  • Vijay Prashad will join the show to talk geopolitical developments since October 7th and their relationship - if any - to the dynamics that the Tricontinental Institute for Social Research recently laid out in their new publication: "Hyper-Imperialism: A Dangerous Decadent New Stage." This latest study explores how the decline of Global North hegemony has shifted the geopolitical landscape and opened new possibilities for emergent organizations of the Global South.
    Vijay is an Indian historian and journalist. He is the author of forty books, including Washington Bullets, Red Star Over the Third World, The Darker Nations: A People’s History of the Third World, The Poorer Nations: A Possible History of the Global South, and The Withdrawal: Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, and the Fragility of U.S. Power, written with Noam Chomsky. Vijay is the executive director of Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research, the chief correspondent for Globetrotter, and the chief editor of LeftWord Books (New Delhi). He also appeared in the films Shadow World (2016) and Two Meetings (2017).

    As an ancient 75-year-old I can only hope that American hegemonic Imperialism has seen its final days. Though many of my fellow Americans are unable to see it, American Exceptionalism on the global stage has been as virulent and detrimental as colonial slavery has been in out own national history.

      This will be replaced , if so happens ,by non-American exceptionalism .There will never be a void nor be an altruistic power.

      @@pagan-540 a very true risk
      the empire could be bowing to its next throne to run the globe from, we can be voting if that happens now or not with our reactions
      maybe we the people almost earned actual rights and freedoms in america )clearing thinning at current) and so maybe the place will be nose dived to make sure us the people can not rise up and interrupt the affairs of elites when we think not to the favor of us the tax paying
      there is a certain level of duty we all have to our community after a point
      we must ensure the policies we are endorsing serve the community, that we are always upholding the wellbeing of the tribe
      I think us all having our uniqueties is as well such a vital part
      probably our country can be made to 4 smaller countries to make sure we dont have too much global effect, and that going forward to respect each people of earths unique values there should be no one super power, all of us must be informed, and take care to ensure that we are all treating each other welly
      and lets join forces to inhabit space,
      Elsewise there will be a super power, who will place fetters on all of us, maybe kchips
      and then we will never inhabit space, if the slaves try to escape the chip turns us off, we must help each other go in all directions NOW :)

    Something Vijay said really resonated with me. He talked about the beautiful sensitive people of Gaza many of whom are being killed for reasons that few of us have any sympathy with. Some of us can hardly fathom the depths of the brutality being committed. He noted that as we watch the story of this tragic event unfold we witness the stories of these wonderful people and feel their pain deep in our souls. Yet they face one of the least sensitive humans on earth today: Netanyahu.
    I realise that Vijay, who is very special, is special because not only is he hugely intelligent and committed to being a decent human being, but that he is also deeply sensitive.
    Thank you so much for this captivating interview with this very special man.

  • @NotoriousArab24

    I disagree with Vijay on the tactics of Oct 7th. The resistance overwhelmingly targeted military bases and that's why they overran them and captured soldiers. The civilian captives were taken by regular people in Gaza not affiliated with the resistance. It is simply impossible to attack a settler colonial state without injuring civilians because the settler colonial state uses its settlers as human shields, ironically. The settlements around Gaza -- Gaza envelope as it's called, is meant to protect the military bases that come after the settlements. Literal human shields for the military bases. If a resistance movement has to avoid civilians, then the bar becomes impossibly high to the point where any resistant act they take would be deemed illegal. There's no effective "bar" for the settler colonial state, so why should there be one imposed on resistance. For this reason, I disagree with Vijay. Otherwise, I really enjoy listening to him.

    • @MAKCapitalism
      @MAKCapitalism  หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      I agree with you. There wasn't enough time to get into the debate there, but on other coverage of ours with Abdaljawad Omar and Bryce Greene we have talked more about the problems with the narrative (also Electronic Intifada - also The East Is A Podcast recently had a really good episode on Oct 7 - and others have done great work on this). Also we can talk about "civilians" but settlers in the Gaza envelope are heavily armed garrisons and would have been exchanging fire, that's a different scenario. Anyway I agree with you that it wasn't necessary to narrate it in the way that he did from my perspective.

      @NotoriousArab24 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@MAKCapitalism I agree with the way you conducted the interview, because this point was ultimately a small detail in the bigger picture of the topic at hand. However, it would be interesting to have Vijay expand on his point of view at another time. Thanks for the very well done interview anyway.
