Would you be able to ask your friend what plants he used for the Mexican biotope? I want to set up a Central American biotope tank and I am looking for plants that originate from there. Your friend info could be a good start
I notice the males not only exhibit truly outlandish 'swords', but enlarged dorsal fins akin to those on adult male Limia nigrofasciata. Interesting. Also, if you check out the venerable Innes book, it appears this is one whose identity he got wrong for once ...
Hey bigs, I wanted to ask you if you possibly would know where to get a few of these guys. Would love to have a community of these guys in a single tank!
Depends on where you are? If in the US they are available and most certainly will be available at the massive convention this July in Louisville. If in Canada there’s a few people keeping and breeding them in Saskatoon and Wpg. That I know of
@@themadaquarist damn a shame I want the montezuma fish because they are from the place where I was born and they are beautiful :/ thinking about getting them myself because they are no threat of endangerment haha
Morning Biggsy, I love Live-bearers. They are one of my specialties, I enjoy breeding pure line bred aquarium strains. That is a lot of fun. Very few wild strain fish down here, however I do maintain a tank of X.montezumae "Rio tamasopo" just like yours. They behave very differently to other Xiphophorus. You and me brother, we'll have to do a field trip down Mexico way. I was only thinking of Mexico and filming cichlids two days ago lol. Much luv Brother.
I’ve personally never been a fan of trade livebearers but I’m an absolute fan of wild livebearers. Mainly goodeids but I do have a soft spot for nice swords as well
Awesome tank great video
Thank you kindly

Awesome video man....those are super awesome fantastic swords man....
this is the species that they tried to introduce back into Florida fish farming to try and make the 'swords' larger on domesticate swordtails
Chris, do you know where I can get some Xiphophorus montezumae?
Here’s people maintaining them in both US and Canada. They are available.
I’d recommend joining some livebearer groups
@@themadaquarist I have. I think I am a member of everything I could find and no leads so far
1:49 Hey, that's close to where I live.

I’ve always had a wild livebearer species or two in my fishroom at all times through the years. Very hard to not fall in love with this one
You do realize what a good friend Kevin is and what a great haul that was. Doubt you'd be able to purchase it anywhere in the States.
Been friends for several decades
I love My Montezuma Swords. They are amazing little fish.
