Mae's fight with her mum always hits me so hard, because I went through the exact same scenario. My mum came to visit me at uni, saw how bad things were, and IMMEDIATELY insisted I drop-out, helped me move back home, and supported me getting medical help. Losing time and money wasn't comparable to her potentially losing me 💖 Very grateful to have such a supportive parent, especially when I watch that scene
an interesting counter-point to your reaction to the argument between Mae and her mom: Her parents had been planning her life since she was born, the mom straight up says it. Did anyone discuss this with Mae? Did she ever get a vote? Did she want to go to college, or did they just ship her off there as "what's best for her"? Honestly, I look at Mae and see someone who is desperate for some measure of control over her own life, instead of just having it dictated to her. I think that's also why Mae pushed Bea...because she sees Bea as being in the same prison of expectations and obligations
Yes, I also think the moms in the wrong here and the reason Mae turned out the way she did.
I relate way too hard to Mae - right down to the “emotionally stunted adult who suffered a mental breakdown in college” part. The only difference is my parents wouldn’t let me come home. After all, I was the first one on either side of their families to go to college. This has been endgame all along. They forced me there bc they said I was just making an excuse to leave and give up.
So I stayed. Graduated with honors, somehow, despite being so messed up that I spent an entire week holed up in my apartment bc I was convinced something bad was gonna happen if I went to class. I graduated, sure. But at the cost of my mental health, my hope in the future, my physical health, and myself.
College isn’t always the answer and it isn’t right for everyone. It can open doors for so many people, but others can benefit from other paths in life - especially if it’s for the sake of their well-being. I wish my parents had let me come home before I got as sick as I did. Because it took years to come back to the surface. And I hope no one out there has to know what it’s like to drown.

And it seems like you know what cost. I sort of feel the same way about how I've been pressured to be in life and am only just now realizing at the age of 31 how badly that fucked me up and why I've had the problems that I've had. And it's resulted in this perfectionism that has screwed me royally in more ways than I even understood at first.
And the way my mom will act like she has no part in it... It's like she's saying "oh! I know why you limp like that, you just need to eat more of this and do these exercises etc..." ... When the reason I even have a limp to begin with is because she (metaphorically!!) hacked my thigh with a machete when I was 17. Like, I don't wanna hear that from you lol.
So I think it's okay to be bitter but also let that bitterness guide you to what it is you actually want and need in life.
God. Will’s delivery on Germ’s “Holy Shit” line actually made me tear up and strain a couple facial muscles I was laughing so hard. That was amazing.
FOR REAL I started screech-laughing uncontrollably at that, I had to leave the room cause my brother was watching TV and I was drowning out the dialogue 😂

You can either hang out with Gregg and have Mae feel young and free while also being ignorant of all her problems and doing something dangerous
Or hang out with Bea and give Mae a harsh and depressing but very much needed reality check
gregg is a friend she wants, but bea is a friend she needs. i love them both and they both are important!
In the end though both their hangouts end with a similar message, Gregg's ending is about letting go of the past and Bea's is about accepting the present

The whole college conflict is interesting! While I understand why Mae's mom would be upset over her dropping out, since all the time and effort she spent for her daughter to get to college was wasted, I also feel like her mother's approach wasn't that great. It's clear that something happened to make Mae want to drop out in the first place, and things are never as simple as "Oh I just dropped out cause I wanted to". Lashing out the way she did wasn't going to make Mae open up about what's really happened, and I bet she's been putting off telling her mother the details because of how she would react. Given that she's neurodivergent too, I think a better approach would be to really confront her in a more compassionate but stern way about what exactly happened, instead of lashing out and calling her a failure just because she doesn't have everything figured out so easily. Her mother's approach was definitely unjustified, and Mae's anger is a completely understandable reaction to the toxic expectations placed on her shoulders.
Aww man you missed the BEST interaction with Bea where you get locked in an old lady’s basement. It was her most entertaining part!

The conversation about noodles was the most Mae and Bea interaction that wasn't from Mae and Bea I've ever heard.
I'm dissapointed nobody's brought up the blue canary in the outlet by the lightswitch in Mae's house. But I guess cats are unlikely to have birdhouses in their soul.

You probably won't see this, but you guys playing night in the woods has made me finally start my last run of night in the woods to get the last of it's trophies. So while you guys have been streaming I've been following along playing as well! Night in the woods Is one of my all time favorite choice games. And I gotta say that you guys are doing great at voicing the characters, especially live! Can't wait for next week.
Also the janitor is probably a ghost. You can see a statue of him in the background at the graveyard with bea.
Also, on a completely unrelated note. I was laying on scissors for about half the stream.

Honestly, Mae's not really in the wrong. Like, I get that her mom had all these expectations and sunk a lot into it, but college is like, a 90% failure rate for people with any sort of neurodivergence. Like, they went in *demanding* Mae succeed, and she's already dealing with the sting of accepting that what plans she *had* had have fallen through. Like, it sucks to push someone into going into something so intrinsically traumatic as college, but it sucks even worse to go through it for a couple years, have nothing to show for it, and have to quit because you're destroying what's left of yourself and you aren't going to *make it through to anything of substance*, then have everyone saying shit like "I would've killed to go to college, such a shame", or "you didn't even try", all with this undertone of them being disappointed in you when you're already disappointed in yourself enough for the entire fucking world
Also, keep in mind that there *is* a power imbalance in their relationship. Mae doesn't have anywhere to go if her mom kicks her out, and that conversation was going the "we're kicking you out if you don't get a job by the end of the week" direction, at least insofar as my experience with that kind of conversation goes
Absolute stellar performances and casting. Somehow the mom talking about billing/taxes inspired me to finally file my taxes on another window while listening to this. Truly incredible. But in all seriousness, this was great, and made the process so much less painful.
Gregg’s weirdly spelt name reminds me of how the doctor spelt my brothers name wrong on his birth certificate so it’s spelt Jerrimiah not Jeremiah like it’s supposed to be spelt
my name is not only ethnic but also has a kajillion different spellings of which I use an uncommon one so everyone misspells it all the time and it's absolutely infuriating

Fuck you might be right and I think the reason Mae works when Alex doesn’t is that she clearly actually cares about her friends. She doesn’t just use them to feed her own ego. She, in her own ways, tries to help her friends feel better or do things she thinks will overall improve their lives. She’s not a perfect person obviously. But she has a good heart. Alex… does not.
