    I flew to London to Toronto on BOAG in October 2003 just before the end of all Concorde flights . I sat in seat 25D right by the engines . Was amazing. My girlfriend went by B747 , I remember I walked her to her plane then had to wait an hour for mine then I had to wait 3.5 hours in Toronto for her to arrive!

      Watched your Concorde land @YYZ that afternoon, then attended BA’s reception that evening…revisiting BOAG as I had flown her to/from LHR the year before. Paid another visit to her a few years later in Seattle.

    • @simonwinn387
      @simonwinn387 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s great, it was an amazing day, I was at the reception in the hangar for a little while but had to get back to the terminal to meet my girlfriend from the B747 she flew on . We went back to the airport fence next day to watch BOAG take off and we were waiting with hundreds of people but it took off from the other runway. We still saw it though but sadly not as low/loud as we could have . One day I will get to Seattle to visit her. I sat in seat 25D but I think you can’t get that far back as it’s screened off. Be nice to sit in my seat again.

      @@simonwinn387 Across the Atlantic was in front cabin one way sitting in front of Sir Peter Hall, theatre artistic director. Back was midway in the rear cabin two rows back from Barbara Walters and across the aisle from Michael Jackson (who covered himself with a blanket through the whole flight!) and in front of his two burley “Jersey Mafioso” body guards who were each carrying a shopping bag from the Disney store!
      Since my Seattle visit they’ve moved BOAG into an enclosed building. She was in the open for a few years next to a TCA SuperConstellation.

    Good Afternoon.
    Another Case for another Aircraft to Far ahead of her time and Expensive and Per Passenger Ticket wise hope you had a good Bank And Healthy Bank Balance.
    This Plane is so Perfect in Design and Construction you wonder how no more than 12 (Twelve) were ever built.
    Easy to Answer, The Airline's were not widely accepting of the type and not SST Ready Travel.wise to gamble on.
    We Recently read about the Boom Overture and Orders already from United and Another Airline and then Rolls Royce I believe pulled the Pin on the Type Power Plants wise and no one has yet come to the party on the Engine Front.
    I wonder what would happen if even one of the American Based Aircraft Manufacturers or Airbus Industries picked up the Tab and Purchased the Rights to this Aircraft with a view of looking into the Future Market Place.
    Given today's Modern Composite Materials available for High Technology Construction wise not to mention the Avionics upgrade and Pilot Intergration also new Power Plants and in that Reconstruction an increase in size of the Aircraft itself Width wise to allow greater room inside even a single seat Positioning wise down the middle and larger windows on the Aircraft, Who Know's what the Future will Bring Back to the Present from the Past.
    We Could go on and on about that for ever.
    Good Video, Narrative and Technology talk wise, Loved it.
    Regards
    John

    Been on the BA Concorde 2x I can tell you it is not as glamorous as they paint it out to be..sure it is FAST. However, the interior is tiny and I think they try to make you feel special with the food and champagne. I was a young boy in my teens and my parents took in the champagne whilst I had a small sip...to me it was bitter. Oh well, until the next supersonic aircraft comes along, I got to fly on this one twice. Was it worth the price for the ticket, for my parents, probably yes.. for me, not so much.

    Hi Paul, you mentioned the use of the fuel as a heat sink. Fuel was also used to trim the aircraft. Since aerodynamic trimming was not considered ideal, because of the lack of a horizontal stabiliser and the desire for a clean aerodynamic profile, fuel was shifted fore and aft to move the aircraft centre of gravity depending on flight conditions. Keeping the aircraft ‘in trim’ was the task of the flight engineer.

    • @Radienleo
      @Radienleo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PaulStewartAviation Virtually all aviation has stemmed from some sort of war machine interest like cargo airplanes for the military turned Passenger liner, sentry aircraft like "Boeing P-8 Poseidon" is my favorite example. The Xb-70 is a fascination blend of efficiency and beauty and size, an apex predator, large enough to take passengers in the bridge or neck extension. 20 year old technology and consent from Boeing just isnt going to happen -your right, the blend or mix of both worlds would have been amazing to see...But 150'000 gallons or 567811 liters of fuel for 100 passengers isnt something can exist in the 80's for long.
      Edit: Just found this. The XB-70 could fit 80 passengers in airline-style seating, in an absurd idea to keep the jet production going.

    Two things I found out while taking a tour of the Concorde in NY. On the last flight of the Concorde, the flight engineer would put his hat between the bulkhead and the engineers panel, remember as mentioned, the Concorde would expand as much as 12”. When it landed, the d hat would be crushed in between and would become a permanent home, also the pilots signed their aircraft since you where assigned that specific aircraft for as long as you flew Concorde.

    I flew Concorde in 1992. Yes the interior was very small compared to a then 767 but you didn't really notice with only 100 passengers. No IFE either but you were being plied with booze and food.
    Take off was very noisy but incredible acceleration. Supersonic transition was two big shoves in the back as they lit the afterburners on the outside and then the inside. Very stable in flight but windows were quite hot to the touch.
    An incredible experience which is gone now☹️

      Normally plane windows are cold to touch. I wonder why they were hot?

      @@underneonloneliness2 uh maybe consider how fast the plane is moving? like this plane is exceptionally fast going at mach 2

      @@underneonloneliness2 Concorde cruised at over 1300mph, faster than a rifle bullet (hard to believe when you stand next to Concorde) the Friction caused by the plane tearing through the air at that speed is what caused the heat and actually caused the aircraft to expand considerably.

    What a bird, it is like no other, even today it looks great!
    And yes, humans use to travel twice faster in the 70's than now.

    A good reminder why you buy a white car in a hot country. And I'm sure it drives faster as well.

    Nice, you made a video about an aircraft not tested at Edwards.
    When I was younger I always thought I wanted to fly on this plane. Right up to the point when I found out how much a ticket cost....lol
    At that price, I would rather just own my own plane. Fly with comfort than speed.
