  • Today I want to talk about the brand JMM - Jacque Marie Mage. It's a niche Los Angeles sunglasses and eyeglasses brand that is amazingly beautiful and extremely high quality, but at an outrageous price.
    Let me tell you my thoughts.

    Nice review of the JMM glasses. Hype aside, from a pure quality perspective I think the biggest difference is that these are hand made acetate and titanium from the best factory in Japan, whereas the Oliver Peoples frames are owned by Luxotica and haven't really been the same quality wise since.

    I like to wear nice stuff ($500 shoes and $300+ perfume). No one ever notices, not once got a compliment. But when I turned up at work wearing JMM (optical) glasses, there was an avalanche of compliments from people I never suspected to even know my name. JMM may be hyped, but they are not overhyped.
    BTW, I counter red indentations with a very thin film of vaseline (petroleum jelly) on the contact area. Works like a charm. I find it a small price to pay for being noticed (in a good way).

      $300 perfume doesnt mean theyre "nice" to other people. most $300+ perfumes are niche and it might be unique and smell nice to you but the general public (esp girls) prefer sweeter smelling (ysl colognes) or more basic designer cheaper perfumes like sauvage or bleu de chanel (if you're a guy). theres a reason theyre so played out and popular. A lot of $500 shoes look like shit/meh to the general public, again if youre a guy looking to get compliments, most girls will be quick to compliment some cheap $100 oxfords or boots over some expensive designer shoes (which tbh looks a lot like dad shoes, even the dior sneaker line) or hyped nikes/jordans or just sneakers in general (most girls don't care for sneakers on guys).
      JMM look nice (as does most brands/glasses that cost over $500) on initial glance but you could spend half as much to get more or the same attention if that's what you're looking for - any just detailed, more intricate designed opticals which are pretty much 80% of glasses once you are willing to spend over $600+). the problem is JMM hype is fake and their quality is trash, especially for their sunglasses. if you have any pieces with silver ingrained into the sunglasses which JMM loves to do, it will tarnish terribly and you won't be able to polish it, if you own turquoise pieces from them, they are low quality turquoise with shit stained browning that happens quickly, their lettering inside fades off within months, they have low quality control and they sell their bstock flawed pieces online. this is a open secret to their enthusiasts (who have since migrated to other brands)

      @@user-po9yi1mo1s I don't wear sneakers. At all. Im all about classic footwear, mostly from brands like Crockett & Jones, Magnanni, Santoni or RM Williams. But wether it's a rugged Red Wing or a C&J captoe oxford with a mirror shine, people here just don't seem to notice or care. The same goes for the fragrances, regardless if it's popular designer or upper echelon niche.
      The JMMs were an entirely different experience though. But while I don't share your view/experience about the quality, I do agree that you can get bold, attention grabbing, high quality eyewear for less money. My wife's Cutler & Gross glasses have about the same effect as my JMMs and were about 60% of the price. But just like the footwear and fragrances, I buy stuff primarily for myself and the compliments are just a nice bonus 🙂 Im still looking for a nice pair of sunglasses though. If you have tips for high quality eyewear brands, I'd really appreciate it.

      Unless you're in some fashion conscious area, most people won't notice if you have on $500 dollar shoes or expensive perfume. The most compliments I've openly received were on my purple Lakers edition timberland boots and my 100 pair of James oro sunglasses. My retro Jordan's get more attention than my gucci sneakers or my genuine crocodile shoes.

    I own both brands and love both. I agree that you can feel the difference. I am ok spending on luxury watches and sunglasses because they last a lifetime and beyond. They can become heirlooms or sold if needed.
    We are all adults, it’s expected we don’t lose our items. If you are a person who’s prone to lose things, then luxury items may not be for you.
    Regarding insurance, that’s perfectly legal. You can also claim them out of a health spending account through your employer if prescription.

    I own 4 pairs of JMM's- 2 Dealans, the Torino and a pair of Jaggers. The Dealans are INSANE and my go-to faves in my collection! The quality, craftsmanship, design and all is second to none. You also have to remember that JMM's are limited in their production which, makes them that much more "worth their price" and creates more value benefit. Also, it's an independent company that's NOT owned by Luxotica, like EVERY other sunglass/eyewear company out there. Something about that fact makes the the JMM's that much more....appealing and special as well. Additionally though... I'm a HUGE Oliver People's fan as well. I own 3 pairs of the Oliver Suns.

    Most sunglasses, like persol, Ray Bans, Oliver People's
    And many others are made by one company. JMM stands alone. They are handmade in Japan with the highest materials of acetate &
    Organic cotton and wood. JMM eye wear is totally different from the rest. Very comfortable all day long. I have The Molino sun. I have many pairs of Persol's & 3 pairs of Oliver People's & my far JMM are the best with a Caveat $750.00 dollar.

    you should have bought one from Japan, because they do asian / low bridge fit there. and even for models that don't come with asian low bridge fit, they'd custom alter it just for you.
    and the low bridge version, fits asian face better and the surface area are larger, hence putting less pressure on your nose.
    Those plastic pad are not comfortable because they're not good at distributing the weight properly. If i were you. I'd sell this one, and get a proper one from Japan.

    Few corrections about the sunglasses, they are not made of plastic but cellulose acetate, which is made from wood pulp and cotton linters. Also the metal frames inside the sunglasses are made from titanium. taking into account that one pair of sunglasses requires a 300 step procedure over the course of 18 months, the price tag of 800-1,000$ is to some extent justified.

    There are a lot of brands much better quality and price wise than Oliver Peoples. The only Oliver Peoples Worth getting were the ones from Larry Leight pre Oakley and Luxottica. Jacques Marie Mage, Matsuda, and Chrome Hearts are all very decent. Jerome Mage individually hand picks the best Tekiron acetate in Sabae Japan to make the best glasses he can. The process to make all JMM glasses takes 18 months and over 300 steps to make 100% made by hand and all pieces are limited edition. A much better alternative in my opinion to Ray-Bans is either Gast, Tejesta, Moscot, or BOSS. Overall Great video, sorry if I was a little harsh, and like seeing people put out eyewear content. It needs to be a larger genre of yt content.

    • @gengator4543
      @gengator4543 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SirJeanLucAsec so Tejesta are designed in Miami, Fl and from my understanding most of their acetate styles are handcrafted out of Miami using Mazzucchelli acetate. I have seen a few models out of a China from their metal series, but it does say that the materials they use for some of their metal series of glasses are from Japan. Mazzuccheli acetate isn’t quite as good as Takiron, however for the price you are paying Tejesta is very reasonable in terms of pricing for Mazzucchelli acetate. More so than anything I would be more concerned with the the materials and techniques used in each frame rather than where they were built. For example a Garrett Leight frame or Gast frame will be much higher quality in terms of acetate moisture retention, metals, polishing techniques, and hinge design than a pair of Ray-Ban. Garret Leight and Gast are both ethically made in China using high quality techniques taught to highly skilled workers, where as Ray-Ban are sometimes made in China or Italy by less skilled entry level workers. Despite that being the case I would always rather buy from Garrett Leight or Gast. Another good one to add into the mix of great affordable eyewear brands is Vintage frames company. Look at the story pages for most of the companies, talk to some sales reps, and go in to feel quite a bit of products and you’ll get a deep understanding of how the companies are ran. If you want a little bit of an inside look into the industry listen to Garrett Leight’s GLCO Spectacle Podcast or watch some Corey Shapiro interviews. Listening to the creators of these companies and hearing the process of what they go through is great education and puts a lot of perspective into what you are buying. Great question and I hope you find a great pair of frames that works for you. If you want any other brand suggestions per certain price points let me know.

      I have owned a pair of Garrett Leight optical, and they failed me twice by breaking in the middle :/

      @gengator4543 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SirJeanLucAsec ah okay, sounds like the issue is more of a durability than a longevity issue then, because with a GLCO frame as long as you take good care of it the acetate will maintain its moisture and the highest should work well for a while. In term of how durable they are though that’s a different story. If you’re looking for durability at that price point I would turn to companies such as Reykjavikeyes, Naruto Naganata, J.F. Rey, or Maui Jims. Which those brands will show longevity as well, but in different ways more suitable for a bit more rugged wear.
