I've always machine-washed my cashmere sweaters. If I had to handwash them, I don't think they would ever get washed haha. And I think it's quite easy to over-agitate them if you do it by hand. I put each sweater in a good mesh laundry bag and wash on a delicate cycle in cold water with a cashmere-friendly detergent. I dry them on a drying rack and try to get them across a few bars so they're not just folded in half. Works great! I've never tried ironing them (maybe I will now!), but I do use a cashmere comb.
I appreciate your explanation. I finally found the right version of Woolite. I'm afraid I dissolved old wool sweaters and socks with regular detergent that has enzymes in the past. No more of that or spot remover. The one challenge I'm having is removing coffee stains from a treasured long coat in light grey. There must be a better soap that is good on coffee. I'm wondering what you think of regular liquid Castile soap like Dr. Bronners? I use an old washer that doesn't give the spin speed. I just used gentle cycle for a few minutes with a blanket. Then I spun it on regular, which is super fast. When I took it out, it had so little moisture remaining that it was light enough to hang outside on the line. No stretching occurred. I'm just concerned about possible damage from it squeezing so hard. I'm guessing that shouldn't be an issue for any wool garment? The smaller ones get hand washed now.

I normally wash my wool shirts by hand in a 5 gallon bucket, rinse and use the spin cycle to "squeeze" or spin off the water. I didn't know if that was ok because I remember reading somewhere to spin on gentle cycle. Do you think it matters with more delicate Marino or base layers?
@@preacherman9018 we can’t speak for merino but with cashmere, a fast spin (1200rpm) is best as you need to get the water out - cashmere being sat in water is what causes shrinkage!

just bought an amazing looking cashmere sweater a month ago, wanted it so bad i ended up getting an XL although i’m actually a Large. sleeves were too long so i ended up taking it to a tailor for alterations to the sleeves. got it back and looks and feels great but i wouldn’t mind shrinking it a bit. any tips on how and what temperature i should wash it at and can i put it in the dryer? i’m sure if it’s wet and thrown in the dryer it could shrink it significantly and/or actually damage it. great video.
We wouldn’t recommend shrinking cashmere or putting in the dryer as it could shrink it to far. We would recommend following the instructions in this video and seeing how it feels.😁 Hope this has helped.
We use fabric softener when washing all of our jumpers and they do really well with it! We agree you don't need to put a lot in and some laundry detergents don't need it.

I am so sorry. I know how you feel. I had a little roommate who took liberties with my cashmere sweater too. She had the nerve to move her kids in too. When I finally found out where those moths were coming from, it was too late. It was swiss cheese.

We wash thousands of jumpers a year and have never had this problem! It could have been the temperature was a little too warm, not quite sure why your scarf came out stiff!
@@Beany-bean oh dear, 45 minutes is a bit longer than we would recommend and some machines aren’t always perfectly accurate with their temperatures. Do you have a European washing machine or a top loader?
I always machine wash cashmere using a wool & silk detergent, this is PH neutral, doesn’t have any enzymes, bleaches or optical brighteners in, biological detergent shouldn’t be used on Wool or Silk Garments as the enzymes can digest and eat the proteins that the garment is made from. I use the Woollens cycle at 30°C on my Miele machine and reduce the spin down to 900rpm. Fabric conditioner is optional, a small amount is okay as to not make the garments feel too greasy.
Gobi Cashmere items hands down were the worst company I've bought from. Dry cleaners locally agreed and I'll never hand wash it. Bubbling, and losing shape after 1 wash. What a nightmare with customer services as well.

Unfortunataly I did wash my 100 kashmir scarf at 600 rpm and falting did happen 😐😭 Unfortunately it also stinks after the chemical washing fluid perfume ? 🫤 What can I do to regain the original shape and remove the chemical washing smell ? I do appreciate any help please
Oh dear, was it a hot wash? I'm not sure what's gone wrong. You can't reverse shrinkage but some people have told us that they soak in softener and stretch out and this can help. Such a shame!

Never use fabric conditioner on cashmere as it leaves a coating on the fibres which can cause them to stiffen and shorten their life.
