Picked up a free wire after watching your video. Works great, I cut a small hole in the right side wall of my left glove box and routed the 5 pin cable into the glove box. I have the Sena Free Wire in there plugged into the 12v power and 5pin DIN. The Sena works with the power switch off when plugged into 12v so it basically turns on and off with the bike, it’s maintenance free that way. I love it and I don’t have any wires hanging outside on the bike now.
And to think some bikers think putting the Freewire in the left glove box kills the Bluetooth signal? Also finding some bikers put the Freewire in the left rear box under rear speaker & run 12v power to it.
The Sena freewire with a 10R Dual kit also allows Bluetooth communications with your cellphone and simultaneous communication with your passenger as well as CB and audio and nav. Also to mention if you connect your freewire via the cigarette lighter included in the kit the freewire will always charge. You never have to charge it. It charge when the bike is turned on. The 10R on the helmet easily last as a full day of riding and can be charged just like your cell phone at night with the included micro USB cable. It will accept any charger except Apple. I have installed and used the system for, around 8K miles with extended trips and daily use without any issues. Total cost around $650. (Freewire and 10R Dual kit) Installation around 10 minutes plus a few hours for the helmet portion and your good to go.
Robert Primmer hi Robert. Not sure how to answer your question. I don't stream music from my phone. I use the audio from my Goldwing. That could be either the cd, a USB stick, SX, or radio. Whatever comes thru the stock 6 pin connector plays in my helmet. My phone has its own Bluetooth connection with the 10S and based on the built in hierarchy the phones has priority and interrupts the other services. The freewire does have an aux 3.5mm input which you can hook a phone or any MP3 player, etc. into which then will also play into your helmet. The freewire kit provides a cable for that hookup. IMO if your phone paired with the 10S and is in both the audio and media mode, than the phone should work for music as well. Depends on your phone.
Another note. The CB capability of the freewire has nothing to do with your phones music. The built in hierarchy will interrupt your music play no matter what the source when a CB request or a phone call or a nav instruction, intercom request etc. come in. I believe music is the lowest hierarchy level.
I watch all of your videos and really enjoy them. I was already going to get the Freewire when I saw your review. I bought a 2012 Wing two months ago and I have learned a lot from your videos.
After watching many video's and talking with you i do indeed feel that you are my boy Chris. keep them vids coming buddy love them as we grow to love you. peace.
Please check with SENA to see whether or not there is a way to prevent the freewire or gp10 from canceling out when trying to pair. Great vid, thanks CALLIENTE.
Great review!! If I'm not mistaken there is a workaround for the GP10 connection ... clear all pairings first... pair gp10 to free wire first it might take a few minutes until they pair... then pair your headset to free wire... I have the SR10 and it worked with that. I believe when u restart all devices you need to do it in the order you paired for everything to properly connect... it's been while since I have done this and I was working directly with a Sena tech to do it when the gp10 first came out. I will confirm in a day or two with Sena tech.
Chris, do you know of you can use this to connect to a GPS unit like the Zumo XT? I was planning on getting a Zumo XT, cardo packtalk and use my existing cell phone to connect all to the Zumo
one note I am a Harley rider the H D version ( of the Free wire)does every thing the Honda's version does only difference is and i think-you mentioned it the Honda is 5 pin the HD is 7 pin ( one reason I think they made the H D and Honda different colors
Hey Chris, I just bought a 2024 Honda Goldwing tour. Without me ripping the entire motorcycle apart, can you tell me where I can find the five pin den Cable
Chris Caliente heated gear is a revelation. I never considered it but got talked into it. The first time I used it with snow piled up on the sides of the road (dry pavement) and clear blue skies in sub freezing weather it was surreal. The view out my visor said I should be freezing but I was toasty warm. My brain couldn't reconcile the contradiction. That's why the satisfied sigh made me laugh...........I've been there.
Chris: I see in your newer videos you are capturing the audio from your CB, the Sena bike to bike communication while being wireless. Did Sena fix not being able to use the GP10 & Freewire together? Or are you using another method to capture all the audio wirelessly?
When using the Freewire, I always get an echo/sidetone of my own voice in my speakers. How do I stop that? I’m using it with a Sena 50s. It’s just a little delayed from my live voice, so can be quite irritating. Same thing is happening in my passenger helmet setup. I am using 2 freewires for rider and passenger.
It should be noted that if you don't use the CB radio, the SENA SM10 is the better option. It's cheaper and will dual stream Bluetooth to both rider and passenger, and you don't need two of them. But if you use the CB, the Freewire is definitely the one to have.
EXCELLENT VIDEO. I loved I because you were succinct. No fahtsking around. You were to the point. Thank you. I have one question: I have a 2007 GL1800, Sena Freewire and in my new Schuberth C4 Pro helmet, its built in communicator made by Sena. (My old helmet has the Sena 20). When connecting the helmet to the Freewire, I can hear the bike's audio and CB in my helmet. The telephone works perfectly through the helmet also. What doesn't work is my ability to transmit on the CB. If I press the PTT, I still cannot transmit. What should I do? Thanks very much.
Chris - Admire ALL your videos. The Car Charing adapter for the Freewire - does the Red LED suppose to light up when charging. The LED is red when using the USB in the house. On the Bike the light is NOT red when using the cigarettes adapter. If yes I think the car adapter could be bad then.
When charging from the cigarette adapter, the small LED light will not turn on, its only comes on when you are charging from the micro usb port (data cable). There is nothing wrong with your adapter.
Thinking either SENA is crazy or you and I are both wrong. Here is the helpdesk reply - Not quite sure how I like the word SUPPOSEDLY in their answer - it’s like they do not understand their own product. Hi, Thanks for contacting Sena Tech Support. Supposedly, once the freewire is connected to a charger, either of which charger should light red on the LED, if using the cigarette charger does not charge, you may try to check the connection. If the cigarette charger is the problem, we are able to replace it for you. Just let us know. Best Regards, Jake Sena Technologies
Great vid Chris. You make these projects so easy to understand. I am new to these com devices so I have a dumb question. Do you need the free wire to communicate with other riders and your passenger?
Chris great video on the sena freewire, I have a 2012 Goldwing and will soon be installing one on it. I had several qustions but you have answered them in you video. If you don't mind be asking where did you order yours from. I am here in Chatom, alabama about 70 miles north of Mobile ,Al.
Chris, Did you do anything extra to be able to talk on the CB? My freewire does everything except transit the CB. Everything does work but cannot talk on it
Say Chris, thanks for the up date on this Freewire system. But I still a little puzzled. I am still hard wired into my Goldwing. Now for me to break the cord and still talk to the wife/passenger, do I need to get 2 Sena and 2 Freewire? I thought the one Freewire unit would handle both of us and only need the 2 Sena. Having to buy 2 Sena and 2 Freewires sure making me think this over. Like you, I like playing on my CB radio and I plan on buying the new LED head lights for my bike.
Chris, How many devices can the 20S Bluetooth to at the same time? It would seem that if connected to the Freewire, communications between it and the 20S would allow you to hear from devices connected to the bike (Navigation, Radio, XM, CB) because they all come through that headset cable plugged into the 20S. But then what about the Phone? It's not part of the bike so the 20S would also need to connect to that, right? And then if your passenger has a 20S, they would either need a second Freewire to connect to or the driver's 20S would have to connect to their 20S and that's a 3rd Bluetooth connection? We have even gotten to the connections it would have to make to Bluetooth headsets of other riders in a group. Can it connect to all of that at the same time?
It seems the only way this works is through the headset. Is that true? Im looking to play music off of my phone to come through the speakers. I have a 02 Goldwing and a Galaxy phone with the C type connection. How can this work?
Thank you Chris. I just purchased this FreeWire yesterday for my 08 Goldwing from CycleGear in West Palm Beach, FL and cannot get my Iphone7 to pair with it. Do you know if you need the headset to pair as I did not purchase one yet. Enjoy your videos. Keep em coming and ride on!
You do not pair the freewire with a phone, you pair the freewire to your wireless headset like the sena 20s, and you also pair your phone to the sena 20s.
Hello Chris. Trying to find someone that can bright light to my question. 12' Wing.. Using Sena 20s evo and freewire.. When connected to my wife's sena intercom then turning the bikes audio on it does not allow us to communicate on the Sena intercom.. Do you have to use the intercom on the bike? Really struggling with Sena to answer this. Thanks
Good Morning everyone and Happy New Year! Mr. Chris, I am a fairly new Goldwing rider and I added the freewire but I am not hearing any sound from my CB through my headset; did you have to do any additional steps, besides plug and play to get your CB to work? Also, keep the videos coming, I truly enjoy watching them. Tj
It works, I was just expecting to hear the squelch sound and I did not. I went over my friends and tested it with his Wing and it worked. Thank you for your assistance. Tj
Nice video. Well done. One question I had was not answered. Can you plug the Freewire into a power source in the left glove box and forget it because it will automatically connect to my Sena 20? OR do I have to sync it every time I head out?
It did but it did lose sync a couple of times so I had to reconnect but I think this happened because I had the Freewire stuffed in my left front compartment. It's all still a work in progress for me.
If you have no need to connect the Freewire to the bikes audio system this will work fine otherwise you’ll need to connect it to the bikes 5 pin DIN cable which will hang out of the compartment.
I would like to know if, can you have one freewire for driver and two 20s and be able to talk to each other. Where I could have cb and all the others stuff but be able to talk to my passenger with out them having access to anything else.
Hey Chris, great video. I purchased the 20S and the Freewire. I installed it today and I could hear the XM playing through the 20S however, I could not hear the GPS nor could I get any conversation through the CB. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks
Sorry it's not a true camera mount, it's just mount that I modified in the workshop to hold my Gopro camera. I'm sure they make gopro mounts for handlebars that can be found online.
if the driver is connected through Freewire, and the passenger through a wire font of the motorcycle, then they can talk? Whether they will hear each other?
On a Goldwing, you need two Freewires, or two corded helmets. One is to be connected in the front, the second get's connected near the rear passenger seat handles.
OK! You didn't understand my question, forgive))) What will be if one is connected through FreeWire, and another ONLY through a regular font to the motorcycle?

First time to watch your video, OUTSTANDING JOB, clear concise and complete . . Thx
Got my Freewire a couple weeks ago and love it! Easy install, charge, and paired immediately to the 20S. Great videos Chris!

Great, keep me posted on how it works for you.
Thanks, I'm glad it worked out for you.
As always Chris nailed it again and now I'm wireless too!
Chris….as always expert installation. Nice clean job. Moreover you have your cameras to capture your ride activities.
Thank you Chris ! That answers my question about how to use the CB with Bluetooth.
Great review Chris, great explanation about the SM10 and Freewire - especially since I use the SMH10 BT headset
After watching many video's and talking with you i do indeed feel that you are my boy Chris. keep them vids coming buddy love them as we grow to love you. peace.
Thanks, I'm here for you brother.
Thanks. Chris for great Review . Sena make great gear . Hope you and your have great 🎄. Thanks again
Thanks, same to you Kim, ride safe.
Please check with SENA to see whether or not there is a way to prevent the freewire or gp10 from canceling out when trying to pair. Great vid, thanks CALLIENTE.
I believe it's because the freewire is paired in phone mode.

true, thanks.
Hey Chris, I just bought a 2024 Honda Goldwing tour. Without me ripping the entire motorcycle apart, can you tell me where I can find the five pin den Cable
Well done as always. The last bit with the heated gear and the satisfied sigh had me laughing.
It was very toasty with my Hot Wire, lol.

My freewire came from Sena, but you can also buy them at Cyclegear, Ebay, or Amazon.
Do you want to Pair you iphone to the Freewire or the bike's boom radio? Or both?
Everything Chris said about the gold wing version model of the Free Wire is just as true for the Harley version
I'm just keeping it real, thanks.
Chris, Did you do anything extra to be able to talk on the CB? My freewire does everything except transit the CB. Everything does work but cannot talk on it

Hopefully you have a Sena 20s, did you pair the Freewire to the Sena 20s?
Chris Caliente Yes Sir, I do have the 20S, I had the Sena SMH10 and upgraded to the 20S when I ordered the Freewire.
Does the CB radio works fine with your regular corded helmet?
It works, I was just expecting to hear the squelch sound and I did not. I went over my friends and tested it with his Wing and it worked. Thank you for your assistance.

Will the sena freewire work with the packtalk bold?
Has anyone noticed a delay in CB TX or RX using the FreeWire?
Will this work with a radar detector? While Bluetooth to an iPhone to Sena 20s
Have you tried the freewire with the 30K yet
I would like to know if, can you have one freewire for driver and two 20s and be able to talk to each other. Where I could have cb and all the others stuff but be able to talk to my passenger with out them having access to anything else.
New to the Sena product .. glad i watched this vid .. I would have gotten the wrong unit for my GW .. thanks :)
awesome vid as usual chris.
Hey Chris, great video. I purchased the 20S and the Freewire. I installed it today and I could hear the XM playing through the 20S however, I could not hear the GPS nor could I get any conversation through the CB. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks
Here is the Sena 20s manual link. www.sena.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/UsersGuide_Sena_20S_v1.3_en_20141121.pdf
Can I use the corded headset with the Siena free wire system
Have you tried the Freewire with a 30K instead of the 20S?
Thanks for the Video, you are THE gadget guru!
Chris, good evening. Where did you get that mount for your Gopro camera mounted on your left handlebar?
Sorry it's not a true camera mount, it's just mount that I modified in the workshop to hold my Gopro camera. I'm sure they make gopro mounts for handlebars that can be found online.
Thank you! Thank you for all the information you share with us. I'm sure everyone appreciate your service.
Thanks Peterson for the kind words.

Does the Freewire Bluetooth link work with the Cardo Packtalk and connect through the self-mending network???
Sorry Richard , I must say that I don't work for Sena, but that's a good question for Sena tech support , I have no idea.
In case others have the same question.. I did some checking and the Freewire works only with the Sena 20S system.
Great review. Thanks for sharing Chris.
Your welcome, I'm glad that you enjoyed it.
Thanks for the review! I'm trying to set up Bluetooth from scratch on my new 2006 ABS Goldwing. If I buy a freeware can I buy 2 10s's for me and my rider? Will that work or does my rider need a freewire? Thanks so much!!!
For what your doing you will need two Freewires, and two 10s headsets.
So each freewire needs a headset?
correct.
If Freewire is included in 5(7) pin DIN connector, still it is required to engage it in the lighter?
The 5 pin Din cable is for audio, the cigarette charger is for charging the Unit.
it means that for constant connection to the Freewire motorcycle it is always necessary to connect to two wires - one 5 pin + the cigarette?
Yes, if you plan to charge while mounted on the handlebars.
Does anyone know if the Cardo headset will connect to the sena freewire?
just got a freeware 20s and have a head set 10s ever thing fine but the CB won't talk to other CB's have I done something wrong this is a goldwing set
Try to use just the freewire with the 20s to see if everything works properly.
Thanks Chris! Has anybody used the Freewire with a Sena 10C? Any issues?
Not that I am aware of, but I thinks that the 10 is on the Freewire's compatibility list.
will the freewire work in a dash storage compartment on the goldwing or must it be outside
It's bluetooth technology, It will work in the Glovebox.
Excellent video. Very informative and accurate
Very impressive - Thank you for sharing. Brad
Excellent info Chris
Thanks glad u like.
Thank you…very helpful….
Good Review. Thanks Bro. !
Anytime.
Nicely done thank you...
Thanks for the compliments.
Hi, Chris. I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Last week I sent you an email re making a GL1800 Bluetooth-capable. When you have a moment, could you please read & reply. Thanks.
Thanks Forrest I will check it, but you can resend it just to be sure, thanks.
I personally think just use the Bluetooth system. I dont listen to the radio. it does what i want, picks up calls and listen to Pandora.
The freewire does bluetooth the Goldwing
Chris Caliente , the radio station here ten to lose reception once we hit the heavily wooded area.
+ like
Thanks.
im the first viewer
Yep, the first.
