@@humanoidfrog4645 the combustion bending is what he wasn't able to hold against. Against just the three up close, he likely had a rather decent chance, as their first blows on him were by surprise. After all, he was effortlessly handling Zaheer.
This episode is so epic. And we finally get to see the difference between an Airbender prodigy, and an Actual Airbender Master. Can we just appreciate the absolute GOAT Tenzin is when the chips are down. That man made a choice. And he stood by it. GOAT.
10:16 this is the moment. The Moment. that he's thought about for decades, ever since aang took him to the temples sat him down and explained what genocide means. what would i do, what lines would i cross, what horrors would i wreak to save my people? because the people sitting behind him are not just his family, they are the last airbenders in existence. tenzin has devoted his life to rebuilding his nation and he'd die for it, but much more importantly he'd kill for it. he's an airbender, a pacifist, but he would do it. that's the katara in him, the part of him that would kill for his children and his People.
@@controlman7490 from what we know, not many of them would have even fought. Gyatso, being willing to bend tradition in favor of the heart, is one of the only exceptions we know of, considering the countless firebender skeletons adorning the chamber he fell in.
@SalSaDocs I don't believe that. The Air Nomads didn't believe in just sitting back and doing nothing. They may be against killing, but that will change when a group of people pull up to your home and start burning your people. And we don't objectively know if Gyatso killed all those fire benders. It's a probability, but still a theory.
“As long as I’m still breathing, it’s not over.” (paraphrasing, I cant remember the exact wording off the top of my head). I BAWLED my eyes out. That line struck me in so many ways 😭
Fun Fact, Zaheer never actually landed one proper hit on Tenzin until all four of them jumped him. Tenzin kept blocking and deflecting every attack while Tenzin himself was tripping up Zaheer and pushing him to his limit. I also like how he did Aang’s move in the intro since obviously Aang would have taught him to do that, it’s a neat touch.
Zaheer's martial arts style is heavily influenced by a lethal interpretation of air bending moves, making him difficult to defeat. Despite Zaheer's natural talent, Tenzin's skill as a true Airbending Master was evident as he repeatedly knocked Zaheer to the ground during their battle. In fact, Zaheer was only able to land a blow on Tenzin when P'Li was using combustion bending to distract him. Tenzin even held his own against three out of four members of the Red Lotus and could have escaped if not for P'Li's interference.
Tenzin vs the Red Lotus is definitely my favourite TLoK fight and might be my third favourite fight in the whole Avatar-verse, after the last Agni Kai and the Gaang storming the Earth King's palace in Book Two of ATLA. My second favourite TLoK fight is in Book Four.

Zaheer only looked powerful because after 180 years nobody remembered how to fight Airbenders. When put up against a true master we see Zaheer was still a novice.
decades of experience in an incredibly niche bending that only 2 people could perform in the past 100 years, meaning nobody really has experience training against it either. zaheer led the red lotus as a non-bender, so he was already kickass against fire/earth/water and his bending only enhanced that. dude's never had to face a legit airbender before, much less one that spent his whole time training with/against aang.
Tenzin is living proof of why you should never piss of an airbender, a master albeit. Since combat often goes against their philosophy, they only engage in it as a last resort, and when his family's threatened he'll go off, bro was able to hold off the entire red lotus for a short amount of time, I feel like if P'li wasn't sniping him every 2 seconds he might've been able to fight Zaheer and at least another Red Lotus member
@@G128_cz I think Tenzin would definitely kill Zaheer if he killed his wife and kids. When some boundaries are crossed even the most peaceful person can turn into a savage.
