      I feel like the fall of the WG is going to be met with a question of which type of freedom you want, and when Imu, Akainu, the Admirals, and the WG are defeated, Blackbeard and Luffy will be left to face off to decide which freedom is the best. Imu potentially has a Zoan DF that so many have been predicting Blackbeard is going to steal.

    I've said it before and I'll say it again. The fact that One Piece has 3 potential final villains in Blackbeard, Akainu, and Im is insane, especially when you consider most shonen battle series struggle to even come up with a single character to fill that slot.

    In case you guys didn't know, Imu as written in Japanese (katakana) is イム. Put together in a single kanji, it becomes the character for "Buddha". However, it's obvious that Imu is a blatant corruption of the concept of the Buddha, as someone who rules the world from the shadows and with ironclad control and probably has a belief that they are "one with everything", but not in the way a real Buddha would be.
    Luffy has many different inspirations behind his design, but one that has always been very obvious is the Monkey King from Journey to the West, from his surname to his personality and love of fighting. One of the greatest opponents the Monkey King had to fight in the early chapters of JTTW was the Buddha himself, who appeared in the midst of the war he was waging against the entirety of (Taoist) Heaven. Obviously, One Piece is just loosely inspired by the original novel, so what happened in the end of JTTW won't be the end of OP, but it's clear Oda was making some symbolic or thematic reference to Luffy and Imu's inevitable confrontation.
    On that note, it would be neat if it's shown at any point that Imu has the power to imprison people for "eternity" in some way like how the Buddha imprisoned Sun Wukong under a mountain with a magic seal that prevented him from busting out. It could even be a power similar to Sugar's in that people will end up forgetting about that imprisoned person. Would play well with the idea of "erasing someone from history".

      @@ultimatedumbass4640 I dunno, it was just an idea that came to mind. Wukong was trapped under that mountain for 500 years, but I don't think Oda would copy that for Imu's power, though that would also work to "erase" someone from history.
      I just realized it would be a funny parallel to Satan if that's what happened with Rocks, though.

    Just to add to this point, all the major villains in the new world have been “godly” in some way. Doflamingo is obvious, but Big Mom is explicitly referred to as a god of destruction by a giant, rules like a god by distributing souls and spying on everything with her homies, and her strongest weapons are literally named Zeus, Prometheus, and Hera. Then Kaido, as a dragon, is basically a divine beast, names his attacks after eastern mythology, and is referred to as a guardian deity early in the arc.

    100% agree. But there is also one aditional reason why Im and not BB is the final vilain. The void century. For the WG be a complete vilain we still have to know the whole extend of their crimes. What did they do 800 years ago. We have to find out how the previous Joyboy failed as to give more meaning to Luffy succeendind. The only way to find out those things is in Laugh Tail and Luffy has to defeat BB before getting there or when they get there (my theory, they will fight on the island for the tittle of PK). It would make no sense for Luffy to defeat BB after becoming PK because they are are both aiming at the tittle and it would make no sense for Luffy to defeat the WG without knowing the full extension of their crimes (it would be really anti climatic for Luffy to defeat the WG and than arrive at LT and find out what they did 800 years ago). So, defeating BB (aka becoming PK by getting to LT) has to come before defeating the WG.

    I think it's also interesting that the "flawed freedom" leads eventually to "control". If you have several parties who are fighting each other (survival of the fittest), you will end up with a party establishing a new status quo with them being on top. So essentially, Blackbeard in another scenario after defeating Luffy and Imu would establish a new government with him being the leader.

    • @sohailsadaqat6684
      @sohailsadaqat6684 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      There is no such thing as flawed or pure freedom. The only freedom that we have to deal with in one piece is "absolute freedom". Both Luffy and Blackbeard are advocates for their own absolute freedom. There is no difference between them in this regard. But blackbeard may have an acutal goal he is persuing, we just don't know yet. The acutal freest people in the world are the clestial dragons.
      Guessing by BB's character his goal seems to be more like kaido.
      A world in which only the strong survive; total anarchy. All these guys including luffy are after absolute freedom. Which is what the clestial dragons have achieved. Luffy is potrayed as the ultimate good guy. But everything he does is not done out of a sense to help opressed people as a hero. Luffy is not someone who rant about his world view. Because he doesn't have one. Luffy does what he wants he doesn't care if its right or wrong. Its only because of Oda's writing that his MC has never faced a morally grey situation.

    • @winterbeast6326
      @winterbeast6326 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Mr-ON You didn't watch One Piece did you?
      Luffy has a moral based on his experiences, Luffy is not an idiot.
      That's what most people try to say (and what I thought before watching One Piece) but it's not true, at all.
      If you looked at enough arcs, you would know. If he really didn't care, One Piece would be REALLY different.
      Freedom is variable. Absolute freedom would be totally based on our present feeling, which would justify killing. Luffy never killed anyone, even Kaido and Big Mom surely are alive.
      Joyboy doesn't kill. That's against his character.
      So yeah, you're wrong.

    • @winterbeast6326
      @winterbeast6326 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @AndrewWithEase11 11 If the control you're talking about is to obey the natural rule of understanding and harmony so yeah, there is some kind of control. If you think about it, Luffy controls those that don't respect those rules like Kaido or Doffy.
      But I'm talking about control for power. To stand above other.
      PS : I don't see why you say we can't stay the same forever, then say we always go back to a state of control. Hence proving we can in fact stay the same forever.
      Pirates are here to break the mold, and One Piece is about a dystopia turning into an utopia. So... I don't know if you are reading a manga that's for you.

    The WG being an opressive organization precedes even Water 7. The very first arc in OP is against Captain Morgan, who was only a Marine Captain but also the highest authority in Shells Town, who commanded fear in everybody, even the townsfolk and his own underlings -- a clear case of abuse of power and unpopular rulership, which perflectly represents the bigger picture with the Celestial Dragons. The evil of the WG could also be felt by the Shichibukai system and some other little examples.

    • @Mr-ON
      @Mr-ON 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Morgan was hypnotised and brainwashed by kuro. When he was reported he was captured and was about to be court martialed. The world government & the navy aren't bad organizations even the revolutionaries accept this fact. The clestial dragons are an anomaly we don't know why they are the way they are. Why are they so protected? They don't benifit anyone. Why would Pirates like Roger protect them?

    • @lucasfmhomem
      @lucasfmhomem 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Mr-ON Morgan was hypnotized to believe he captured Kuro, but it's only that. His tyranical behavior in Shells Town was all himself, no brainwashing.
      The Revolutionaries are not against *a* World Government, but they're certainly against the ideology that's rooted in *this* World Government from top to bottom since its foundation 800 years ago, which is a fascist organization that establishes a racist social hierarchy (Celestial Dragons are "gods") that explores those on the bottom (the poorer allied nations) and considers to be inhuman all the nations who are not under its oppressive rule (like Greenbull explictly stated). Beyond the Celestial Dragons themselves, Akainu's "absolute justice" perfectly embodies this fascism in the Marines, and that's why he became Fleet Admiral. Of course, there are some marines who are good people, and they fight pirates who are bad... but this doesn't change the fact that the Marines exist to protect the rule of the current WG, which produces slavery, genocide, poverty, misery, imperialism, colonization, etc.

    • @Mr-ON
      @Mr-ON 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lucasfmhomem The government isn't as opressive or tyrranical as people think. They even allowed the kings the abolish the warlords one of the 3 world powers. They allow countries that are kingdoms to be kingdoms and allow nations that are democracies like water 7 to be democracies. Post marineford we saw regular citizens clebrating the victory of the world goverment and the navy. That show that the average citzen really see the Navy and WG as a bekon of justice and the pirates to be evil.
      And the "genocide" wasn't tbe end goal at Ohara. They wanted to destroy the criminal scholars and their illegal research. The research that was outlawed and the scholars knew what they were doing is illeagel. So their government had the right to execute the punishment. The operation was lead by sengoku who most people don't call evil. Thats why the civillians were intially evacuated. But then Akainu realised that there was no way to seperate a civillian from a scholar. Robin is a great example of that she was a scholar disguised as a civillian. Thats why the civillains had to die to ensure the safety of the rest of the world. And Robin to this day is very much a real threat to world.
      If robin revieves an ancient weapon and that gets into the hands of an evil pirate like as BB. Aokiji will be responsible for the death and destruction the the ancient weapon would cause becaus he let Robin live.
      The only stain of the WG are the clestial dragons. Because they don't make any sense. They are increadibly weak, unlikable, unnecessary and waste of money. They don't contribute anything to the WG, they are a net negative. They have absolutely nothing going for them. The WG can funtion completely fine without them. So why the World Government the Navy and even Pirates like Roger are so eager to protect them an matian status quo. Why does shanks hold meetings with the Elders who are themselves world nobles?

    • @lucasfmhomem
      @lucasfmhomem 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Mr-ON The WG IS the Celestial Dragons. They are its founders, and the entire hierarchy and WG institutions were created to their benefit above all else. What's an Admiral's role? To obey the Celestial Dragons, and that's why Garp refuses to be one. And besides the Celestial Dragons themselves, the ones who benefit the most from this system are the other nobles/royalty of the world who also live in privilege. Most of the world population actually live in poor countries that can't pay their WG taxes, or live in slums in richer countries due to the inequality of the system. It's not random that people around the world are rebelling against these countries, and that's because THEIR life is personally affected by the exploitation of the WG. And the Marines will opress their rebellion because that's what this fascist institution is meant to do.
      Ohara is not the only WG genocide we know of (btw, Akainu was never punished for it, or expelled from the ranks, but promoted, and now is Fleet Admiral). The WG also allowed the genocide of Flevance because they kept exploring the richness of its soil despite knowing that it sicken the citzens in the long run and they'd all die.
      And that's only a handful of their crimes for power. If some folks support the WG, it's only because pirates can be even worse, and also because they are fed its propaganda, or are among the elite. It's no different from the real world, really.

    Great observations on the theme of the story going on here. I have a friend who has been saying for a long while that he thinks the World Government, and not Blackbeard, will be the final villain of the story. I am still of the opposite opinion, even though both have a lot of appeal to them. The reason I haven't flipped is because the World Government being defeated before the fight vs Blackbeard carries a lot more meaning in my eyes than Blackbeard being defeated on the way to destroying the World Government. See, if Blackbeard has to fall first, he was just a stepping stone. There is a lot of work to be done in order for Blackbeard to symbolize some gargantuan theme like he's been se up to be. On the other hand, if the World Government falls first, the stage is set up beautifully as the world loses the authority it has had for centuries, and two opposing views must battle in order to bring about a new world, the one that each envisions. In other words, one king would be dethroned and the two heirs whose rule would look drastically different from each other would have to fight to the death to decide what kind of dawn the world will be seeing.

  • @agm5424
    @agm5424 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    On imu's symbolism:
    I believe that just like Luffy represents the sun/dawn and Blackbeard the darkness/chaos Imu represent the symbols know as the Dark Sun. Now the Dark sun represents a lot of things depending on who you ask but in this case I'll focus on the following two:
    One) In some cases the Dark sun represents a bastardizing or dark reflection of the qualities of the Sun. To put it simply the sun represents life, natural order or in other words moral order, people living and letting others live. This in a way is represented in Luffy, who wants to be the most free man in the sea, sets free islands/nation that lived under authoritarian regimes, has the powers of the sun god nika and has a straw hat that looks like the sun. The Dark Sun, Imu, represents a twisted artificial version of order and a bastardization of life. Instead of an order maintain by morality/people living in harmony by choice he creates an order maintained by authoritarianism and violence, in other words a false artificial/man made "order" design and envisioned by him.
    And second) the Dark Sun represents what one would call the hidden hand or the power behind the throne that actually controls all from the shadows. While the archetypal good king (that wears a crown representing the sun and it's rays, or just a straw hat) leads his people in the open, maintains peace and harmony and is the embodiment of Morality a dark/hidden ruler, like Imu or Father from fma, keeps himself in the shadows controling everything behind the scenes since he would know that in order to effectively control a population the last thing you would want is for everyone to know your face and thus the type of person you are in case they don't want to be ruled by you any longer. Better to have a front man or a bunch of somewhat benevolent kings that are easy to manipulate or take out and have the people focus on them. If they f'ck up, like the Doffy or that guy from drum island, all you have to do is replace them with someone more likeable and the people will be content and non the wiser.

    I agree with Morj here . I think it was because the idea of world government being the final entity to be taken down to bring about dawn was carefully seeded into our minds by oda but without a figurehead I thought the villains would be the admirals , Akainu , Kong ( probably) and the five elders and the ones to take.down them would be a vast alliance of pirates and revolutionaries . Now with Im being introduced it makes sense and most probably he/she will be powerful for the sake of being the final antagonist.( Or another route can be Im is the one who started the WG rule during the void century and is immortal , this theory makes sense for me but however it turns out i believe Oda will not let the story down ).
    I think BB will be the competition for pirate king which luffy have to take down as he gets closer to onepiece. And after him being named The Pirate King and learning about history or something luffy isc type of logic he would rally against the WG .

    The more that the series moves on the more I think luffy shouldn’t fight Akainu. Luffy should try and Garp should step and avenge Ace. This would symbolize Garp being released from his bounds from the marines and being free to protect his family.
    It would also give us a non-flashback Garp fight which I think we really need!

    • @MetakJesu07
      @MetakJesu07 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's awful. Garp is a relic of the old era, so at best if he's involved in the fight it would be as a sacrifice for further motivation. At the end of the day, it's the lead pirate vs lead marine of the New Era, not the old.

    • @ianardell4660

      @@MetakJesu07 eras are in regard to pirates. I can’t think of a single time when Oda references eras in regard to marines. It makes perfect sense for Garp to be the one to defeat Akainu in a final war scenario. Why would luffy not fight the world government leader and instead someone two tiers beneath them?

    • @MetakJesu07
      @MetakJesu07 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ianardell4660 Did you think the Marines just disappear during the era? Eras are in regard to both, which is why Garp & Sengoku were called relics of the old era by Blackbeard. That's also why they chose to resign and leave the leading of the new era to someone new.
      That's like saying that it makes sense for Big Mom to defeat Kid & Law. One of the main themes of this most recent arc was out with the old and in with the new....yet you expect the old Marines to defeat the new? Again, it's just silly.

    • @ianardell4660
      @ianardell4660 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MetakJesu07 I didn’t say they didn’t exist within eras I’m saying the categorization of eras is strictly for pirates. The marine doesn’t have eras. The marines don’t have “generations”. Akainu is also old so what era is he from that garp isnt? You can’t equate that to law and big mom bc it was big mom who was the antagonist it wouldn’t make sense for her to lose bc that’s now how shonen stories work. For example in Dressrosa, The dad gladiator won his battle against a younger pirate. By your logic that can’t happen.

    • @MetakJesu07
      @MetakJesu07 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ianardell4660 Again, why do you think the era only applies to pirates and not Marines? We literally have Blackbeard clearly state that Garp & Sengoku belong to the old era. This is the manga itself.
      Akainu only became Fleet Admiral within 2 years. He wasn't an Admiral during Roger's time or even just 20 years ago when Ohara got destroyed. WB was still calling him a brat because he was part of the New era.
      Are you talking about King Riku in Dressrosa as well? That isn't remotely comparable.

    Final Villain 1 lit. I kinda think Shanks may be the final Boss. At the break neck pace we're going towards the end it's hard for me to see Immu or BB have the emotional weight that someone like shanks could have as a the final fight. Then again, there's no way Oda actually ends one piece in 3 years, right? Blackbeard just still doesn't feel evil, bad or wrong to me. Especially considering what how some of the actual tyrants of the world behave. I think they'll fight but I don't think he's the final guy. Being ao early out from Immu makes it hard to see them as a final Villain. I think if Shanks actually has some connection to the WG/Celestial Dragons it could work that he is an agent to maintain their order like Itachi and that the current balance is better than what could be in his eyes but needs someone strong enough/worthy to beat him a la Luffy/joyboy.

    Great video!
    But I think this entire story of Luffy vs god was also told during Arlong Park. Before we knew the Celestial Dragons existed and that they were considered Gods of the world, Arlong presented himself as a god among humans. His tower reached high in the heavens, signifying his dominion over the villagers, and he also demanded heavenly tributes from them. Oda cleverly used the moon imagery to symbolize Cocoyashi village's state of darkness, which is a microcosm of the entire world.
    In Nami's private moment after telling the crew to go away, she said how she wanted to be free and be able to laugh from the bottom of her heart. So, when Arlong broke his promise and betrayed Nami, it was metaphorically the darkest before the dawn. Then came the dawn. Luffy placing his hat on Nami's head foreshadowed the rising sun (The straw hat looks like a rising sun). And following the destruction of God's tower, Oda drew the sun shining behind Luffy, signifying that a new day of freedom had come.
    At the end, Nami's gained freedom and laughter, so did the villagers, all thanks to Nika, the warrior who brings smiles and liberation. Nami's story, I believe, is a microcosm of the also the Fishmen's story, which will be played out on a grander scale at the end of the story.
    *Parallels:*
    Fish-men (Lords of all creation) = Celestial Dragons (gods)
    Arlong (god) kept Nami prisoner in a room at the peak of Arlong Park = Celestial Dragons (gods) are keeping the Fish-men prisoner in a bubble below Mariejois.
    Arlong's demands tribute from the villagers = The Celestial Dragons demand heavenly tribute from the world.
    Sunlight makes the mikan groves grow = Sunlight tree eve brings sunlight to Fishmen Island. (Those trees signify a ray of hope through the darkness)
    Nami gathered treasure and Queen Otohime signatures to take their respective homes to the sun, to a place where they can be truly free and happy, away from the metaphorical darkness.
    Luffy arrives at Arlong Park = Joyboy arrives in Fish-men Island
    Luffy destroyed Arlong Park along with Nami's prison, her room = Luffy will destroy Mariejois along with the Fish-men's prison, Fishmen Island.
    Luffy made a promise = Joyboy's broken promise

    Great video, the topic of the final final is becoming more and more interesting as the story goes on. I think the addition of Im was kinda needed in the story in order to symbolise the hidden and totalitarian evil of a world government. Blackbeard is the pirate counterpart of Luffy and represent the danger of pirates' freedom and dreams while Akainu is meant to represent the danger of marines and the authoritarian side of a great force of military. At the beginning of the story this seemed to be the two opposing forces, but as the plot went on it became apparent that a greater evil has been engulfing the world of One Piece, and neither of these villains can really represent that.
    I think having Im as the final villain, at this point, is the most logical thing. I just hope Oda will give both Blackbeard and Akainu a storyline worth of their characters and develop Im in an interesting way

Not to mention I don't like the message it brings, because it kind of says "to dethrone a god, another god is needed".

Everything has been set up for a long time to imply that Blackbeard will kill Shanks either right before or right after Luffy finally meets Shanks again. Oda's sillhouettes are notoriously different to what they actually look like when they're revealed. So I definitely believe that Im is extremely strong, if not the most powerful character in the series (I know some characters like Kaido have titles like "worlds strongest creature" but I don't think it includes characters yet to be introduced, like Blackbeard is gonna be stronger then Kaido when they fight, just by pure power creep, otherwise Luffy would wipe him out easily, also, as we saw with Nika awakening and beating Kaido and stuff). So I definitely think Im is gonna be the strongest villain of all time. Stronger then Kaido, Blackbeard, Akainu etc etc. Maybe Im got immortal from the previous user of the Ope Ope No Mi eternal youth operation and maybe his the killer of the first Joy Boy....
