Constructive cricriticism here...I would like to state a few things that are missing from this video. Tools are fine, method could use a little more work, information is completely lacking. There are 2 disbudders that are commercially availible for goats, this one is the lower powered option, which DOES require a longer burn time. The Rhinehart X50 requires a considerably shorter contact time, especially when using the buck tip, which gets more surface area contact. This should be mentioned to prevent 'brain burn'. Speaking of brain burn, the treatment is Dexamethazone (RX). The window of time for the administration of Dex is very narrow from the onset of symptoms. This item MUST be on hand BEFORE disbudding kids to reduce brain swelling and death. The 'tetanus shot' is also incredibly vague. There is CDT (vaccine), and Tetanus Antitoxin. The latter is currently on USA nationwide shortage, and also should be on hand BEFORE disbudding. The vaccine induces an immune response for clostridium periferinges types C and D, as well as a Tetanus vaccine, but it takes 3 weeks to ilicit that response, and takes the second dose (booster) another 3 weeks before the animal is completely protected. The ANTITOXIN is for immediate response/protection from tetanus. The entire 5cc bottle must be administered per animal, regardless of age or size. The kids should be monitored for several hours following the procedure for lethargy, fever, 'stargazing', and other off behavior that would indicate something is amiss and needs to be remedied. Very glad that this is working for you, but to be a more complete and informative video, the full details regarding all possible outcomes should be explained so that others do not end up in a grave situation.

I like to add been doing it for 20 years this way with no problem and we have never used dex because if your disbudding for that long to have that kind of problem your doing it wrong and have seen vets do it wrong. Just my opinion
20 years also in raising Toggenburg dairy goats and 10 on Boer goats. I myself have never had the NEED for it, but have seen it in happen when the facts of the process are shortened. We aren't talking about a 'sunburn', this is a 3rd degree burn that kills nerve cells, an 800° iron applied for 10 seconds, then reapplied...1200° with the x50 on a warm day. TIME and TYPE Amy friend. I have seen vets do it wrong too. ..2 weeks of small ruminant courses as opposed to months of large.
I see that the constructive criticism is not being taken as intended....or that you can't handle the fact that these things CAN happen, and it is best to be prepared. I don't have a video...I don't work my channel...just use it, because there is never a time to stop learning, no matter how long you have been in the industry. I also never said this was the WRONG WAY to do it. Might be better to put away the snarky fangs and make yourself look like the bigger man, Jason.
With many years of doing it have never had a problem of doing the way I do with no problem so must be doing something right.
And on top for what you said when making a video you can’t go on and on people what to know how to do it. You are not allowed to go into details of what meds you use I have been using the one I have for years with no problem.
