Anyone who got one of the multitude of remote control cars that were advertised for doing "sick stunts and tricks" feels your original disappointment because none of them were as cool as the commercials.
@@bulgogi19 Hell yeah. That thing was amazing. Damn near indestructible, too. Remember trying to hydroplane it across a puddle and it made it halfway before sinking almost completely. Still drove all the way out and worked for years after.
Yup, I still remember when I got my 1st RC car. The problem was that I assumed RC only meant radio controlled & not remote controlled. It turned out to be a New Bright model with a corded remote. You had to walk behind it which was really easy on account of how slow it was. That’s when I learned to pay more attention to what I was asking for 😂
My toy was those moon shoes they advertised, my mom got them for me at Christmas, we put them together, and God it fucking sucked, couldn't get any good air.
I got a glow in the dark mostly transparent fushigi ball from a commercial after begging my mom for it, only for it to arrive with a very visible core that made the illusion basically impossible because you could see it spinning around, and it had no instructions for how to do tricks (and this was before i knew how to find it online). They arrived, i used it for about 30 minutes, and then never touched it again.
*_WHAAAAAT?!_* _You mean to inform me that the RC trick car from radioshack_ that I *LUSTED* after as an 8 year old but never got could not in fact do the things the _rad as heck_ commercial showed?! for shame.
For what its worth, this kind of weird unfiltered shit is what I’ve always loved about your content and personality. I remember a while back the worry of not making perfect content made posting hard and intimidating, but truth is the real fans like this kinda stuff. Ive been tuned outta your world for a while cuz i didn’t know this account existed, but I’m glad i found it. Nice to see your out doing new stuff
I did the same thing when I was little with Steven Spielberg's bit in the dvd extras for Back to the Future. Dude literally held up a hoverboard and told the camera "Oh yeah getting these for the film was no problem, you can just get them at Home Depot." I called every Home Depot I could find but none of them had one 😞
That one alien looking toy that could go on any surface including water and side step with those screw tracks was actually pretty spot on in advertising. Loved that thing
my twins are about the same age as potato so watching these vlogs is like a wonderful escape from the endlessly looping days spent caring for them, until potato rocks up and i'm reminded what my life has become
ELRS seems like a wildly overkill solution for this application. Might be fun to replace the entire drive assembly with high performance brushless motors and stuff a 4s battery in there. THEN it would perforn like the commercial. For a few minutes before it fell apart.
I remember getting insanely hyped about some boat toy that looked similiarly futuristc and gimicky. Long story short, it slowly sank until me and my dad couldn't see it anymore. Now it's on the bottom of some small lake

i feel like cartoon network and g4 spammed these ads for like 2 decades straight. thanks for answering questions my 5 year old self always wondered about
I had this toy and I liked it. It was also way easier to do wheelies with it than what was shown in this video because the original nimh battery was way heavier than the lipo battery you used which shifted the cg back.
I came back after a little break of watching this channel and bro you have a kid?!?? That’s insane. I feel like my childhood is all grown up now 😭 I just graduated high school and you and your friends seriously guided me into majoring mechanical engineering as my college major. Cheers man, growing with you has been fun.
I shared my experience of desiring this very toy with my Bible study and EVERY dude in the group remembered not only the commercial but my exact feeling.
This would be an incredible series. Only instead of just showcasing a toy from your past that disappointed you, you could "save" them. As in try to make them live up to your precious expectations.
Perfect timing, went to grab snack for full viewing experience, on way to fridge saw mesquito on wall and squashed it, this mesquito was surely carrying deadly viruses and would have bitten me in my sleep. William you have saved my life.
Dang, Applied Science is gonna be at open sauce? I love that guy. I always forget he exists for like a year, and then he comes back with another 10/10 video.
I had this as a kid, pestered my parents for weeks to get it for my birthday after seeing that exact ad on tv during dragonball Z...it never worked even as well as you showed. Never mind the waiting for 8 hrs to charge it then it would work for 10 minutes. Ahh memories.
Only 2 decent wallmart spec fun cars from our childhood that could do close to what was in the commercials was the Tyco Fast Traxx (It actually ripped, flipped, did mad skids and took abuse) and the Tyco Typhoon Hovercraft (seriously fun in a house with hard floors.)
Remember the rc motorcycle that could only be used ONCE? i bought and retutned it like 4 times, each time i charged it, failed at driving it, and it would die and just not work.
This was therapeutic, I had wanted one of these so bad and got one for Christmas and was massively disappointed....so nice to see it with some real power!!!
A fun thing you could try is put ferrocerium rods on it. It's a safe special effect, some bikers put it on their feet and stuff to get sparks against asphalt.
Bought an rc car when i was a kid that was "all terrain " like drove on rocks, sand ,water the works. That was when i learned adverts were a lie and if something is described as being able to do everything, it means it does nothing well :'(
Anyone who got one of the multitude of remote control cars that were advertised for doing "sick stunts and tricks" feels your original disappointment because none of them were as cool as the commercials.
There was one called Psycho which I remember being actually pretty awesome
Nuh uh.
I had a "Tyco Stuntsters Air Rebound" and that shit was absolute fire!!
You're right...the Tyco Rebound was even cooler than the commercials lol
The tyco hijacker was sick. Best rc car I had as a kid.
@@bulgogi19 Hell yeah. That thing was amazing. Damn near indestructible, too. Remember trying to hydroplane it across a puddle and it made it halfway before sinking almost completely. Still drove all the way out and worked for years after.
I like it when William has to be reminded by his loved ones that he is in fact an electrical engineer.
4:18 - Soldering batteries together with DE-soldering wick is galaxy brain stuff.
How tf
@@Kryszthatflufboidesoldering wick just tends to wick soler into itself, it's just a braid of copper wires
Better question though...
I've done exactly this with lipo cells for my RC cars. It works great.
We all had this experience, maybe not with the same toy, but it has always happened. Im sorry for young Will's disappointment

7:55 William the type of dad to make his kid watch him play with the new toys lol
Is that not just every dad? They get to have a go for putting it together/putting in the batteries.
@@batt3ryac1di know when i have kids "we" are gonna build a lot of lego sets
This seems like the perfect candidate for some military level of intervention on its design.

*This guy has been holding a grude for 24 years*
I am grude.
Grude - Sandstorm
Fortunately during that 24 years his knowledge of electronics has grude substantially.
Grude, where's my car?
Digging for grude oil 🛢️
Potato calmly watching while desiccant packets are taken out of their dad's mouth really sets the stage for their whole life
What’s up William!?
Hell yeah Michael
hey william osman 2 there's this guy pretending to be you on youtube his channel is called william osman you should probably seek action

I spent every last cent I had for a RC boat; first launch it sunk into the deepest part of Lake Arrowhead. I feel your pain!
thank you for staying till 4am, it was actually really satisfying seeing it working
I can only hope to have a friend like Kevin one day. Like, what a positive, helpful, supportive dude.

Say what you will about battery chemistry... I grew up during the NiCad era, so NiMH was life-changing. Was.

It's like they sped up the footage a ton and somehow that's not false advertising.

imagine if William invented a life-sized version of this
All this work just to duct tape a knife to it and feed it to a 3lb combat robot at Open Sauce.
