I was wondering because this is like the third time he did the Memento, and more specifically it was the same bit in part seven of Season 3 of this show. If this wasn't a running gag, I was gonna worried for not only his sanity, but also mine.
I have been dodging the opening every single time so as not to spoil the movie, but I rewatch these reviews so often I never noticed it’s been repeated.
Absolutely love the intro bit, could not understand until now why you kept repeating, i genuinely thought i was developing amnesia. Also love the new video.
Joe, was there not a similarly designed fish monster in "The Exterminator" episode from S2 of The New Scooby-Doo Movies? It was definitely a different colour but appeared during the indoor swimming pool scene.
I was giving this episode a second go-round and suddenly realized something when you mentioned how the Warlock of Anthos looks like a comic-book supervillain. Anthos is an anagram of THANOS.
Somebody at Hanna-Barbara was ahead of their time. But who? That or it was just a strange coincidence that we can laugh about knowing what has come of it since then..
I can’t wait for the next series. I actually like Scrappy and how he always believed in Scooby, believing his acts of cowardice were simply tactical maneuvers.
@@andrewpeterson3201 Yeah, I really love those movies. Putting that aside though, I hope the next series reviews doesn't just turn into Scrappy bashing. It's perfectly fine to complain about him in those videos and dislike his character, but I'm a little worried that it may pop up too often while he's around.
As much as I'm not looking forward to the next series, I know He is still beloved by a lot of people and, to be BROOT-ally honest, one of His creators is a writer that I greatly admire, Mark Evanier, so I do have a sense of guilt for all the ire I feel for that brown little turd. Thus, I really don't plan on spending a lot of time trashing Him, but I can't promise my distaste won't occasionally show. Let me put it like this: my TH-cam friends and I recently watched 'Robot in the Family' which is a notoriously bad film featuring a racial stereotype who invents a very, very, very, VERY annoying talking robot that WILL. NOT. SHUT. UP. While watching that film, I couldn't help but realize Golddigger (the robot's name was Golddigger) reminded me a lot, and I mean A LOT of Scrappy. Not with just how annoying and unfunny and annoying he was, but even the voice itself was extremely reminiscent of Him. It had the same timber and cadence. I ask that all bear with me when I reach those episodes and when I inevitably slip, please remember I'm doing all I can to not show how much I detest Him. Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
Nicely done, Joe! Even though it didn't end on that high of a note, it's certainly been an entertaining journey when it comes to this series. I can't wait for your Cyber Chase ranking, as well as your upcoming meeting with the pup, the monster and the legend we all know and love (or hate, depending on the fanbase-member). Also, it annoys the besserwisser-part of me so much that the animators didn't draw Julie wearing a scuba suit, mask and tank when unmasked. I get it's easier to just draw her in her normal outfit, but my suspension of disbelief has it's limit and there's no way in hell she could both move the way she did and hold her bloody breath while under water and wearing that large costume at the same time. Hell, H&B and later WB has drawn people wearing masks (both utility based like gasmasks and those meant to impersonate people) underneath their costumes both before and in the future of the franchise, so why not here? Especially when her costume was actually big enough, unlike other villains who has or will appear, to allow her to wear it! I know I shouldn't complain when I've seen stuff such as Scooby pulling out a fricking bicycle-helicopter out of bloody nowhere when he needs it and a literal police fish with seemingly actual jurisdiction, but I can't help it. The logic-loving douche in me has to scream, or rather write, something into the ether about this before the insanity claims me. Now, with that crazy tirade out of the way, thanks again for the content, Joe. It's truly some of the best on the platform. And I wish you some luck when you have to come face to face with (gulp) HIM...
Thank you so much for the kind words! And I absolutely understand your rant. In the early days, with one very obvious exception (a talking dog?), the Scooby series were extremely grounded, and the animators took the time to explain all the "supernatural" elements, whether it was ghosts projected onto walls, underwater scuba tank storage, or even how a short villain could disguise himself as a tall monster. By the end of 'The Scooby-Doo Show', they just weren't trying, sadly. Thank you again for taking the time to comment, and for watching and supporting my channel! I have new equipment on the way which hopefully will help streamline some of my filming, so with luck, 'Cyber Chase' will be here before you know it!
Thank you very much for the kind words! I currently knee-deep in 'Cyber Chase', and after that, it's the next series in chronological order! I hope you're there when I hit it! Thanks for watching!
Maybe the guy playing against Jimmy in the Purple shirt was smiling because he was like that women who got onto the Australian Olympic breakdancing team with zero qualifications, like her he was just there to have a bit of fun.
All the more better since I outsourced the accent. To be safe, I recorded the lines myself and... well, they were just the worst. Worse even than Frank Welker's English accent. Thanks as always for watching and commenting!
The Lake Monster from the last episode of The Scooby-Doo Show reminded me of those Aquatic Sea Creatures from The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest episode Undersea Urgency.
I googled that episode and I can absolutely see what you're talking about, though what's in the RAJQ episodes looks more like Zerg from 'StarCraft'. Man, I'm a SUCH a nerd. Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!
The demonic canine looked far scarier than Anthos. Despite the warlock not being scary I'm always an advocate for the monster incorporating potential violence & theatrics for gaslighting purposes when appropriate, and John & Nick succeed at doing that for the most part.
Good luck! Starting any new job is one of the most stressful things one can go through, apart from moving and, like, kidney stones. Thank you so much for watching, commenting, subscribing and supporting my channel!
Back to the Seasonal Scoreboards! WHERE ARE YOU Season 1- 2.9 Season 2- 2.5 THE NEW SCOOBY-DOO MOVIES Season 1- 2.5 Season 2- 2.6 THE SCOOBY DOO SHOW Season 1- 2.8 Season 2- 2.8 Season 3- 2.4 I'm glad my life slowed down enough to be on time to catch this one! Good way to start a new year, and I'm looking forward to seeing how well future series stack up... by which I mean, I'm bracing for the rough patch just around the corner, as I'm sure you are as well...
I was watching a bit here and there of the next series while sourcing the episodes and, yeah... This one... this one is going to hurt. Thank you so much for your enthusiasm for watching and for commenting!
Thank you, Joe for making these videos. You always make my days happier than the new video or washing a old ranking video keep making these we appreciate these honestly Joe there’s no word to describe how good these videos are and how helpful they are
Hi Joe! I loved the reference to Professor Trelawney from Harry Potter xD I dont like the warlock disguise, but the hellhound looks pretty cool! That whole tennis match was a complete mess, also the crowd in some shots just look..... so bad. Amusing Patreon members xD Keep it up guys. SECRET TUNNNNNNEL! The second villians outfit is pretty creepy. Darn tourists! Haha well great video as usual. Love the random Dan moments. I hope your 2025 is going better than the end of 2024. God bless.
In all honesty, I have zero idea what Trelawney reference you're thinking of. If there was one, it was unintentional. When it comes to crowd shots in early series, Hanna-Barbera artists apparently had just two settings: blobs and WTF ugly. I love my random Dan moments, too! Thank you so much for the kind words and for watching and supporting my channel!
Bleah, hate to hear that. I went through a patch like that just before Christmas and I'm STILL coughing from something that feels stuck in my chest. Hope you're feeling better now and thanks for watching and commenting!
Perhaps the Pelton reference is to a town in England (in County Durham). There's also a turbine called the Pelton Wheel. That's about all I have on the matter. It didn't make sense to have a costume for the warlock's dog! Would it have been so hard to have had a real great dane/mixed breed dog that was part of the plot?
I know, right? I wonder whose dog that was. I mean, if it was either of the Thomas brothers', you'd think we'd have seen it at least once without the disguise before the end. Then again, those two having their own dog would be a dead giveaway. Thanks for watching and commenting and subscribing!
I always assumed (as a Brit) that Pelton was a reference to "pelt 'em" meaning "hit them very hard". Which would be a clever (British) English joke/pun, but that seems unlikely with how painfully awful his accent was...😂
Yeah, I love Michael Bell's voice acting (he was Duke on 'GI Joe', for crying out loud!) but his accents weren't always the best. I mean, here he's essentially performing what would be his eventual Johan voice from 'The Smurfs'. Then again, his English accent wasn't nearly as bad as Frank Welker's. Or mine, for that matter. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Bro, the Bottomless Lake episode features one of the most absurd Shaggy and Scooby moments ever. At one point, they inflate themselves like balloons after pumping up on the air tank, meaning Julie couldn’t harm them if she wanted to, especially since the Beast was so caught off guard by them that she ran away from them like Carl The Stuntman ran from Scooby. They even deflate like regular balloons, so even if the Beast from Bottomless Lake attempted murder, she wouldn’t have succeeded because Shaggy and Scooby just casually throw middle fingers to basic human biology, or in Scooby Doo’s case, throw middle paw fingers..
Hot Take: the Pelton family really was cursed by that Warlock, since even a successful descendent still couldn’t hold onto the family manor even after sinking a fortune into it. Actually, the curse may have compelled him to purchase the old mansion and ruin what ever life he was building in his sports career.
I know you and some other viewers are looking forward to you getting to the next series, and I’m not saying to completely stop forward progress. But I would really really love if maybe once every two-three months, you remake the Where Are You videos in your new style/quality. Such as doing only two episodes per video instead of the 4-5 you would do originally. The original series is so good I think it deserves a deeper dive and you have gotten so much funnier and better over the years! I am definitely begging for this and wonder if anyone else feels the same Especially since we are approaching a less popular series I think would be a great time to work in some remake videos Thanks Joe!
In celebration of the new year, I’m going to rewatch your whole Scooby doo playlist, and then binge all your new videos. I am not sure you will see this but every time, I see a new video on your Chanel it brings a smile to my face. Happy new year thanks for all your hard work in your videos.
One of the cons of watching an iconic movie yourself versus only knowing it as a pop culture reference is you tend to get offended when people don’t even know some of the funnier underrated scenes that get overshadowed by the pop culture references. At least that’s my experience whenever I tend to get annoyed that people don’t remember that Disney’s Cinderella is such a funny movie because of the B story involving the evil cat Lucifer (I swear every scene with him is iconic) and how annoyed he gets during that one scene where evil stepsister Drizella sings so horribly and redeemed evil stepsister Anastasia accidentally hits her with the flute while trying to unstick her finger. It’s my personal gripe every time I think about the iconic ‘I am your father’ scene, and one I hold against myself because of my personal Mandela effect with one traumatic death scene from The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen from my childhood viewing versus me rewatching it as an older teen/young woman and a particular scene from Justice League Unlimited involving Huntress and Superman that I no joke misremembered as a Batman/Catwoman scene. I really should give up my habit of drinking milk at some point but for now I ain’t backing off..
Can't think of a better way to start off the new year than by finishing a series. 8:08 I call bull on that. 15:50 Yeah as someone with very bad eyesight, that's definitely not how glasses work. 25:12 Goodness 32:32 Julie looking like 90s Daphne 40:55 I agree with that 100%. The OG Clash Of The Titans also comes to mind. If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about. 48:30 That's just cats in general. Of course spends a lot of time with a dog, so she probably wouldn't know that. Time for Puppy Power.
I spent the better part of five minutes trying to come up with a suitably homo-erotic name (to fit with the others in that toy/TV series), but gave up. Probably a good idea. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@ No problemo. Can't wait for your next videos, although from here on for a while we probably aren't getting any monsters with high ranking given from what I've seen so far the Scrappy monsters are... eh.
I wish real life worked like that. I'm constantly struggling with keep dust and smears off my own glasses! I'd love for them to be empty frames yet still improve my eyesight! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Well this is it folks ,another series finished we had some good schemes ,some bad ones and some with memorable villains even if the scheme was disappointing .I always remembered the Anthos episode being much earlier in the series than this ,also while his scheme was not original and his costume was pretty ugly ,I do want to give the showrunners some points for choosing a warlock as the villain ,because besides Merlin he is the only unique magic caster that we got ,not counting the many witches and witch doctors . Anyway looking forward to the Cyber Chase video ,it's gonna be good .
The end is here! Well... for this show at least. 3:07 They might not have thought about a pun at all there and just picked a random name. 3:34 Been a while since we had that one. 6:30 You don't want to find yourself in the gaze of THAT kind of Beholder however, especially if you're the magic-user of the party... 13:24 What a clever point to make, I don't know who the person who made that comment is, but they sound like a really cool person😉. 17:30 Out of context, this scene looks quite grim. Nothing but watching the episode actually gives the context that the red substance on the boot ISN'T blood. Just redo the prints on the wall in the background to look like blood splatter and this scene looks like the poor fellow got mauled by a Witch from the Left 4 Dead games. 23:40 I'm just gonna pretend he's actually just being patriotic. Maybe he has Swedish or Ukrainian heritage? That's more than farfetched, but it's more fun for me to have this as my headcanon. Funnily enough, after doing some googling... I found out that Anthos is apparently a God in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, so the comic book villain comment seems to ring quite true. Funnier than that is that "Antho" is a Greek prefix that means "flower" and no disrespect to botanists or florists or whatever, but you don't come across as a very scary warlock (or ghost, for that matter) when your name is basically just "flower". 24:47 and 25:09 To quote the video game Dead Rising: "This is not time to ogle pretty girls, son!" The guy in the crowd also looks like he could be part of the Rogers family tree and he should also be lucky that the "horny jail" and "simp" memes did not exist yet, because I have the feeling anyone catching him staring like that would be making a lot of such memes out a photo of him. 29:05 So now you have two Carl the Stuntmans (or Stuntmen, rather), one lover of Carl the Stuntman, the scariest laugh known to man and a zealous Carl the Stuntman-hater within your Patreon supporters. I guess the last one there is a silver lining. 30:57 This reminds me of the Doctor Who special "Planet of the Dead", where a notorious thief flees a scene by getting on a bus. Just as it leaves, the police notice her and obviously give chase... and yet despite having their sirens on and everything, the bus driver just keeps driving. He must have had death metal on the highest volume in his headphones to somehow not hear the obvious police sirens behind him. 42:24 I very much disagree here. Sure, not the most original costume and the practicality was not great, but I think the scare factor should be enough to give it a 3.0 or at least 2.5. Consider the fact that you gave the Ghostly Strongman who barely had a costume a 2.5... oh well, to each their own. Next is Cyber Chase and I am someone who has seen Caddicarus' old review on it from several years ago... so I'm already starting to think that the Spindly Johnny won't fare all too well. But, that's up for you to decide, Joe. Happy New Year, great video and am excited to see the next review. It could have been a random name, but it's such an odd one, when usually the miscellaneous surnames are much more common, like Smith, Rogers and Jones. It's so uncommon that it has to refer to something or someone, even if it's only important to the writer. I try not to force callbacks in my stuff, but let them flow organically. I like to toss a bone to my friends who play D&D. Not that they watch my stuff. But if they did, they'd have enjoyed THAT little reference! They were awesome for mentioning it, weren't they? During editing, I realized just how "bloody" the scene would look but by that point, I was done filming and didn't think it was worth busting out the equipment. He does look like a flag, doesn't he? Still, purple is my favorite color, so I'm going to side with his gorilla opponent on this one. "Anthos" just makes me think of 'The Three Musketeers', which makes me think of chocolate, which makes me wish I had a chocolate bar. Something tells me we haven't seen the last of Carl-centric Patreon supporters... Much of my ranking is based solely on personal feelings at the time I was writing them, having just watched the episode (or re-watched, or re-re-watched, frequently going back to specific scenes). There's always a chance that whatever mindset I had upon the initial viewing and ranking might change if I were to view it again weeks or months later, but I like to think that at least whatever thought process I was going through at the time is documented enough for future reference. Remember, especially if watching my videos one after another, while there are just minutes between them for the viewer, for me it was weeks or months, so a lot can change during that time. Happy New Year to you as well and hopefully 'Cyber Chase' is imminent. I'm rather excited as I have new equipment coming and, barring learning curves and kinks, should definitely improve my workflow (at least as far as filming goes). Thanks as always for watching, commenting, subscribing and supporting my channel!

That is a valid point and what I state is just my silly personal opinion, so there's no issue.
I think I'm the person who made that Anthos observation. Somebody in the Cat Creature/Mantis video was wondering if the superhero episode was coming up and I asked if they were thinking of Anthos. I also suggested the Blue Scarab from the first Scrappy episode and that turned out to be who they were thinking of. Though maybe someone else noticed that he looked like a supervillain too.
I appreciate it! I'm hoping some new equipment coming this weekend will help improve my audio because that has been the bane of my existence for so long now. My studio is in a bad location in my house, but unfortunately it's the only place it fits. I listen carefully with headphones during the editing to prevent the worst of outside noises from reaching anyone else's ears, but occasionally I have to use a poor recording. The perils of a one-man, low-budget operation! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Thanks for the nice words! I'm THIIIIIIIIS close to having my merch store opened and while I appreciate the thought, I have to be careful what I use so as not to evoke the Copyright demon. That's why I can't offer my Pericles, Space Kook or Drastic Park shirts. Those are a bit obvious. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
@ Oh, I meant a personal shirt for you! I’d love to print and ship one for you in the future. I’m a cartoonist so it probably wouldn’t be anything super intricate, but I do have some ideas.
It's funny how no matter the profitability of the scheme Scooby-doo villains never seem to be big on contracting any of the work. Prefering a more hands on approach by personally being involved in whatever shenanigans is a foot. Which I suppose when involved in crime might be reasonable - trust is not probably an easy currency in that line of business. Still a bit funny how they can be making massive profits and only have at most two on site accomplises. Who seem awfully nice too! Mostly usually resorting to scaring people away or at worst tying them up for a spell or two. Mostly that is. Rather than if the villains had the foresight to hire some gang of thugs to deal with nuisances by escorting them off site for a... pleasant little chat about this whole meddling thing. Shaggy hadn't even yet gone ultra-instinct, so not like they would be hesitant to approach the guy and his friends. Short of any fear of dogs. Dunno if a talking dog would give them pause though. Also: wouldn't using explosives underwater have the same end result as basically dynamite fishing? The border guard(s because one person can't do all shifts) comutting back and forth to work would surely have noticed a lot of dead fish caught up in the explosions blast wave float to the surface along currents/animals making a ruckuss going for the fish. Plus a general change in water quality.
I have been having a Ranking the Villain marathon on this snow day. I literally gasped "oh a new episode" when this video popped on my watch next list 😃!
Hah! I'm so happy to hear that! This is what it's like for me when I'm binging Red Letter Media and then a new one randomly pops in my feed. I can't tell you how much it means to me that, in my own little way, my channel is doing the same for others! Thank you so much for watching and subscribing!
I almost feel like I did a 'Groundhog Day' spoiler warning, but then again, my memory isn't exactly the greatest. Thanks for the kind words, and for watching and subscribing!
I think Jimmy's last name being Pelton is supposed to be "Pelt" + "Wimbledon" since the tennis players pelt balls at each others during Wimbledon. As for Julie and her henchmen they should've used the explosives to blow up the underwater tunnel as soon they saw the Scooby Gang were there.
For the next series, there actually are a few pretty good villains (at least design wise) to look forward to, for instance the Neon Phantom looks hella cool
You're not wrong, but I still don't understand the later popularity of this particular villain disguise. It's just so... boring, really. Thanks for watching and commenting!
My gosh I was so confused in the first couple seconds of the video until I saw you explain Momento again HAHAHA that bit was too funny XDD I can't believe we got to the end of the scooby doo show !! I swear this series flew by, and what I final two to go off with ! I actually really liked the two villains outfits, though I do agree the warlock was goofy af 😂but that's part of the charm for me~ But the fish monster, I think is wicked creepy, for scooby standards, Julie did a good job with that one, despite the lack of safety Cannot wait for scrappy doo to get thrown into the mix HAHA until then
Neither one of them had much fashion sense, did they? At least Anthos knew enough not to plaster on the mustache wax! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Honestly im loving how out of pocket the patreon names are getting (i my self being the spacekooks sentient laugh) and cant wait to see what names are next
I hope I did that shoutout justice! It was trickier than it looked, trying to match the timing with my narration. Thanks for watching, commenting and supporting my channel!
32:31 In a book adaptation of the episode, Julie (who was given the last name Johnson) ran her own shop near bottomless lake and she planned to scare people away so they could go buy more equipment at her store and she would make even more money. She did it by herself with no help from henchmen, and I know the whole idea sounds dumb cause doing this would lead to people not coming back because of the monster.
The whole scheme wasn't really original as the same people that wrote their adaptation of "A Clue for Scooby-Doo" had Mr. and Mrs. Cutler (who are a brother and sister in the book and not an elderly couple) break people's surfboards and boats just so they could go to the surf shop they ran and they could spend more money.
I don't know. I think that plot sounds more interesting than what we got in the episode. You can only fill so many stories with gold smuggling, after all. Thanks for watching and commenting!
The sea monster is actually reused in a game later on, Scooby Doo Unmasked. Just gets a recolor, but in a way. It still DOES wind up being reused evetually. ^^;
I would put the bottomless lake operation score a bit lower due to the fact this was in Canada, looking past the pacifist facade will show a whole bunch of war crimes and the fact the Mounties are the best police force in the world (as I learn from the leverage revival)
I was amazed to learn that the German army was most afraid of the Canadians in World War II. Apparently there is a lot of darkness behind that public façade of terminal politeness shown by the denizens of the Great White North! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I struggled-and I mean I STRUGGLED-with tossing in a few notes from 'All Out of Love' or 'Making Love Out of Nothing At All' when I hit that line in editing, but I'd already had so many cutaways and inserts that I decided not to in the end. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video as always, although I wouldn't consider either of these episode amongst my favorites, I feel they were both solid enough episodes. And as a Canadian I got a kick out of the beast from bottomless lake.
Someday I'm going to run into a Scooby episode devoted to corn and soybeans and I'll be able to share that sentiment! Thanks for watching and commenting!
39:12 no, if I remember, he said “No, I am your father”. And he’s just so casual about it too. Bro didn’t even care that he was causing his kid daddy issues. Vader is just not S tier dad material. Then again, there are worst fictional dads out there, so maybe Vader is not so bad?
To be fair, Lucas eventually made the original trilogy essentially a redemption arc for Vader, so he had to start from a place of darkness to have the chance to go back to the light. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOver, I know. I grew up with those films. Or rather, I grew up watching The Clone Wars first (though I must’ve missed an episode or two to have not known about Padme Amidala until I saw the prequels), which was my starting point into the prequels. And when you’re a child watching Revenge Of The Sith for the first time, Order 66 can be a thousand times more traumatizing. It took me a long while to get used to watching Anakin become Darth Vader. And then thanks to my soon to be ex-stepfather’s obsession with collecting video cassettes, I was able to watch the original trilogy, and the rest is history. I watched everything in a weird chronological order which is why I knew the “I am your father” twist before I even saw the OG scene that started it all.
Shaggy broke through using Ultra Instinct. He could deliver more force than the Mystery Machine's weight. Also, plastic explosives won't detonate if you set it on fire. It's actually one of the safest kinds of explosives due to how stable it is. Mythbusters did an episode on it.
Am I the only one who thinks it would be a cool "villain" plot for Scooby Doo to have a superstitious bad guy who genuinely believes in a curse and recreates it for their plot thinking chasing the victim away is a cool premise after this?
What's scary is Jodie the Pig's eyes in the window! I wasn't lying that it still almost makes me **** my pants this many years later! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I know, right? It's like if you're unlucky enough to find yourself in the deep woods of Alabama and you see a light in a cabin in the distance. No matter how cold it is, you'd be far, far safer sleeping outside and going hungry. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I feel nostalgic for the warlock episode, I had this episode as apart of a dvd collection that I rewatched multiple times, I might just have a look at may collection to see if I can find it. also hers a interesting question, who do you think was the best villains, specifically for each different DOO category (basically which villain did the best in Design, Outfit and Operation).
Funny that you mentioned the Mandela Effect in this video since I have one too, though in my case it's about the Anthos episode and not the Beast of Bottomless Lake episode. I remember the motive being that the manor was Nick and John's childhood home but there's nothing about that in the episode. To be honest though, that should've been the motive since it gives them a more personal reason to want the manor rather than a centuries old grudge. By the way, I'm curious what your favorite and least favorite episode of The Scooby-Doo Show was now that you've reached the end. Not in terms of DOO Score, just from an enjoyment perspective.
I agree wholeheartedly about giving the Thomas brothers a better reason for their crime. Having grown up in the place would have gone a long way toward explaining their motivation. I'm not sure how to rank the episodes in order of favorite/least favorite. If I had to choose, I'd be hard-pressed to decide between 'The Harum-Scarum Sanitarium' and 'The No-Face Zombie Chase Case' as my favorite. Both were compelling episodes, with both featuring genuinely creepy monsters that hit above the usual kiddie fare. Least favorite would probably be 'Don't Go Near the Fortress of Fear', though much of the third season was just meh. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I see a fanfiction working really well if they did come up with a masterminding criminal organization. Maybe Dr Zin from Johnny Quest. Also do you think if when any of these Scooby villains get out of jail they would call the gang for help if they're framed for a crime in the future?
Amazing video as usual! I was curious, I know you've been doing the dual villain format for a while now (and I'm sure others have asked about this), but I was wondering why it was switched up from looking at multiple villains (as seen in your Where Are You videos) to looking at only two villains in the New Scooby-Doo Movies and The Scooby-Doo Show. Was there more to talk about when it came to the quality? Or did you want to start delving more deeper into these characters? Either way, I do still enjoy the videos and I can't wait for the next addition to this series! Hopefully we can finally see some good scores... even with... HIM... as you put so well.
That's a great question. I originally started the Ranking Video series because I simply couldn't come up with a compelling topic for a Scooby video and it had been far too long between uploads. In all honesty, top ten lists are kind of the bottom rung of TH-cam content despite their popularity, but they're also a great way for a creator to break a writer's block. At the time, I only envisioned doing 'Where Are You?' and since I'd seen the episodes so many times by that point, it was difficult to view them from a fresh perspective, plus as they were the origin of the franchise, they've already been nearly talked about to death. However, once it became clear that the Villain Rankings proved popular for my viewers, I decided to continue. When I began 'The New Scooby-Doo Movies', I decided on the two villains per video format because each episode of that series was twice as long as the 'Where Are You' episodes were. I assumed (wrongly) that it would make for twice as much to discuss. After that, I kept up with doing two per episode because it kept the length under an hour. I never start out with the intention of speaking for 20-25 minutes per villain, but I often find myself hitting a stride while writing and that's how they end up. I've been considering, after reaching the end of 'The Scooby-Doo Show', to just do one villain per video, which would allow me to upload smaller videos but with more frequency. The stumbling block for that, though, is the furshlugginer 'Passive Aggressive Spoiler Warning' at the beginning. It's already hard enough to find a suitable film to "spoil", and doing one villain per episode would just mean I'd have twice the work on that part. I'm sincerely mulling over retiring that section, despite having some tell me how much they enjoy it. It's been a running gag that took on a life of its own at this point and possibly has outstayed its welcome. So, I guess we'll have to see what happens in the future, because I'm not quite sure yet myself. Thank you for the comment and for watching!
well to be fair my honda element is held together by chicken wire and spite, not cardboard. but the Mystery Machine is most likely made out of plastic.
40:00 I’m not too sure but I think the beast’s model gets reused in the opening credits scene of Legend of the Vampire, but I might be wrong. I think I’m getting Deja Vu with these openings or it could be amnesia kinda like the main character from Memento. Hanna-Barbera likes to reuse character models, I’m pretty sure the mounty and the unnamed henchman on the right are both just the guy who was the ghost of Dr. Coffin. I can’t wait for the Cyberchase video and the ones starring him.
@@Starpion88 And would later be featured in two stop motion short films (even though it's counted as two separate characters) and even be featured in a book adaptation/retelling of the original episode.
I'm working on 'Cyber Chase' as we speak, and I've got the episodes sourced for... THAT series. *shudder Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing! It really means a lot!
Looking after my neighbours dog after the neighbour has gone to hospital. Changing her water and food also taking on her walks but i dont let her take on mysteries. Good Dog Sitter ever?
Hey Joe what's up? Another great video. I never gave any thought to it before but Anthos does look like he belongs more in comic books than as a 1-off villain. He is yet another villain I didn't see til I was an adult. And frankly I personally was unimpressed. Honestly the hellhound was more scary looking than him. And an unoriginal scheme: convince someone they're going crazy so that they will somehow be forced to go away, and the villains will take over the property. Borrowing from the season 2 vampire episode and the Salem witch episode. And speaking of unoriginal plots, the Beast of Bottomless Lake. Why is it that every time the gang ends up in Canada they deal with a gold smuggling bad guy? But I did actually like the Beast and personally thought it was the best sea monster of the Scooby Doo Show(I don't consider the Gator Ghoul a sea/water monster as in that episode it spent virtually no time in any water). I had hoped it would get higher marks. But hey what can ya do lol? But hey I'm cool with the Moon Monster being the highest rated villain in season 3. Sadly no villain got a 4 or higher this season. Maybe that'll change in the next installment of the franchise. Well I gotta go for now and I'll look forward to your next video
Thank you for the kind words! I had forgotten most of the villains from this series, so despite having seen this show as a child, it's practically the same for me as it feels like I was an adult before seeing them for the first time. As much as they were borrowing from 'Hound of the Baskervilles', I almost wonder if the writers tossed the warlock in just to make their source inspiration less obvious. To be fair, there's a lot of gold produced in Canada, so the idea of gold smugglers is a good one to take advantage of that fact. I'm not holding out any hopes for any of the villains in the next series to surprise me, but then again, I felt the same way going into 'The New Scooby-Doo Movies' and it wasn't ALL terrible. 🤞 Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Thank you kindly for the enthusiasm! Next will by 'Cyber Chase' to round out the Scooby Renaissance followed by... *sigh... 'Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo'. Thank you so much for watching, commenting and supporting my channel! It means so much to me!
Anthos kinda looks like a heavy metal mascot, given this was the late 70s the early days of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement so I wouldn't be surprised if the thomas brothers listened a Black Sabbath album and went hey lets base our villian design off of this song
I was more into prog rock from that period, and for what it's worth, Anthos does look like the subject of one of those songs. King Crimson did sing about summoning back the fire witch, after all... Thanks for watching and commenting!
Oh boy, the Baseball twit is up next! My favorite little idiot. He and the Gators from Mystery Incorporated are the only ones I’d say come close to Carl the Stuntman levels of pointlessness and stupidity.
@ You might be able to get a cameo from Caddicarus if you asked. He’s the one responsible for that SPINDLY JOHNNY meme getting thrown around, from his Cyber Chase review.
@@TinkatonOCorviknightBodies Would be awesome but I'm unsure. First, I don't know if Caddy has the time to do a cameo for a small channel like Joe's. Second, Caddy dislikes most of his pre-2020 content so he might not be up to it.
Unpopular opinion: I really liked the first season of the "next series" you're going to review. Aside from a small downgrade in quality because of "him", it still felt like Scooby Doo for the most part, and I found many of the monsters and mysteries in that show to be quite memorable. Now if only it stayed that way...
To be honest, so did I. Going in to these rankings, I try to keep an open mind and look for positives whenever possible. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Oh man, don't make the same mistake I did. I watched this after bingeing a few hours of true crime podcasts and yeah, it's messing with my head quite a bit.
I've only seen a handful of the 'Guess Who!' series. It just didn't appeal to me. I feel like the writing and animation went downhill when they got to that series. I will eventually watch the entire run again from beginning to end, but it's unlikely I'd have been inspired by any of the episodes. Thanks for watching and commenting!

The running joke about Memento is a wonderful gag, especially for those who know the premise. Well done.
Do they still make Mementos, or are we back to using Tic Tacs to freshen breath?
What running joke...?
@ That’s odd… When did I leave a comment on this video?
It's honestly sad how many people still get Scotland and England confused. Great video as usual 😆
Absolutely love the intro bit, could not understand until now why you kept repeating, i genuinely thought i was developing amnesia.

@@JoeGoesOver it was... uh... what was I talking about?
Joe, was there not a similarly designed fish monster in "The Exterminator" episode from S2 of The New Scooby-Doo Movies? It was definitely a different colour but appeared during the indoor swimming pool scene.

Ohhh my GODDDDDD😲
I blame TYTD Reviews
I was giving this episode a second go-round and suddenly realized something when you mentioned how the Warlock of Anthos looks like a comic-book supervillain.
Anthos is an anagram of THANOS.
Somebody at Hanna-Barbara was ahead of their time. But who? That or it was just a strange coincidence that we can laugh about knowing what has come of it since then..
I can’t wait for the next series. I actually like Scrappy and how he always believed in Scooby, believing his acts of cowardice were simply tactical maneuvers.
i feel the same kinda i like Scrappy by the time of the three red shirt Shaggy movies and the thirteen ghost where i believe his at his best
@@andrewpeterson3201boo brothers is still a favorite of mine 😅
@@andrewpeterson3201 Yeah, I really love those movies. Putting that aside though, I hope the next series reviews doesn't just turn into Scrappy bashing. It's perfectly fine to complain about him in those videos and dislike his character, but I'm a little worried that it may pop up too often while he's around.
@@mikeike9742 true let's hope if there is a bashing it's more of a joke

All the more better since I outsourced the accent.
To be safe, I recorded the lines myself and... well, they were just the worst.
Worse even than Frank Welker's English accent.

The Lake Monster from the last episode of The Scooby-Doo Show reminded me of those Aquatic Sea Creatures from The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest episode Undersea Urgency.

The demonic canine looked far scarier than Anthos.
Despite the warlock not being scary I'm always an advocate for the monster incorporating potential violence & theatrics for gaslighting purposes when appropriate, and John & Nick succeed at doing that for the most part.

@JoeGoesOver Ohhhh I thought the crystal ball lady that read the tea leaves was a reference to her.
Thanks for the series Joe, many laughs and good moments!

First video of the year, thanks Joe as I needed this after catching a stomach bug on new years.
Great video as always Joe
Thank you so much for saying so! I really appreciate it!
And thanks for watching!
Great timing. Getting ready to make lunch. Now I have something to watch. Keep it up Joe!
I hope you brought enough for the rest of us...!
Yeah, that moment was a bad harbinger of silly moments yet to come.
Anthos’ design kinda reminds me of an old Marvel villain.
No kidding man, Anthos the warlock looks very stupid, more like a generic super villain than a Scooby Doo bad guy.
He reminded me of Diablo an old FF villain
You know, someone might have said that in the video... 😃
Thanks for watching and commenting!
The Beast of Bottomless Lake looks like a pike hybrid
I will take your word for it because, I'm sorry to say, I'm a bit of a fish bigot because they all the look the same to me.
Hot Take: the Pelton family really was cursed by that Warlock, since even a successful descendent still couldn’t hold onto the family manor even after sinking a fortune into it. Actually, the curse may have compelled him to purchase the old mansion and ruin what ever life he was building in his sports career.
Ooh, I like that take! Very clever!
Plans within plans and all that!

I am definitely begging for this and wonder if anyone else feels the same
Especially since we are approaching a less popular series I think would be a great time to work in some remake videos
Thanks Joe!
Joe Goes Over Remastered!
25:12 Goodness
32:32 Julie looking like 90s Daphne
40:55 I agree with that 100%. The OG Clash Of The Titans also comes to mind. If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about.
48:30 That's just cats in general. Of course spends a lot of time with a dog, so she probably wouldn't know that.
Time for Puppy Power.
Julie literally sounds like Velma though, they weren’t even trying to hide it.
The Warlock honestly looks like a He-Man villain lol
I spent the better part of five minutes trying to come up with a suitably homo-erotic name (to fit with the others in that toy/TV series), but gave up.
Probably a good idea.

@ No problemo. Can't wait for your next videos, although from here on for a while we probably aren't getting any monsters with high ranking given from what I've seen so far the Scrappy monsters are... eh.
It is how glasses work in cartoons. If you need glasses and frames in front of your eyes, they are your perception, even if there is no glass in them.
I wish real life worked like that. I'm constantly struggling with keep dust and smears off my own glasses! I'd love for them to be empty frames yet still improve my eyesight!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JoeGoesOver I think most people who need glasses wish it worked like that.

Have you spoiled the ending to "Dirty Mary Crazy Larry" yet?
I have been having a Ranking the Villain marathon on this snow day. I literally gasped "oh a new episode" when this video popped on my watch next list 😃!
Hah! I'm so happy to hear that!
This is what it's like for me when I'm binging Red Letter Media and then a new one randomly pops in my feed.
I can't tell you how much it means to me that, in my own little way, my channel is doing the same for others!
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing!
Love the content as always will the next film spoiler be Groundhog Day that would be a great bit
I almost feel like I did a 'Groundhog Day' spoiler warning, but then again, my memory isn't exactly the greatest.
Thanks for the kind words, and for watching and subscribing!
Don't know why, but I love the secret tunnel bit. It always makes me smile.😃
Thanks for the video ❤
Thanks for the comment! ♥
And the watch!
Great review! I especially enjoyed your impersonation of Mrs. Warren.
Oh no! The next series involves Crappy Doo!
Joe needs more views and thumbs up I love this series always a good day when I see a new episode
The Lake Beast was good enough to get a figure so there's that. I wish they would make more figures of monsters from The Scooby-Doo Show.
I actually really liked the two villains outfits, though I do agree the warlock was goofy af 😂but that's part of the charm for me~ But the fish monster, I think is wicked creepy, for scooby standards, Julie did a good job with that one, despite the lack of safety
Cannot wait for scrappy doo to get thrown into the mix HAHA until then
Dude, Anthos is **NOT** a ghost 👻 or a monster 👹. He’s just Dick Dastardly’s goofy twin brother.

In a book adaptation of the episode, Julie (who was given the last name Johnson) ran her own shop near bottomless lake and she planned to scare people away so they could go buy more equipment at her store and she would make even more money.

Kind of is a 'Crisis Monday' over here, but Joe going over some Scooby always makes the day better
Sorry to hear you were having a bad day. Hopefully it all sorted out by now!

The sea monster is actually reused in a game later on, Scooby Doo Unmasked. Just gets a recolor, but in a way. It still DOES wind up being reused evetually. ^^;
Hey Joe just finished the episode I'm just curious, Are you gonna tackle another of the movies before going into the next series?
Yes, he's doing Cyber Chase first before delving into the series that stars...
HIM
@TrocaTheNero that's good because yeah the next series is really unwatchable because of him...
As it says above, 'Cyber Chase' is next and then... *sigh
A biting cat is better than a scratching one.
Jimmy is also wearing yellow and blue, the colors of the swedish flag. Might be a reference to swedish tennis star Björn Borg.
Maybe Julie had Air Supply on an 8-track in her suit....
@JoeGoesOver you're welcome Joe. Hopefully 2025 is a much kinder year for you than 2024 was.
2024 was basically Carl the Stuntman in year form.
Good luck with the Scrappy era
Thank you for saying so.
Something tells me I'm going to need it.
And thanks for watching and subscribing!

34:16 Woah! That gold bar has turned white for a split-moment.
It looks a bit like a fake rubber monster that pops out in the Batman episode of New Scooby Doo movies.
The Beast from Bottomless Lake reminded me of a statue in the video game Scooby Doo Unmasked on Gamecube
Now that this series is finished. What was your favorite episode rewatching all of them?
Also can’t wait for the next series :)
15:20 I wonder if today's mocap technology would've made what the pelton's did with Jimmy's glasses possible?
The swamp monster did look scary
What's scary is Jodie the Pig's eyes in the window!
I wasn't lying that it still almost makes me **** my pants this many years later!

All I can do is wish you the best of luck when they try to cram mysteries into the 11 minute segments. There wasn’t enough time to spit in those.
To pelt is to hit people with stuff. It's something like pelting people with tennis balls.
Worst. Dodgeball Game. Ever.

The Memento “passive aggressive spoiler” is the best running gag since Decade! 😂
1:30 Don't let a Scot hear you say that.
I see a fanfiction working really well if they did come up with a masterminding criminal organization. Maybe Dr Zin from Johnny Quest. Also do you think if when any of these Scooby villains get out of jail they would call the gang for help if they're framed for a crime in the future?
I always tought that the Warlock of Wimbledon's outfit looked like a bad transmog from World of Warcraft.
@@JoeGoesOverUnderstandable. Whatever you decide to do with your channel, I’ll continue watching! These videos are entertaining to watch regardless.
well to be fair my honda element is held together by chicken wire and spite, not cardboard. but the Mystery Machine is most likely made out of plastic.
It does not. Although the costume does appear in the video game Scooby-Doo: Unmasked.

I was going to ask if Anthos’ pet dog was a distant ancestor of Scooby, but after seeing that the dog was wearing a disguise, I decided no he wasn’t.
@@aliciaclarke-olen3712, you thought that thing was related to Scooby? 😂

Unpopular opinion: I really liked the first season of the "next series" you're going to review. Aside from a small downgrade in quality because of "him", it still felt like Scooby Doo for the most part, and I found many of the monsters and mysteries in that show to be quite memorable. Hi joe! For the beast you could've been thinking about the villain from episode 3 of Scooby Doo & Guess who! From 2019 (:
I've only seen a handful of the 'Guess Who!' series. It just didn't appeal to me. I feel like the writing and animation went downhill when they got to that series. I will eventually watch the entire run again from beginning to end, but it's unlikely I'd have been inspired by any of the episodes.
