    Bobbie was so mad because she thought random chance screwed them over. But knowing that Holden disarmed the warhead was so obvious and makes so much more sense that all she can do is laugh at how angry she got about it.

    When I watch the scene where Chrisjen and Drummer meet, I always think about Drummer and Ashford’s conversation in season 3 when they’re trapped after the speed limit change, and Ashford talks about uniforms and the importance of symbols of unity. Ashford would have been so proud of season 6 Drummer.

    Avasaralla's dress is supposed to be based off the exposed wiring of a belter ship. Also in the flashback, the belter who crushed the captain's glass cat is the same belter who spaced Prax's friend in season 2.

    I love that Drummer only fidgets when it comes to Naomi. Cara Gee is amazing.
    And I’m totally on her side in being pissed at Naomi. They’re not besties; Drummer is absolutely, 100% _in love_ with Naomi in a way that Naomi just isn’t. No matter how objectively right Naomi is, it’s gut-wrenching to watch Drummer’s feelings “used against her”. Not that Naomi’s actively trying to torture Drummer, but it is torture all the same 💔
    As for Amos and Bobbie, if they’re hooking up, I think Holden would have to ask them to… well, _not_ while on the Roci. It’s only a gunship, it’s not indestructible, and I’d worry about structural damage.

    For the record, a forest was built in the second largest soundstage for the Laconia scenes. There were challenges, to be sure, but it was impressive as a heck.
    Also, to accommodate schedules, the season was filmed somewhat out of order, so THAT scene on the revered Tynan was one of the last scenes filmed for the season and the show.
    And let me tell you, if there were some eyes which weren't so dry - for many reasons but not the least of which were Cara Gee's performance.
    Hot damn, she was so good at being Drummer. She was also even better at being a human to everyone on set. Warmest smile on the whole damn show.
    Good luck on your EXPANSE withdrawal phase, Ang.

    Tye Franke, co-writer of the book series and one of the writers and producers on the show complimented Elias Toufexis as the only other actor besides Wes Chatham, who truely understood Amos as a character. The other actors who auditioned for the role would for example read lines where Amos is confronting someone as threatening. Elias and Wes understood that Amos in those situations doesn't make threats, he just makes matter of fact statements.

    One of the biggest pitches I give to watch this show is the women, and the roles they play. There aren't many (any?) shows where female characters are the most powerful and important characters in the storyline, without any pretension. This is an incredible tale where women are key players without falling into ANY simple tropes. While Naomi and Holden have a relationship, it is not a stereotype, it is complex and real. Nothing is forced, and the writing doesn't fall into traps that could make this a lot worse.
    The showdown with Drummer and Avasarala is epic.
    I know you have seen the end.
    I hope you weren't disappointed:

    • @weefek

      I agree 100% but I didn't even realize this until maybe my 3rd or 4th watching. So much for "the Patriarchy" in "media" or whatever the fuck they call it. The books are the same way, generally. The amount of bad-ass women in this show is awesome. And they are all awesome. (Referring to the books) There are only a few real strong male characters, not including people like Dawes or Johnson. Way more bad ass chicks, for the most part. And it came completely naturally to the point (Like I said) I didn't even realize at first. Just like race, gender doesn't matter much. Granted this is a different world and what not but still. I think the biggest point is what you've already pointed out, zero 'simple tropes'. It would be easy to do that but they didn't. Not even in the books. There are so many other women in the books that are excluded for plot/screentime/etc reasons.

    I’ve played entirely too much Deus Ex (especially the newer ones), so every time I hear Elias Toufexis’ voice in any other context (including him as Kenzo in the show) it takes me minutes to shake the confusion 😂 Not at all complaining; this is a struggle of my own making. This time through I knew it was coming and it still hit me almost as hard. Overall, I ended the episode similarly to Angela: (1) the emotional gut punch of the conversation between Drummer and Naomi, (2) “damn, Avasarala looks amazing”, (3) chills at the handshake.

  • @XeonAlpha
    @XeonAlpha ปีที่แล้ว +38

    “F**k you, you self-righteous s**t.” Oh that hits in the feels.
    I’ve seen a couple people talk about Drummer’s affection for Naomi. Really the Expanse does what it does so well in telling an uncommon story. They both clearly love each other, but it may or may not be a physical relationship. Drummer’s entire “family” is about people who share an intimate bond and, frankly, sexual fluidity… without ever drawing hard lines around it.
    One of my favorite things about The Expanse has been the way it depicts “queer” relationships by just letting them exist. In the first few episodes we get a gay couple (the Martian ambassador) but it’s just _there_. No one tries to put too fine a point on it….which is _exactly_ how it should be (and what as a queer person myself wants to see).
    In the universe of the Expanse, gay, straight, bi, poly are just people… which is amazing.

    • @funnylilgalreacts
      @funnylilgalreacts  ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I definitely think that I have more insight than some of the straight people who are commenting on the relationship. I’ve had romantic relationships and I’ve had best friend relationships. My best friend relationships are hell of a lot stronger than those romantic ones ever were. I think the assumption is that because Drummer is poly any love that she shows another female must be romantic. I have heard that Cara Gee has said that Drummer is in love with Naomi but I don’t think that that’s the way it was written. I just think that’s the way she wanted it to be.

    • @XeonAlpha
      @XeonAlpha ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@funnylilgalreacts 💯
      I totally get it. Even being in the gay world it’s often hard for people to accept having close friends that are literally “just friends.”
      Personally I think part of it is that people are just so unaccustomed to non-traditional/poly relationships that it’s hard to grasp people can be close without it being sexual.

    • @dapeach06
      @dapeach06 ปีที่แล้ว

      @funnylilgalreacts Fellow queer here. You can be best friends even with a one-sided physical or romantic attraction if both people respect the other's boundaries, which we see Drummer and Naomi both do. I think you're right that it wasn't written that way, at least not initially, but that Cara and Dominique played it that way, and it became canonical over seasons 5 and 6. If Drummer didn't have romantic feelings for Naomi, she easily could have diffused the jealousy that Oksana and Michio felt towards Naomi by saying so. I think Drummer's silence on it is telling. But it's up to interpretation, and them being besties certainly doesn't diminish their relationship in any way.
      But Naomi does ask more of Dummer than Drummer asks of Naomi, including in this episode, and I think it's okay to recognize that relative imbalance in their relationship even while recognizing their deep friendship, platonic love, and unbreakable bond.
      Oksana and Michio were wrong to be jealous of Drummer's affection for Naomi, but weren't wrong about the lengths Drummer is willing to go for Naomi. And its complicated by the fact that Drummer always did the right thing, in letting Naomi leave the Behemoth to rescue the Roci crew in the slow zone, in preparing to sacrifice her life on the Behemoth to kill Diogo and save Naomi, and in siding with the Roci over the Free Navy, despite losing Serge as a result.

    • @kirkdarling4120
      @kirkdarling4120 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@XeonAlpha Romantic love doesn't have to be sexual, and obviously unrequited romantic love is not sexual.

We made a bet, and based on your reaction I just won a bottle of Pinot Grigio! So thanks for a great reaction. I’ll make sure to have a sip for you!

    I think Bobbie laughed because it was such a Holden thing to do. There's a reason why James is most often referred to as "James *mf* Holden" by people in the books, said with an air of bewilderment and respect.

    I really love what you said. "You need to allow people to change."
    I have not seen anything from Ty explaining it explicitly, but that is also true of so much of the series, but make no mistake, the name you won't say (as the imagery it provokes) is juicy and deep with real meaning, not only for her but also Amos, the community has been very vocal about putting the pieces together. Briefly, it's not a nickname anymore than Amos's is. If Melba is the chrysalis from which she metamorphosed, this new name (not one she chose, but bestowed on her by her community *such a powerful act*, or clan of two as she has said) is a new beginning.
    Amos literally had to end his existence (to those on the streets of Baltimore) to become Amos. She also is likely to have multiple standing warrants for multiple, very, bad, things (I don't want my comments to be flagged) and in the eyes of the state she also had to end her existence in that cell in order to become the person she is now. Amos also put his faith in her ability for a second chance even when she didn't believe in her own worthiness. The name may not absolve her actions in a previous life but helps act as a buffer to give her the emotional space to take stock of herself without the baggage weighing down any chance of self growth.
    Also, Melba, really? Earlier you mentioned liking that name more; why is that a better name? From a culinary aspect, what most often is paired with melba, which is sweet, wholesome, and nourishing? Maybe Amos had someone prepare it for him once, or maybe he just heard it and understood the reference so what she came into his life as Melba, which was her choice, he in his charming and child like way, flips it slightly to make it, fun, affable, if not refreshing to think about. I think we all need someone like Amos in our corner at least once in our lives to give us that push back into the right direction of our lives. He really is amazing, and so is.... Not saying the name (assuming you have read this far) is more of an insult to him and his ability to see humanity in literally anyone on the lowest rung of life.
    Real quick, Drummer and Naomi are a bit more than besties, or at least were. Speaking of character growth, am I the only person who see's someone in that pair as having next to zero growth in the whole series? More on that next episode.

    I love Drummer. Probably since she was shot and then killed the Black Sky dudes that shot her on Tycho. Drummer has been groomed to be a leader for the Belt with serving under Dawes and Fred. She's picking a way to lead that have pieces of them. She knows how to give a speech with the one last episode and when the Behemoth was about to transit through the Ring. With Fred and Dawes gone, it paves the way for Drummer and a better way for The Belt. I wish great things for Cara Gee. Don't know if you're going to be playing The Expanse game when it comes out, but that has Dummer as the lead character.
    There's a Kickstarter for a comic called The Expanse: Dragon's Tooth and it's suppose to take place after the events of the TV series.
    I did have fun with that scene with Bobbie and Amos. I was suprised by her reaction to the news, but I guess she figured the reason he did it was good enough.
    I'm a little surprised that no reactors have seen the railgun emplacements being built on the Ring Station over the past couple episode opening credits. I was like, "What the hell is that?, at first and then it snapped into place with this episode.
    I forgot that Monica made one more appearance here in the last X-rayI still want to know why the Cant captain has those cats. Maybe he thought he was bringing something to the frontier to trade, like beads or something to the natives. Maybe its explained in the book. Maybe we weren't meant to know, like what Ade was going to tell Holden.
    Great Cameo from Xander and Ellias!
    I felt that the series coming to an end was bittersweet. They had a great run, but for me Season 3 is still my favorite. And I was wanting to see more PM stuff so with it having less attention paid to it, I found that piece missing. The Strange Dog stuff was probably for fans like me.

    And I think you were also right about Drummer and Avasarala's meeting being the perfect moment; I don't think either character could have met before this one - They've both had to change and lose so much to end up at this point, that any meeting before this would never have worked. It's just another testament to the show's brilliant writing and actor's performances to build up to this one perfect moment.

    With only one episode to go, it's bittersweet to look back at the show and the amazing character growth of all the characters. When they initially announced that the final season would only have 6 episodes, I got major Game of Thrones vibes that they were going to try and tie up all loose ends by cramming all the rest of the books into those six episodes, which would havenot only ruined the show, but destroyed the enjoyment of the show on re-watch. Instead, the showrunners showed their commitment to the story and the fans with top-notch writing and the actions/decisions that every character makes was hard-earned over the course of the show.

    Believe it or not the crew of the Rossi isn't seen on Ceres until season 6. Early on the Rossi is a,"stolen Corvette with a dead Mickie in the trunk." So they have to go to Tyco. By the time the Rossi is, almost a legitimate salvage, they are hanging around the ring by Uranus 🤣. Then when they're a legitimate salvage they're in another solar system at Ilus in season 4. They're to busy trying to stay alive in season 5 to go to Ceres. I didn't realize it until just now.

      You can be queer and not be in love with somebody… It just doesn’t strike me as that type of relationship. There’s a lot of love there, but I don’t get the feeling it’s anything more than a friendship.

    • @ferchrissakes
      @ferchrissakes ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@funnylilgalreacts Hate to disagree, but Drummer is absolutely pining for Naomi, it’s just that Naomi doesn’t feel the same. It was - and is - a strong friendship, but, as sometimes happens, Drummer developed unrequited feelings for her best friend. Naomi first called and then showed up in person all smiles and happy to see her friend Drummer, but Drummer acted closed-off, because to her it’s incredibly painful. If they were just besties, why would Drummer be so hesitant to see her? Why would it be painful? They didn’t have a falling-out, there’s no bad blood between them. Certainly Naomi’s not in any way being standoffish, it’s just Drummer who’s trying desperately not to get hurt. Naomi says she loves her, and Drummer responds with “fuck you” because that’s twisting the knife as it’s not the same love. Drummer tried to move on, deleting all of her saved messages from Naomi and putting her out of her mind, but then Naomi just shows up again. Naomi, unintentionally and (I hope) unknowingly, breaks Drummer’s heart whenever she shows up. It’s why Drummer fidgets when watching Naomi’s message; Drummer never fidgets. It’s why, back in season 3, when she thought she’d die taking out Diogo, she didn’t quite apologize to Holden for shooting at the Roci, but told him to tell Naomi that she was sorry. In that moment, even Holden realized that Drummer loves Naomi like he does.
      If you’ve ever found yourself in Drummer’s position of unrequited love, you’ll recognize that Cara Gee plays it to a tee.

    I'm a bit sad you didn't show your reaction to Holden saying: "We're all the same people." It's really the crux of this X-Ray. That unwavering idealism of non-partisanship that Holden seemingly clashes with the entire universe over, time and again.

    The Laconia segment was, indeed, expensive. They actually built that forest and it was so extensive and dense that people got lost in it.
    Michio is bad at combat action, but remember she hit Karal with enough force to kill the woman through her suit. Michio can do what's necessary for those she loves.
    I don't know if anyone has mentioned, but the strange dogs look rather like organic versions of the mechanical device that Miller cast himself into.
    I guess we have to figure that Havelock (in the series), Captain Shadid, and Octavia Muss were executed when the Free Navy took over Ceres.

    KENZO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wgat tge fycj! So cool. Kenzo was my favorite character on The Expanse other than for James Holden. And I never got why he was so hated on for being the 'spy'. He was Christjen's spy. And without his help they would never have gotten to donkey balls. It was Kenzo who saved the day. Most people wanted Bobby or Drummer to join the crew but the one person I wished for was Kenzo. The guy was a perfect foil for Amos. And he was a great spy. He had the chops just based on his eye tech alone. But no. They killed him off. Never a call back. Never his props for saving the crew.
