The only clear connection to Cruyff that I see is that they're both skilled Dutch players who have played at Ajax. Sure, they share a lot of the same skills, but Cruyff had such a massive influence on the European game that a lot of players share his same skills. The two play different roles in different areas of the pitch. A more accurate comparison might be Pirlo or Koeman (although I think De Ligt has played more like Koeman this last season). In any case, De Jong is talented and once he adjusts to the level at Barca I think he'll do well there. I'd like to see Ajax hold onto players like him, De Ligt, and Onana in order to start challenging in Europe more seriously and more consistently.
