Jeff Andrews - monumentally under appreciated and nowhere near as widely known or recognised as he should have been. A sad loss now he is no longer with us. As someone said earlier, taken well before his time. RIP
Saw this same band two years earlier in Kalott Jazz, Tornio, Finland. Was mindblowing... I remember Weckl's drums were late due to being left in the previous place which was Norway or Denmark but his kit finally arrived, like 4 hours late and they put it together in front of tent full of people. Then they played for 2½ hours.
This Mike Stern trio , is amazing, always loved Mike’s sound and virtuosity , reverb sound , Boss, no distortion. Super fast, melodic. Mr. Wreckl’s drumming , from Chick Corea, Pat Metheny , such fine Bass, ❤Peace and Rest.

I haven't seen Jeff Andrews for a long time. And, I am a big Dave Weckl fan. I think I'm going to enjoy this very much. Holy crap, I just found out that Jeff Andrews passed away recently. Not even 60 years old. Very sad. Many people are gone way before their time.
Wow! This was a concert performed in 1996, 25 years ago and I am completely in awe of these 3 guys. God truly blessed each one of them with extraordinary talent! I am saddened that Jeff Andrews has passed on may he rest in peace.
Reminds me of the joke by Rodney Dangerfield in Easy Money..He asks his grandaughter what she's playing on the violin. "Scales", she replies. "Never heard of him", retorts Rodney.
I've been there, seated on the bass player's side of the audience - like i always do. I didn't pay much attention on Jeff Andrews at this point but I was very impressed, wondering what he was doing all the time.
Funny how Mike carved out his own take on fusion. Totally original, unique, and intense. I can identify him in 3 notes or less. His sound is so his own. He did “ One Liners “ on his own without Bob Berg, and it worked out fine. More than fine.
I've never seen footage of Mike Stern in a trio format before. I must say he along with Jeff Andrews and Dave Weckl, are on fire!! I'm thoroughly enjoying this concert and appreciate the post.
I'v seen this trio playing in my hometown , Pescara, probably exactly on 1996. I was kind of a bit stoned, enjoying with friends before the show..., and these guy finished to blow me completely away from this world ...
Really one of my favorite concert ever. Mike, Jeff and Dave, a legend trio approaching their very best technically and so, great compositions either. I want to say to the extragalaxial guys, if they want to visit and eat us, that it is called human Music. RIP see you soon Jeff.
Back when Dave had that gorgeous green Yamaha set. He was my favorite before then and still is. I was lucky enough to catch his clinic in Denver in 95 and 96. Such a rare thing nowadays unfortunately.
Some where birds are nesting, lions are laying around under a shaded tree, wolves are howling at the moon 🌙, big business men are scheming while chewing on their expensive cigars, butterflies are dreaming about can they get more time out of their short lives and musician are chilling 😎 out in their head about what it would be like playing with Stern , Andrew, and Weckle. Okay Man quite tripping.
I saw the trio in Milan, Italy, maybe in 95, on the occasion of the tour organized by Yamaha, when Stern had just received his Signature Guitar ..... they were devastating ...
Love Mike, meet him, nice guy who plays like beyond reality. But, when I see great jazz guys like him or Miles, I can't keep my eyes and ears off of the bass player. They are the foundation of Jazz.
Mike does a fantastic job there as a wingman, accompanying and interacting with the soloist and making him shine. Something all improvisers should copy. At 6:50 for example. It is awesome!
Such a great band. Saw them this lineup also with Ben Perowsky on drums. Equally fantastic. Mike usually plays with a horn player but love it when he just fronts a trio as well.
with jeff andrews and dave (around between the lines) ... that was the best line-up ... with the greatest taste for the feeling (mixture of rock, fusion, blues, jazz)
Mike Stern and Jaco Pastorius had a bond, and I sincerely believe that Jeff Andrews fills that space in Mikes heart. If there were no video of this set and someone told you it was Jaco on bass, would you doubt them?
This is superb music, 3 masters in their instruments. Started following Stern when he appeared in the MIles Davis group. Miles has a magic finger for choosing his musicians, and they all came out recycled and playing at even higher levels. Mike is one of them.
had the honor to see mike live a couple weeks ago. he smiles a lot more when he plays nowadays
Cool! I'm going to see him on may fourth in Stockholm, Sweden.
i didn't notice his smile or not but I enjoy so much the music😜

Fame it's not important .
You know it
@@nady9164 exactly, we can only learn from his humbleness, never cared about who he was but only to serve music.
Oh, say it ain't so.

As a Bassist..Your OWN Style is the WAY``!! RIP, Jeff, and THNX!!
Saw Mike with Andrews many times. What a player, great guy as well.

For Dave Weckl’s Incredible Drumming Genius, there ARE NO WORDS, and he gets Better and BETTER Every Year.
he really has . its quite scary. he was an absolute beast 30 years ago. he is still growing and improving
I've lost track of how many times I've listened to this. Jeff Andrews is impeccable
Who's not here... 😃
me too..

@@miles-178 Jeff Andrews is one of the most innovative players to impact jazz bass since Jaco.A true genius and rare melodic quality to his playing.

Damn Jeff Andrews was a great soloist. Incredible phrasing and clean as sh-t. I love seeing this guy in his element with Mike. Thanks for posting.
Guy didn't get the recognition he deserved. I think he did have personal issues, but nonetheless
Could not have said it better myself!!

I’d say vintage Stern but that’s only one third of the vintage.
Killin it !!! Damn!
Best I have heard Mike Stern play. By far better than any studio recording and so nice without annoying sax player.
Hey Oliver, Bob Berg or the real Kenny G, or whoever you might be talking bout weren’t all that bad!
Annoying sax players....😂
A great guitar trio reminds me of the Trio Of Doom... McLaughlyn, Tony Williams and Pastorious
Truly an enjoyable concert - first class musicians and musicality.
indeed
I saw them in Paris, same tour. Aliens, no less. Jeff was from outer space, obscenely underrated, may he rest in power.
Rest in peace Jeff. The world will miss you.
Jeff ia one of my favorites.....Great tone & feel. One of mike's best Bands. ( Like he ever had a bad one )
man, you know the name first song?
@@RorroBass Hey, the name of the tune is One Liners and it's from the record Give and Take.

Jaw dropping and
life changing.
80s and 90s was Mike's absolute peak... insanely great
I really like the trio, not a fan of saxophones

The trio from Jazz Heaven!!!Wow!All were cooking!!Mikes solos were over the top in improvisation!!His guitar work is astounding indeed!!
So dam good it's insane. The more you learn, the better it gets. Wow
Two people gave a thumbs down.....how can anyone NOT like this???
Nicky FUCKING Minaj fans obviously !!! 2 losers caught on a wrong page ! ... ?
Its the people who cant hear dave shredding in the background under the guitar lol
Put my name down. Tuneless monotonous, too repetitive, one sound. Give Frank Gambale foe example, any day.

When I listen to Mike Stern or Scott Henderson I can hear in diferent way the limit between Jazz and Rock.
It should be Fusion!
It's not only Rock...
"I'd call it fusion, baby. A fusion of jazz and rock, funk and soul."... "...electric jazz rock." (John Scofield)
