D6, held for 8! seconds in her headvoice and Floor wasn't even close to whistle register... B5 is what she can do, in a mixed belt.
Henk Poort played the phantom for many years and was ALW's favourite actor/singer in that role.
She had 2 years of Opera. She was a vocal coach before joining Nightwish. She calls herself a vocal technique nerd. Floor sings O Bambino Cara just by herself and Piano or as theclead singer of Revamp.
The original last note for Christine is in D6, Floor hit a D5 but clean as a whistle as always. The difference between Floor and all the other Phantom Christines is that Floor can also, crawl, add grit and gravel and sing songs like Romanticide and Yours is an empty Hope. "I read in a comment that she can sing a high B5" - she can do a G#5 in mix voice and ended this song on a D6 in headvoice. She can hit an F6, but that's about the limit for her and I don't think she can reliably do it with power, live.

Fwiw: Floor can hit an F6 for what I have heard. The original PotO (and the Nightwish version) has an E6 as the last high note, but the performers who did the E6 only lasted for 2 a 3 seconds. In this version Floor did go for a D6 for a freaking 8 seconds. There are only a few singers that can do that, but most of them sound thin and over pushed, but Floor's D6 was crystal clear and full of energy. Henk's voice is just mesmerizing. Deep and full, but clear at the same time. And like Floor, he is flexible too in music styles. On the same show he sang "Your Man" like a real country singer or "Sound of Silence" as close as the disturbed version as close as it can get. This duet is a gem though. Speechless...

I hope Nightwish plays this song with Floor sometimes in the future, but I've heard Henk wants to hop in so kinda uncertain how it's all going to play out. Marko could maybe even do gritty harmonies with him.

Floor hit the D6 here. The original is an E6. However I know Floor can hit the E6. I’m thinking they’ve drop key perhaps it was more comfortable for Henk. That’s my assumption. Or maybe she didn’t feel well enough to hit it, idk.
as far as I understand she used d6 because it sounds fuller.
and is consequently a style choice because both d6 and e6 can be sung in this key.

In the original stage production that last not is an Eb6, so half a step higher.
She hits a D6 here, but from most of the performances I've seen singers tend to go up an E6. Only a whole step down is still pretty damn impressive though

She sang a D6 instead of an E6, but big difference is that she had almost no vibrato, if any at all, which they use a lot in the musical singing style and unless I am mistaken, I think this makes it a lot more difficult. But I am no vocal expert, so maybe am wrong.

To hear a Symphonic Metal cover of Phantom of the opera do Nightwish - Phantom of the opera (live end of an era) Marko plays best pahantom ever In my opinion. Yet it's with the original Nightwish singer Tarja Turunen, she was powerful as well just not as versitile as Floor :)
D6 ,i believe the original was E flat or E. Which she can sing. I believe the metal arrangement had her end in the D.
