Congrats on the lift it makes life so much easier.... Next time you plan on digging up the yard for whatever reason you should call Callbeforeyoudig or something similar in your area and they will come out and check your property along the proposed dig area and mark out any buried utilities for you for Free. Also before you cut into that Truss you should have an engineer look at it and draw up what needs to be reinforced and how to do it to avoid a possible collapse of the truss and roof, trusses can take some modification but if you cut the wrong piece of wood you are asking for trouble and that bottom chord of the truss is one of them. Keep up the great channel looking forward to more videos from you and the wife.

Very nice vid Ben and Cas. Congrats with the lift, I love it, however . . .
Although it's already installed, you should really consider a base plate, H beams or dedicated concrete piers underneath the lift poles for 3 reasons.
    You don't know the
concrete reinforcement directions, density and number of bars or netting. This is really important to know because we are talking about forces to reckon with.
Don't rely on the construction drawings for this.
As a designer I know that these drawings are seldom followed, people often start off professionally but along the way they often start to cut corners due to time- and money issues. Especially when the house is finished and there's less money left then anticipated to build that shed or barn (I've seen this happen many times)
Always assume that the previous owners cut corners and/or were your typical "do it yourselvers". You can see this by the way they route the electric cables and water line without a protective casing/pipe. This tells me that it's not an unnecessary luxury to keep a sharp eye.
Regarding the foor, the drawing maybe shows 6 inches or even 10 inches of thickness while in reality, it's only 4 inches thick (to save money and/or time) Looking at the cracks in the floor, I don't know about the thickness, but I wonder what reinforcement they used and how stable the ground is underneath the concrete slab. A floor shouldn't crack like that unless the reinforcement is rusted or the floor was still wet when it started to freeze or there's not sufficient reinforcement in it. As long as you use it as a garage or equipment storage, it's fine. But when you are planning on really stressing the floor, these things become essential.
In almost every case concrete won't fail when there's no weight on the lift, it always goes when your car/jeep is on it because it's not only the weight pushing down on the columns that can cause the concrete to break, the biggest danger is the weight distribution when your car/jeep is up high. When the weight of your jeep is not evenly spread from the middle of the columns backwards and forwards, the lift will have the tendency to tip over or fall backwards. We always like to eyeball the lifting points so they are evenly spread, but these positions seldom represent the exact place where the weight is divided evenly.
You don't notice this "tilt force" (hope this is the correct word) because concrete doesn't give you a waring". It's this tilting force that could get you in danger. When you look at the Gladiator, it will be heavy in the front and light in the back. You can image how those tipping forces will multiply with every inch you raise that vehicle. therefore I would recommend dedicated concrete piers or large thick base plates that can spread the weight evenly over a big surface because the danger it's not only much the forse of weight pushing down on the concrete, it's the tilt force that can rip the concrete. I hope you appreciate my concern, I just don't want to see two young parents to get hurt ;-)
English is not my native language so I hope my post is clear enough for you to understand what I mean. Keep the video's coming my friends, love them.
