- Here's the well-known “Fig for a Kiss.” I play this E Minor Slip Jig on our partially finished staircase with Matt, and then teach it phrase by phrase. As always, I’m playing this on my Patrick Olwell Pratten-style flute.

I've always loved this tune. A good price for a KISS ! You have raise the spirits of this SEPTUAGENARIAN in a time of uncertainty.
you are a KID, Art! Hope I stay so spry and sharp. And thanks for the kind note. Means more than ever right now.

thanks, Des!
Thank you so much! Great learning from you! 😊
Thanks a lot for tuning in, and happy this can be of use for you!
TH-cam keeps suggesting me these, but I can't keep up learning them so quickly 😂.
Anyways, great lesson as usual. The F roll top was really valuable.
The performance was great. Just jamming and naturally enjoying the music in uncomplicated manner.
Thank you!
no rush to learn stuff, p! Just take the time you need to learn one. Then when you're ready, learn another. Little by little, the bird makes its nest.
Beautiful, thanks.
thank you for tuning in, Simone!
Hi Shannon. I’ve been learning tin whistle for 3 months and youtube’s algorithm suggested your videos to me. I love listening to your playing and hearing your advice on musicality and phrasing etc. Singing the melody is a fantastic tip you give for learning. I do this when I’m working things out on the guitar. Going to give the flute a go when I get the chance. You play so beautifully that you have inspired me. Thank you!
so glad that you have found value in singing, too. Let us know how it goes on the flute!
Wow... such momentum and lift...
it's because we were working so hard to be safe on the stair case (which didn't have a railing at the time). Just a bit of danger appears to be good for rhythmic lift!
In a few days my first flute will arrive, a new challenge for me. I am a player of different types of bagpipes (Catalan bagpipe-sac de gemecs, bagpipe of gascony-boha, and Scottish smallpipe) I will follow your advice to get started in the Irish flute
I'll bet you will have ease and great enjoyment on the flute, coming from the pipes! Ease the initial hurdle of making a tone by enlisting the help of a seasoned player (who can weigh in on efficient embouchure). And learn tunes with ample breathing points from the start. That should make it manageable. Good luck!
@@ShannonHeatonMusic the embouchure is what I will focus on, although Quenas played and the embouchure is different, I think it will help me achieve it more easily. My best wishes
@@ShannonHeatonMusic I'd appreciate embouchure tips.
@@saoirse2120 practice 5 times a week and come back in 10 years. That's my experience.
💗💗💗
Fab, fab fab diddly diddly dum . That was gle mhath !
Elegant elephant's banana? I am now washing my hands a lot? Nine syllable sentences for slip jigs indeed!
Shannon Heaton . Hi Shannon do you know ( I’m sure you do ! ) the Foxhunters slip jig ?
Don't know if I am going to teach anyone to suck eggs here. No offence, but here goes. I use the, 'clip' icon to capture the beginning and end of each phrase, Shannon plays, and put tit on replay until I get the phrase into my head. You can do this on reduced playback speed, and I find watching Shannon's fingers too, and even play silently, following Shannon's fingers and diddling the tune in my head, which I find very helpful. Hope this may be helpful to someone. One bite of pie at a time. Love your voice and your style. I kind of have the opinion you are also a great singer.
Correction: 'put it on replay'. Hope no one was injured trying to follow the instruction to the letter.
great, Yasdnil. Repetition and taking small bits at a time... this seems like a good way to learn.
