    I’m from Russia, I’ve been living in the USA for 7 years, I bought myself a BMW X3 Copart at an auction with a mechanical problem, I need will fix the engine, I watched a lot of videos on Russian-speaking TH-cam, there’s nothing like it, this set of videos is the best of all on TH-cam, even though I’m bad I understand English, but still images are the most valuable thing here and everything becomes clear, thank you very much!
    I would add spare part numbers for this engine to your videos in the description, many people do this and it is very useful.

    Will part 5 come? My 5.20 n20 1.6 engine stopped while driving on the road and did not give any warning, the engine does not turn, the tow truck went to the service, it has not been disassembled yet, it may cause a malfunction, my vehicle has 192 000 km.

      Hi there,
      At the end of the series I always include a full parts list. Unfortunately I am a bit behind in my videos so that final episode won't be posted for at least another few weeks. A good place to start would be to check out the FCP Euro timing chain kit. You can find it for better prices if you shop around for individual parts, but that should help give you an idea. Good luck!

    Nice work! I did an N20 timing chain + turbo replacement on a manual 328i at my shop a few months ago, and this brings back some memories. Much more annoying to do all of this in the car, I will say.
    Side note, have you done any work/owned some older BMW's? Much easier to work on, and in my opinion, better driving cars overall. I'm talking E39, E36, E34, E32, E28, etc.

    • @bimmer.doctor
      @bimmer.doctor  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! Yes, having done both ways, it's definitely a lot easier working on an engine stand than in the car...
      I haven't really had the opportunity to work on those nice older classics. The problem is where I live (Montreal), by the time the cars get that old, they are usually in such bad shape rust wise it's not worth anything even after a full mechanical rebuild. Definitely something I want to tackle one day though!

  • @tp8085

    Do you have any idea how to hook up the evap system there sure isn't one single video on the N20? I've hooked it all up except one of the evap lines and have absolutely no clue where it goes. It's the long one in the back of it that curls like underneath. Don't see any plug for it. Is there a hose for it I'm not seeing?

    • @tp8085
      @tp8085 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Never mind I found it. It was the evap line that kind of runs under the car by the driver floor board.

    • @bimmer.doctor
      @bimmer.doctor  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Normally an oil pump doesn’t really need to be aligned, but this one has the balance shaft built in so the engine will run very rough.

  • @DavidWendel
    @DavidWendel 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Question, are the bolt on the oil pump torque to yield or can they be reused? I know the oil pump sprocket bolt is one time use but can't seem to find this info anywhere.

      @@bimmer.doctor One more question for you, I plan on doing the rod bearings while the oil pan is removed. My thinking is that I will replace the timing chain and oil sump chain and torque the harmonic balancer bolt but leave off the oil sump sprocket bolt. This will allow me to rotate the crank to do the bearings while keeping the top end timed. I will then change the bearings, put the engine back in time with the tool and put the sump back on so it is in time as well. Does this sound correct to you and/or would there be anything else you would do differently?

    • @bimmer.doctor
      @bimmer.doctor  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes sir, that would work perfectly. That way you know everything is in time and you don't have to worry while turning it over. Then you can reinstall the oil pump when you're done the bearings. Good luck!
