Nineteen minutes and thirty one seconds of bliss. The animations, narrations, music and cinematography flowed so well together. You could've kept this to yourself but instead you went through the hard work of capturing it all on video and creating this masterpiece. Thank you for your hardwork. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
First off, the animated intro was absolutely gorgeous!! Secondly...I started my Alaska Journey in March of 1992...riding the Matanuska Ferry from Bellingham, WA to Haines, AK. I then drove the remainder of the way to Fort Wainwright just outside of Fairbanks in my 1987 Toyota SR-5 pickup! Wow, I started reliving a lot of fond memories that awoke watching your awesome video! Unlike you guys, I am still loving and enjoying every moment here in Alaska...in March 2022, it will officially be 30 years! Thank you very much for the awesome work you do to share your adventures. I look always look forward to your videos...Cheers!
The opening graphics are gorgeous. I paused the end credits just to look up who did them. Owen's a great talent and you gave him great direction. It perfectly suits the series and elevates it from a collection of TH-cam video to a miniseries.
Good morning from an Alaskan that hasn't been to Alaska in years...what a blessing to be able to see Juneau, the city of my birth....I'm a Tlingit...born and raised in Alaska...I'm now residing in Newark, NJ, if you can believe that...I'll be watching your channel with renewed interest...if to only see....the Motherland...the home of the raven...
The old Matanuska! Hopefully you know the history of that grand old vessel. For years, these vessels operated out of pier 48 in Seattle. The Matanuska, the Malaspina, the Columbia! - It wouldn't be right if at least one wasn't still running. I remember when the Malaspina and the Matanuska had major overhauls and were lengthened by 50- 60 feet. One of our oldest Alaska Marine Highway vessels is still plying the seas. The "Tusty" - MV Tustumena - is our oldest Open-ocean rated ferry, and still primarily provides service between Homer and Kodiak Alaska - with stops in between. It has made seasonal runs down the Aleutian Chain, and occasionally fills in where a vessel of its class is sometimes needed; primarily when other vessels require maintenance. The MV kennicott is our newest open-ocean rated vessel. The Tustumena is now scheduled to be replaced, and I wonder how much longer the Matanuska will continue to serve us. I'm glad you had a chance to experience an important part of Alaska's post 64 quake history!
Oh I do know all of this actually! Tuesday we have an episode about the ferry and how to take it and I learned a lot of what you just said while doing me research of the ferry system as a whole!
I have lived in the PNW most of my 53 years. (5 Years I lived in Vegas due to the recession) I had no idea this ferry existed. Thank you for the history. 🥰
@@DempsterDave I come and and from Homer Harbor on a regular basis - passing right by the Tusty when she in in Port, and I used to ride her to Kodiak on occasion. It'd always nice to see her. She has had a long and successful career because of the TLC she has received. I'm going to hate seeing her go. Kind of like the Bartlett.
I have been subscribed to you guys for over 2 years now, and this is one of the best videos yet. Absolutely breathtaking! We have been planning on living on the road for a while now. We plan to make the big move in 2025. Keep up work, this is eye candy to the max!
Nice! Best video you guys have done that I've seen... incredible amount of editing and thought went in to it, I can tell haha. Looking forward to your AK series. Ran into you guys in the REI parking lot in Anchorage and handed you a flyer for the festival I was throwing (Six Mile Creek Whitewater & Bluegrass Festival near Hope)... ya'll were busy talking to an older fella in the parking lot and didn't wanna fanboy so I left ya'll alone lol. Maybe pass ya on the road, leaving Vegas area in the truck house and driving back to Alaska at the end of December:)
this is so gorgeous. it astounds me that more people haven't found you yet. compared to other travel/van life/on the road youtubers your videos are just so thoughtful, beautiful and well curated. its such a pleasure and a privilege to follow along on your journeys. i am so looking forward to the rest of the series. keep up the fantastic work!
You are so kind. I will say that we don't fit in well to the type of videos that the algorithms like that push videos to people, and we know it, but this is the kind of videos we like to make. So we will keep doing things the way that feels the most fulfilling to us.
I am sorry to say I missed the premiere by a day, but I must join with the other comments that give this a WOW! without reservation. I follow 300 or so content creators, and probably watch 2 or 3 hours of YT content daily. This episode set a new standard for what is quality. Your content is always superb. However, the opening music segment, and especially the maps of Alaska, suggested this was going to be extra special. But then that opening animation sequence. Followed by the pacing, coloring, composition, narration. The list goes on. And the added treat of the closing animated constellations. You spoil us. Thank you so. I and many others need something so special in these times. Christmas came early this year.
"You spoil us" might be the best compliment yet. We really wanted to do our best to see a notable improvement in our work this year. I think it might be paying off. Happy you are here to enjoy!
The porpoise joke made me spit my coffee out! This is a incredible work. The production quality is amazing. I've followed you guys for a long time and it's been to be part of the journey.
Wow. I was born and raised in Juneau, and I moved to Seattle in 2015, and your videos are amazing, you've got me crying missing home so badly. You captured Juneaus beauty so well🙏🙏💝💝
Ha, this is how we went to Alaska in '74 ('75????) I always say my Dad was so cheap we slept on deck with the hippies, five little Mormon sleeping bags in a row. What an adventure it was as this was the start of a week in a wilderness cabin out of Juneau. Then a move to AK. Thank you for bringing it all back. Beautiful work. Mrs. Merly
Loved this! We lived inSitka for many years and the Alaska Marine highway was the ONLY way to travel. Our kids traveled often for school events, my husband traveled for work and we went to Juneau twice a year to shop. Back in the day we got boats at least twice a week, now it is not even monthly. Sad for a landlocked town. Your films are spectacular.
Wow. Wow. And wow!!! There is no words!!! This needs to be a tv show. Show this to National Geographic if you haven’t already!!!! Just amazing!! So proud of you both!! Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
Simply amazing! Enjoyed each and every moment of this. We cannot wait to watch this series as it unfolds as Alaska is definitely on our to do list. Thanks to you and Owen for taking us along!
Saw your channel just now, hit subscribe and the like button before the video had even started. Also, watched all the way through your opening credits, which I rarely do with other channels, most impressive animation. I used to take the ferry down to the lower 48 when I worked up in Alaska back in the 1980's. Each trip was uniquely special. I would meet the most interesting folk on the boat. It was always a great party heading south in the late summer/early fall. Rarely have I seen video or photos do justice of the inland passageway. But you guys nailed it. It brought back great memories. Thank you. I look forward to more content.
Absolutely incredible job guys! Looks as if it was done by a high dollar production crew! Beautiful!! I would have to say Professional documetry film makers!!
I randomly ran across this video today as I am planning a ferry trip from Bellingham to Juneau in September as part of an Alaska trip. I'm totally blown away! As others below have conveyed, this is the pinnacle of travel videos in every way. You really capture the spirit of adventure and travel. What a find! I'll be watching all of your videos and look forward to following your adventures in the future.
Brilliantly executed on every single front. I am SO BLOWN AWAY and cannot wait for this series to progress. The animations in the intro, outrageous. Shots of wildlife, insane. Vanilla pudding, fomo inducing! hahahaha, you guy, seriously have outdone yourselves
What an amazing journey and what an excellent video you have put together. Keep up the good work. A lot of learning for me in your video. #adventureswithAdeel
BEAUTIFUL imagery, transitions, editing. Story telling+. I've lived in Seattl the paast 42yr; never thought about visiting Alaska. Until now. This vlog SOLD me on it; THANK YOU.
One of my first jobs at a convenience store more than 30 years ago we weighed boxes of Jeno’s Pizza Rolls with an electronic scale to see which had the most on our break. I love Alaska and your first two videos of this series. Keep up the fantastic work.
I wish we had known about these ferry trips back when we went on two expensive inside passage cruises. Your videos of the landscape from the ferry look a lot better than what I remember of the more distant views from the cruise ship. I have always been more about beautiful views and less crowding than about excessive cruise ship meals and large crowds of passengers all eager to go on shore at the same time. And to be able to bring our Jeep with us and then go exploring, at our own pace, at the end of the first ferry trip would have been the perfect way to see wildlife before doing the return trip.
Moved to Juneau in 1981 as a young man of nineteen. Southeast Alaska is truly a very special place. Your imagery has has done it justice, can’t wait for the next installment. As an old sea kayaker I wish I had a dollar for every night returning home and sleeping on a ferry sun deck. Thanks for sharing.
Love it! I used to live in Juneau but now in WA state. A few years ago, I took to the Inside Passage via the Alaska Marine highway, which is something I had wanted to do for years. It was so much fun! Thank you for sharing your experience and taking me back :)
That brought back some memories. My wife and I spent our honeymoon on the back deck of an Alaskan ferry. We opted for a couple of lawn chairs instead of a tent which was fantastic. The beauty of that trip is indescribable. Your videos are top notch. Love it love it love it. Thank you
In the almost 20 years in Alaska, I only road the ferries in-state for work. My job never sprung for a cabin. The last time I left Alaska to relocate to the Lower 48, I rented a cabin. It was awesome! The cabin was well worth the cost. Plus, the food on the AMHS (Alaska Marine Highway System) is outstanding.
It's super fun watching such lovely people discover the beauty and magic of the Northwest coast. It has a certain lure to those who love the outdoors. I bet you fit like a glove while you were passing through.
Well that was more than worth the wait! As I’m unable to travel long distances or at altitude for the foreseeable future I feel very fortunate that you are sharing your travels with us. I’ve never heard of the ship that allows tent camping, what a great idea for everyone. Hope we get to have another 3am chat via the comments some time down the road. 😁 Stay Hungry.
OK sign me up! What a way to start a journey! You two are kicking this off the right way! Always a good sign when you need duck tape to start, lmao! The cookie pudding, brown stuff looked good.
Loved this video. This is something I really want to do. Out of curiosity, when did you take the ferry? The video was uploaded 7 months ago but I imagine you took it in the summer according to the weather in the video!
I am obsessed! I had goosebumps for the entirety of this video last week, and its been on my mind ever since! I came back to to leave a comment and couldnt help, had to watch it again, just as good as the first time! absolutly incredible!
Beautiful! Ductape fixes everything! A must have in any gear bag. Ferry to Juneau...I see another ferry in your future. 20 years ago we did the cruise to Alaska. Best cruise ever! Saw all kinds of wildlife. Now I want to do it again.
I always love your series, this is no exception. I really loved the illustrations and animations in the beginning, it really set the tone of the video nicely. This was so calming. Can't wait to see the rest of this series. Cheers!
My hometown, Bellingham! And stopping in my other former hometown, Petersburg. Lovely trip that I’ve been able to do 4 times. I also lived in Uganik Bay, Kodiak Island, and Seward. So much wilderness that you get excited to see some villages!
Amazing! You guys should have a show on the discovery channel. I have been to Alaska and took the MArine Hwy at other places but going from Bellingham to Juneau looks beautiful. Love your channel! SO well done I find myself being lost in your adventure.
I normally watch your content while at work on my phone or work pc. But this was such high quality I had to watch it at home with my higher quality setup! Great content.
Mesmerizing. Absolutely stunning video. The editing, stunning b-roll, perfectly timed narrating and blissful pace of this video feels like a dream. Bravo.
This is literally the best editing I have ever seen in a overland style video.

You could've kept this to yourself but instead you went through the hard work of capturing it all on video and creating this masterpiece. Thank you for your hardwork. Agree- are we watching TH-cam or am I at the Sundance Film Festival?
Stepping it up! Quality with the graphics, animation, and story telling. Can tell the effort your putting in 👍
Thank you so much! We appreciate that. Owen is a motion graphics designer so we felt it was high time for him to flex his muscles

When I was 18 I camped on the ferry for 3 days up to Petersburg to work the fishing docks. Was a huge transition in my life from kid to adult.
Thats amazing! What a special way to get to such a remarkable place

Wow, thank you so much! It's fun (and scary) to look back and see our own progression. Hopefully there is only up from here!
I watched the first 20 seconds on my phone and immediately ran into my living room to watch this on my TV. Now that's quality!
