How To Wire Minim OSD Mirco (and set up in Betaflight)

- Wiring the Minim OSD Micro can be confusing. But here is how to do it. You only need 6 wires going to it. If you are adding this in to a flight controller then you dont need the Bat 1, Bat 2, current, or rssi pads, because the flight controller will send all that data.

Thanks for the clarification of what needs to be connected, for some silly reason i thought despite having it connected to the flight controller via the UART I would also need to feed it rssi and battery voltage.

hi quick question can this Mirco OSD run with a 1s battery ? like for a micro brushed quad
quick question. I have a Taranis 9Xd already on UART 2 to receive telemetry, can I still use it for the minim OSD, or do I need to find another UART?
can I connect the ground wires for OSD,camera ,and tx together at the front of the quad and then run one ground wire from that connection to the PDB to reduce all the wires.

Very informative. I have a question regarding the King Kong ET100 thru ET125, which have no OSD. I've searched for mods that add OSD to these quads, but found nothing. Could it be that they have no UART ports on that FC?? Thanks.
Does it have to be connected to a uart port to display battery voltage?

I have my first Quad (Wizard X220 with a F3 6DOF, betaflight 2.9.1 Naze 32 FC). If I follow this video will I be able to have RSSI display ? if yes just how accurate will it be ?
Because RSSI is really what I most care. Every time i'm flying always anxious that my quad will go down to safe mode.

Why are you not soldering the RSSI below ? All i want is simply to have RSSI. Would i have to solder RSSI ?

You probably not doing this channel anymore, but will try to ask. Is it possible to get in the goggles only battery volts and RSSI without OSD? Or will need to purchase and wait and tryhard to install/flash pesky OSD :P
To check that I'm understanding correctly... If the FC is recieving Vbat or RSSI we don't need to connect the pins on the minimosd correct? They will transmit with the rest of the data correct?
Correct. If you've seen the video where I set this up using the MW OSD GUI, you probably noticed the buttons for Vbat and RSSI that says "Use FC". The Tx and Rx wires coming from the flight controller going to the OSD will tell the OSD all the information it needs.

I would recommend using a 4-pin connector (Micro JST) for the 5v/gnd/rx/tx. So you can disconnect the minim from your FC. This is useful if you want to flash it or change some settings & adds almost no weight or bulk as those connectors are super tiny. If you solder directly with no way to disconnect it, you will almost certainly regret that later.
Hey JC. First, thanks for your videos, they've been immensely helpful. I recently bought an Eachine X220 and I want to add an OSD. I've got my receiver running through the UART3 port, and UART1 is shared with the USB (plugging into betaflight shows no standalone USB port). I see a UART2 in betaflight, but I see no actual pins for a UART2 on either side of the FC. The FC has two connections for the RX, one is SBUS and the other is IBUS, is it possible the SBUS connection is on UART2? I can send a pic of my FC if that helps.
What flight controller is it?
Project Blue Falcon, I'll have to break it down tonight to see if I can find any labeling on it. The available info on the web is lacking, and for what is out there, the FC in my wizard is visibly different. Stay tuned, and thank you in advance.

You can see on the manual the UART2 connection is on the top side marked 2.
I did the connections from there with and without the ground but i get nothing on my goggles...
So if you find a solution or JC can check it it will help me too :)
If I am running S BUS on UART 2 with just serial RX selected.. Can I still turn on data for UART 2 and run the mini off of UART 2 while still using S Bus?

Sorry for getting ready so late to set this one into my own quad, and asking (stupid maybe): why , seriously, why sould there be a wire from UART Rx to ODS Tx? what can the OSD transmit to the APM? I'm confused...

Additionnally, the batt1 batt2 RSSI and CURR are not to be used, I guess... beacause my old APM 2.5.2 doesn't support RSSI (or?) and I use a power module already, (which is not accurate) to retrive the data about the BATT...
Last, I wish to know whether it IS mandatory to flash/update anything in this firmware... I thought I would just plug it and get the display.

tx is connected to rx because imagine tx pin as a mouth that speaks and rx pin as an ear. You cant listen with 2 mouths, hence why its connected tx-rx and rx-tx.

thanks a lot for both your explaination and the info (I read a RIP com, but,being used to many bad jokes on the web, I was assuming it was just some sort of weird communication). I understood the principle of RX and TX, only, then , I had no idea about the "handshake" protocol. Moreover, some say you can while other say ytou can't plug OSD+Télémetry wired in parallel. Anyway, now I think I fried things on my APM (troubles), and yesterday, I even crashed it! So , no hurry anymore, I'll get a new APM 3.1..
