- In this episode, I give a tour of our perennial full sun garden in late July. I'll show our best plants for peak bloom and long lasting color with the plant names on the screen. Not your average tour... wait until you see what happens that makes me laugh... You can't make this up! Just a day in our ordinary life. Plus, a tip on how I manage deer in my yard (we have tons!). Love your garden. Do you have snakes ever in your yard? I like to space my plants closer but have to worry about this unwelcome creatures could be hiding underneath 😇
You might want to plant Four O'clock plants next year. The Japanese beetle will nibble on it and die. Use the four 'O'clock aka marvel of Peru as a sacrificial plant.

@@GuidingGreenThumbs That's understandable. I definitely have! Second year with four O'clock. The first year I thought it was odd that I saw a few to none japanese beetles. Same this year. I saw maybe 6 or so then none. Haven't seen any since spring and even then it was only around 6 or 7 beetles. Plus the Hawk Moths love them.
You two could have a successful HGTV show just showing and teaching about flowers and plants with the humor you infuse in every episode. Your TH-cam is already better than most of the shows on there.

I have ordered from everywhere, mail order, local nurseries, facebook groups... you name it! :-)
You are absolutely hilarious with your “ pugster poo” ! Should have a comedy show! We need you to have a weekly Q& A video …. need to know your gardening secrets… what you do to get these plants to look so fabulous! What soil conditioner, compost , fertilizer, deer/rabbit deterrents, etc. Keep up the great gardening!

Such a beautiful garden! Do you have bird baths or fountains in other parts of your yard? You will really see the birds in the winter if you put a heater in a bird bath.
I do not have a heated birdbath but I do put feeders out all winter after the bears hibernate ❤️

FACTS!!! My hubby thought I was feeding him a bunch of sh.. when I told him I was buying more plants for my flower bed by my fence. He admitted there was virtually no weeds this year due to it!
It really works! That sun garden of mine is huge and the least of my weedy concerns!
Beautiful. Do you hand water or have drip set up? So many different plants. You really do amazing job.
I only water when we have extended droughts. It’s good to let the plants stress a little because it forces the roots to dig further into the deep ground. I have to water by hand so I get to be selective. Usually new plantings, the veggie garden and planters get priority 🙁

its hard to watch .. I dunno, I'm here for a tour not for a chat or family banter, so may be you guys can show garden toor nice and speedy and then at the end of your video put all your banter, bloopers and so on for entertainment . .. honestly 20 min in and she is still in one spot , but I saw dogs poop like 5 times, hm.... your flower bed is beautiful and it deserves proper show off
I agree, this video could have been split into 4 or 5 different videos- dealing with deer, dividing plants, saving seeds, dog antics, planning for next year, design tips, etc. Too much rambling, I found myself fast forwarding a lot. I’m new here, so I’ll continue to check out a few other videos, but I’m unlikely to subscribe if they are all like this one. Just a little constructive criticism, your garden is nevertheless lovely and it seems like you have a lot of knowledge to share. You clearly have a love of gardening!
Your garden looks beautiful as usual. I do the same thing, I don't cut my flowers from the garden for a vase. I take my morning walks with coffee in hand and enjoy the flowers that are blooming. Thanks for the tour!

Your garden is beautiful! I can imagine how hard you worked to make these. Would you tell me what is the zone number for your garden? I have tried most type of your flowers in my garden for many years, but they don't grow that well, or never come back next year😓.

You really have given me a lot of inspiration for my “new to me” garden. Moved into a new home (to me) and I’m redoing the flowerbeds. Your gardens are BEAUTIFUL! Just a fYi there is a hummingbird feeder that you put banana peels in,hang it, the container has holes in it so the hummers poke they’re beaks/tongues in and eat the fruit fly(protein) that come to eat the banana peel. I thought that was cool. Thank you sharing your knowledge and gardens.

Love this!! Such an informative video. I also feel better about my daylilies not blooming this year. This is a new house so new garden beds. Planted about 10 and only the Stella Bella bloomed with one lone flower. More to look forward to next year!
Where do you get your metal yard ornaments., I ordered some and I got cheated and they were supposed to be 5 feet tall and they were only 12 inches tall. and made of plastic instead of metal.
That stinks! I’ve received the plastic instead of metal supports, so frustrating. We have a local shop that has supports and decor, it’s hit or miiss but when I see something I like I try to grab them.

Somehow I ended up with a beauty berry in my garden and I didn’t plant it, it’s small right now and it’s not in a great location so after it blooms and gets berries I’ll transplant it, but I’m excited to have it. Question I need to split my coneflowers up. When is the best time to do that?
You can divide in the fall after the blooms are faded, not sure what zone you’re in but generally about 2 months before average first frost… this gives the roots time to dig in before winter. You can also divide in the spring when they are about 4-5” tall. They are pretty easy to separate either way. 😊 That’s great about the beauty berry! Maybe seeds found its way to your yard! You started to name the dark foliage double pink flower before the “pug cage match”/street brawwwwwwwlllll. 😆 What is the name, please? Also, what is the spikes plant next to autumn charm that looks like a red hot poker? And the two very small “yarrow type foliage” plants in front of sedum & Sangria echinacea? Thank you very much.

Awww’ we’re pretty much done here as well… some late stragglers here and there but our season has reached its peak! I’m not ready for the ‘brrr (-ber) months! 😂
Do you have any online store suggestions for buying bulk coneflowers?
Good question! I have only ever purchased coneflower online once and that was from eBay which I don’t recommend haha. Maybe 9 years ago! Most I have purchased locally or grown from seed because they bloom first year from seed. Are you looking for a specific variety or different ones?

Why is it that every time I watch your videos, I feel that I need to go to the garden center! Lol! I need to go get some coneflowers, but the bunnies keep eating them! The liquid fence is not helping with the bunnies!!
Oh man! Sorry about the bunnies! And the increased plant desires haha… I haven’t had a problem with the bunnies- I wish I had more ideas and tips to help you with them!

I always love your summer sun garden. Orange looks good on you in the top and in the garden. You coordinated well. I also don’t like how the butterfly Bush blooms doesn’t last. I’m so sorry I bought 5 butterfly bushes this year. I will need to get a replacement for them.

Absolutely love your garden. Do you fertilize this entire bed? If so, what do you use?
Oh yes! With the way I cram in the flowers, fertilizing is a must! I use plant tone granular I’m the early spring before mulching, then Neptune’s harvest fish and seaweed blend when the blooms are being created on specific plants. I’ve done it this way for almost a decade!

I have found these at local nurseries. I don’t have an online source that I know of that’s reliable but check out your local nurseries and ask for them specifically. A lot of times if they don’t have it, they can get it.
Now I know why you don’t have a deer Problem: 4 dogs!

Where are you located? Generally fall is a good time to transplant those (or early spring before they wake up if your soil allows). 😊

I’m redoing my garden ,so much work ahead and I would love to achieve your look bit in Florida we can’t go hydrangeas and other plant you can grow in your zone so that’s a bummer because they are such a gorgeous showcase but I’m doing the best I can !!
I’m planting roses that I also love ,hibiscus,salvia. Plumbago white and blue ,sedum lemon coral ,hora that was just available here this year that I absolutely love ,lantana ,pentas,Russian sage ,canna lilies ,iris ,elephant ears ,different grasses,the list goes on ,so many different varieties of plants and I’m absolutely loving it !!
Spending thousands but this was allways my dream to redo my garden on a 2 acres of land the way I allways wanted and love !!I also attached over 200 orchids on my palm trees and I absolutely love when a lot of them are blooming!!A lot of upkeeping ,I also work a lot and I’m single for many years now but I absolutely love it ig makes me do happy !!I love love your knowledge and enthusiasm!!😀

I love my orchids just in my driveway a as lo s on both sides I have 118,it’s very easy to attach them to the trees ,I use twine to tie them to the trees and in a matter of mos they will eventually attach themselves to the trees by the roots !!I literally if it doesn’t rain water them constantly and fertilize them weekly !!W the heat we ve had,they really need a lot of care bug I love it !!I absolutely love your channel!!Your garden is my dream garden!!😀

Where do you find all those varieties? I live in Florida and can’t find any of those it’s so frustrating 😑
Of coneflowers or perennials in general? I’m always looking at different nurseries at different times of the year…its fun hunting for things 😉
@@GuidingGreenThumbs all the newer varieties from proven winners that I see. You have a lot of coneflowers that I would love to find. Home Depot or Lowe’s seem to carry all the boring varieties. I guess I’ll have to find some nursery’s to shop at. I used to work at Ace Hardware in Michigan and was in charge of ordering and taking care of the plants and the Hallmark store with all the garden pretty’s so I guess I’m spoiled. I left beautiful big gardens there and starting over here in Florida because I can garden all year but I’m having my struggles adjusting to high temps and what to plant where. As us gardeners always say “it’s always in progress “ love your videos! I can’t help but be curious about your hubby. Something about his voice a d I can’t put my finger on it but he sounds like some movie star just can’t figure it out so crazy!😂😂

I bought Festivus off the lily auction website. You can get lots of unusual and older varieties no longer in retail. 😊 Goole “The Lily Action”. The website is the same name.
I agree. I pick Japanese Beetles off my flowers and vegetables but can't in good conscience spray for Japanese Beetles or any insect for that matter.
It all works in harmony, except for Japanese Beetles, they are here by accident and don't belong here with our natural insects.
Yes! And there are so many I would never get rid of them as hard as I try! I’m bug friendly (good or bad) but those beetles get the best of me and my plants!

Do you order your cone flowers or buy at a nursery?
I buy at local nurseries mostly or purchase seeds and grow them myself. If I start seeds indoors in February, they bloom first year with the rest of my coneflowers. 🙂

I wish I had one! I Hand pick my beetles. I know it’s crazy but it does help. Also I’ve heard that planting 4 o’clocks kills them because they are attracted to them and it’s toxic to them. 😊
