    I did almost this exact upgrade in my 2000 XJ 3 days before this video was uploaded, the outlet I used has 2 QC 3.0 outlets and a digital Voltage read out between them. $14 on Amazon.

    I did this on my WK already. I also did the same for the rear port in the boot (or cargo bay if U.S.) and added a switch as it was live all the time. Really comes in handy. Good video though. Simple and quick.

    What would happen if you did it in the cigarette letter on the right? Would it draw power even if nothing was plugged in?

    • @OutJeeping
      @OutJeeping  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would still technically be turned on and you would always have that led lit up. It might not be a big deal for some people's car but over a long period of time it will kill a car battery if it hasn't been started in a while. It's always a piece of mind knowing that everything's off when the vehicle is off.

    I have a 97 Mercury Mountaineer that I want to do this to as well..
    Only thing is my 2 front cigarette lighter locations are different than yours.
    How could I know which one is the one that turns on only with the key?
    Also, I'd like to wire one in the back.
    How would I do that, just wire both outlets on the same wires? Would it be too much?
    Would be cool if I found one that the illumination only came when I turned on the instrument panel lights.
    Thanks in advance..

    • @OutJeeping
      @OutJeeping  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could simply test the ports with a phone charger or multimeter to see if you got power. You can add power to a back outlet by splicing into the same wires as the front outlets as long as you don't plan to run too much power through but with USB ports you should be fine. I'm sure there may be an outlet that only turns on the light when dash lights come on but the one I installed doesnt allow for it.

    Great Video! Good idea! I have a whole bunch of those plug in chargers although I never buy the cheap ones it would be great if it were built in. Were you worried about parasitic draw by keeping it live with the ignition switch off? I have kept my dual USB plug in style chargers plugged in for weeks at a time and seem to get by with it...guess I am lucky. But in the event that a ten dollar item from China burns your Jeep XJ down to the ground it probably is the safest way to go.
