- I give my reaction to Russian teen DIANA ANKUDINOVA's (Диана Анкудинова) cover of the Chris Isaak song WICKED GAME. This was her performance on the show You Are Super! (Ты супер!) This is my first time listening to this live performance.

Thank you for the great reaction. Diana Ankudinova is truly a stellar performer and it is wonderful to see new people discovering her. Her songs on this show were all staged fantastically, as well. If you want to see the really standout performance here, definitely watch Rechenka (The River). It is in Russian and is a ritual song about a young orphan bride who is being forced to marry someone she doesn't love. She goes to the river to commune with the spirit of her dead mother and ask for advice. It shows her vocal range even more than this does and is probably one of the more unique performances you will ever hear. As for the video being blocked, unfortunately that happens with lots of videos, as you will find more and more often as you keep reacting. Your overlay is a much better solution than many that I have seen other reactors use. And as long as you keep the links to the original performance, as you did here, people new to the performance can always watch that on their own. It's OK about the video, I know this performance by heart! Like Angelina Jordan, this young extremely talented young lady is a world shaker! She has performed in Russian, English, French, Spanish and occasionally German - maybe more I haven't heard yet. Her back story is incredible as you will read in some other comments here I'm sure. Suffice to say she is a survivor and has the determination and talent to become an international superstar - and knowing Diana she will get there. I have watched performances from her as young as 5yo and you can tell, she was born to be on the big stage. Great reaction SJ. You are in danger of joining her many other addicts - but it's a good addiction! :) :)

Hi Shane - great reaction to Diana. You are right, this is a singing competition in Russia, called "You Are Super" designed to promote the talents of disadvantaged children. Diana appeared twice on the show, firstly in 2018 and again in 2019 (the 2019 show was a "Grand Prix" in which previous winners & finalists were invited back). Diana won both years - "Wicked Game" was her second song from the 2019 event. She is now 17 & will be 18 on the 31st May.

Congrats on being one of the only Western TH-cam reactors on TH-cam to pronounce Diana's name correctly!! This competition was called "You Are Super." It was a show for orphans or other state sponsored children. Diana won twice. She is 14 years old in this performance and is now 17. The story of her childhood, and eventual adoption, not being able to speak, and taking voice lessons in hopes she would, is a real tear jerker. She sings in Russian, English, and French fluently. Diana has something primal, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and she lives her songs. Diana is a dramatic alto, the rarest alto type. Dimash is the universe, but Diana is the earth, our home ... and when you hear her voice you feel like she has wrapped you in a warm velvet blanket and served you a mug of hot, dark chocolate. Every song is a unique experience, it captivates you, you feel bound by magic.
Diana was born May 2003. 31 in Arsenyev in the Far East Russia. She didn't have a happy start in life. The woman who gave birth to her, had 12 pregnancies, only Diana survived... and she did not love her child, mistreated her severely and tried to drown her. Relatives found the child with a broken collarbone in the street and took the 3-year-old girl to a children's home shortly thereafter. Finally, there she found love... from Irina Ponik, who worked as a massage therapist and treated children from the orphanage. Irina Ponik and her daughter Nastya fell in love with Diana. Taking a child into the family was of course not easy for Irina ... Of course, taking a child into the family was not easy for Irina but she became her 'mother' when Diana was 5 years. Diana now lives in a poor but loving family.
Diana spoke badly but sang all the songs from cartoons. An acquaintance of her mother, a musician, noticed that Diana had a perfect pitch and advised her to take singing lessons. So Diana took lessons from the singing teacher Elena Anatolyevna Kazantseva, who discovered Diana's talent. And so it all started ...
The Arseniev period lasted from the end of 2008 to September 2012. During this time Diana sang around 40 songs, including at competitions.
Diana's mother became her daughter's manager, she found the addresses of music competitions, negotiated with the organizers and selected a repertoire. Everything that has to do with Diana's singing training, performances and competitions is organized and coordinated by her mother Irina Ponik. She is looking for sponsors because flights are expensive and took extra sewing courses. Since then she's been sewing all of Diana's stage costumes, because all of these things consume the family budget. She accompanies her daughter on trips and captures her life in photos and videos with the persistence of a visionary.
After winning a competition in Moscow, Diana's mother was offered to leave the girl in a boarding school for gifted children. She refused and in 2012 moved with her small family to her hometown of Toglyatti, much closer to Moscow. Diana now also has a grandma and has also lost her fear that the woman who gave birth to her would kidnap her.
2013-2015 Diana played in the theater studio of Dmitry Marfin, director of children's programs at the Togliatti Philharmonic Society, whom Diana valued as 'a real workaholic and fan of her craft'. After her debut on June 3, 2014 (Diana played Becky Thatcher in the jazz musical 'Tom Sawyer and His Friends'), she met Svetlana Ivanovna Vovk, the director and pop singing teacher at the Togliatti College of Music and Rodion Shchedrin, member of the jury international and national music competitions and Diana's journey continued ...
Diana's voice, her perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm were extraordinary even as a little girl and so she impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions. Her confidence grew, her voice continued to develop ... until one day she was asked to compete in more distant competitions so that other children could have a chance to win.
So, in 2017 on February she went to Moscow, at the Russian 'The Voice Kids'. Diana sang 'Yodel-Time' th-cam.com/video/vKdvaWsd91Q/w-d-xo.html but none of the judges turned around but the whole audience gave 'standing ovation'. What happened? Next day, a huge scandal broke out in social medias. People demanded for Diana's participation in the competition. A door had closed but a new door opened:
In 2018 and 2019, Moscow hosted the 3rd season of a unique international Competition instead of “You are Super”, which was launched in 2016 specifically for adopted and orphaned children. Diana took part and won. These performances were broadcast nationwide, uploaded to TH-cam and made Diana known worldwide. She now has many millions of fans around the world. The final of the international singing competition for children 'You are Super' took place in the Kremlin Palace. The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote. Diana won a scholarship to the music college. Igor Krutoy gifted her a small apartment in Moscow so that she could begin her vocal training with the best teachers in Moscow such as Professor Olga Donskoy (she died of Covid-19 in October 2020).
The break of voice made Diana’s voice darker and deeper. During her vocal break, her voice sometimes went a little crazy. You can hear it in some videos from that time. She has mastered this time very professionally and worked hard to get the lost high notes back and has expanded her vocal range, currently from C3 - D6 ... and it will go on. Her genres are folk-rock, folk-pop, jazz, soul, blues, soldier songs and Diana-stile… tradition meets modernity. She likes to paint and draw so much that we can be glad that she decided to sing… But did you notice that she only ever holds a microphone in her right hand? Her left-hand underlines and paint, what she is singing. Diana puts her whole soul into each song. That all makes her performances special and unique.
But not only is she a great singer and storyteller, she is also a humble, intelligent and hardworking young woman. She gives charity concerts… and she loves her family and values what they sacrifice for them. She loves her fans (they are 'Friends' to her) and she is grateful, that they helped to improve her home studio. On TH-cam Prof. Donskoy und Diana had also regularly answer the questions of her Fans. Her Russian Friends have chosen Diana as "National Treasure" (no official title).
In her home studio, she is currently experimenting (Corona time) a lot with different music genres and performing on both large and small stages. She loves the French language, but also sings in English and Spanish.
2020 Diana graduated from high school with honors and in September she has become a student at the Russian Institute of Theater Arts (similar to Juilliard). She studies in the specialty "Variety Artist". She is already composing songs and we will definitely hear her own song soon.
She will only take part in major competitions if invited. Such competitions require a lot of time, effort and strength. As a result, participants often have large educational gaps and problems later on. Diana is a smart young woman. She focuses on her studies, her voice and expanding her repertoire. А визажисты только усилили этот эффект.
Может быть , сидя в кресле - качалке , с вязанием в руках и без всякого намёка на косметику , Лариса Александровна смогла бы вызвать во мне и вполне добрые чувства. Не знаю...
Я , уж , вообще молчу о художественной работе с лицами Фили или Коли.
Совершенно омрачающее зрелище.
Правда я не видел их обоих лет пять , но думаю , что годы их не украсили. А косметологам стало совсем сложно.
Справедливости ради , нужно отметить , что они пока что с честью справляются с лицом Валерии. Без грима на неё смотреть совсем больно стало , а вот если покрасить и разглядывать с большого расстояния , то вполне себе ещё...

By the way, congratulations on being one of a select few of reactors who pronounced her whole name correctly! :) I'd recommend Rechenka next, which was about a year before Wicked Game. She's been entering and winning contests since a very young age.

I am a huge fan of Diana. And her backstory is both gut wrenching and uplifting. Her version of this classic Chris Isaak (80's) classic pop song is Fantastic. Her voice is both unique and mesmerizing. She is a Super Star in the making. Personally, never understood the love of Diana. Granted, most unusual tone quality and loaded with power. Anyway, curious your thots on this vs Angelina’s piano acoustic version of same song? Be sure to get one where AJ is at the piano for one is random pictures only.

@@jinxvrs I wasn’t looking for a comparison. Two young women of very close ages, yet two different approaches. AJ has emotional depth way beyond her years and it shows in Wicked Games. Diana chose, I think, another variation or style to match the situation. I don’t wish to ask which is better just preference in tone. As to which artist is best being in the eye of beholder and time for lasting impact. Marcellino Pompey is unique, for example, yet to me is more of a one trick pony. This too will meet the test of time. IMO he offers a laudable gimmick. If he sings every song the same way? In trembling fear of Buts reproach, I’d offer Dimash is a superior talent with more than one “trick.” Regardless, my view of Diana stands. And she may be ultimately more successful than any other. Truly, I hope this meets the approval of BUTS as I await the next words of wisdom. Nanny, nanny boo boo has already been used I believe.
