- I finally caught the Venture Car test Train! These new Siemens built, passenger cars look so so nice. I can not wait to ride! On this day, AMTRAK 865 did a little work at the BN yard here in Fresno.(video of that to come later) After finishing their work, I launched my drone near the Sunmaid Diamond, and caught AMTRAK 865 as they departed the BN Fresno Yard off the Pike lead.

Look like extruded aluminum passenger cars. Very nice looking passenger consist.
The new trains sets are slowly being rolled out, meant to phase out aging rolling stock. Older cars will be used as back up service, if the new ones are down for maintenance. The new cars are very sleek looking, I am hoping to ride them sometime this month.

Great catch, I was in Modesto area earlier today on my way home from basketball game and had my portable with me and I heard the Union Pacific dispatcher make reference to Amtrak 864, it looks like it’s coming back your way towards Fresno. I’m not sure how far it’s going tonight but that’s what it appears. Just a heads up.
Hi, Yea thanks for the heads up. I heard about it coming early tomorrow morning passing Fresno. I don't think I will be awake when it passes. I heard they might go in to revenue service soon, I can't wait to ride.
Do they not have cab/control cars? Somewhere I was told that they do like the future Airo cars

I could see the California HSR trains using this same paint scheme. Just replace the words 'Amtrak San Joaquins' with 'California High Speed Rail'.
The train procurement process has begun, with CAHSR to choose a train manufacturer in 2024. Siemens would love to be that, and given their new Velaro Novo high speed train meets all of CAHSR's requirements, namely top speed, not to mention they already have a well-established US presence, I'd say there's a very good chance they will be. CAHSR anticipates the first two trains to be delivered in 2027 to begin testing in 2028, followed by the remaining four by 2030 to begin service.
Hi, I agree Siemens does seem to a contender for the contract, they have a huge factory here in California, and I suspect california will want to use California workers to build the trains.
@@timeforbeans that factory isn’t currently set up to build high speed trains though, right? If that’s the case, I’m sure Siemens would be quick to modify/expand it so it could.
CAHSR’s first two trains can be made abroad, so should Siemens or any other manufacturer be chosen, they can get the first two made elsewhere and delivered while establishing a high speed train factory here to build the remaining sets.
Brightline West seems pretty certain they’ll have all the trains they need to begin service in 2028. It’ll be interesting to see who they end up going with, and if it’ll be the same as CAHSR (I’d imagine yes given they and CAHSR both want interoperability between their systems).
