I feel like wearing color is like a good luck charm 😂 at mass deca there was a girl wearing a yellow pantsuit who went to nationals, lots of girls wearing all red, maybe it’s a confidence boost 😂
I honestly love that you brought this up! Color is actually proven to be a REALLY good choice when you present! It's eye-catching and makes you more memorable. Now there are definitely bad practices for this (I literally saw someone wear a camo blazer once, yikes) but especially if you're on a team, matching outfits can make you feel more confident and more coordinated.

I’m in 8th grade and this is my second year in DECA I got 3rd in district but middle schoolers can’t go to state I struggled with roleplay because I wasn’t really sure what I was doing but after watching this I am more confident for next year’s competition

My competition is in four days and I’m terrified but also really excited! I’m doing the team entrepreneurship event and I’m wondering if you have any tips for that specifically? I’ve really just been trying to learn as many terms to use during the scenario as I can
Honestly that is a great strategy as is! I competed in Entrepreneurship last year (individual) :) I would really just recommend making sure your communication with your partner is as smooth as possible and have fun with it! You can be as creative as you want in that event so run wild with it. Hope that helps!

Hello! I just wanna say thank you for these tips! This is my first competition, as well as my other teammates', these tips will definitely help us prepare for our competition that is happening in less than a month from now. I just wanna ask if there are any tips, anything we need to know, or how to prepare for Marketing Management Team Decision Making and Hospitality Services Team Decision Making. I know this might seem a little unorganized as we are only preparing for it now, but my teammates and I were notified just recently about this and didn't have as much time as we wanted to prepare. Totally understand - welcome to the DECA world! Outside of this video - I also recommend reading past case studies and practicing them as if you were in a real competition. Getting someone like your advisor, a parent, or even a friend to judge is also really handy!

I am not exactly sure! I'm from the US and have been out of the high school competitive circuit for a few years now but typically it's somewhere around a 70%? Hope that helps!
Hi I have my DECA state conference in a week and I was wondering what would be an example of a "story" introduction you explained and if you have any specfic tips for Buying and Merchandising Team Decision Making? Thank you so much I will be sure to use them at state!
Hi! I would check out a few TedTalks and pay attention to how they intro their presentations. Those usually ill include some kind of anecdote or story to set the stage of what their proposed solution/learning is. I don't have any personal experience in Buying & Merchandising but for TDM events, I think the best thing you can do is come up with a signal between you and your partner to pass off who's talking, split your PIs between you and your teammate, & leave time for questions at the end (2 mins is good enough). Where is the best place to go to study the concepts for one's event? For example, Business Finance

would you recommend joining deca in college? whats the difference between the high school deca vs college? are the case studies for collegiate deca more advanced/difficult? will joining deca impact your chances of getting more likely job offers? sorry for the questions! i've been considering joining one in my university @ThereGoesInfinity
Oh my gosh I recommend it 110%! The best way to distinguish collegiate and high school DECA is that one handles JOB readiness while the other focuses on COLLEGE readiness. A lot of the things you learn in high school DECA prepare you for college-level business classes while collegiate is centered on getting you through tough interviews and presentations to your boss or employees in the future.
Actually, I have found that the college studies are easier for me since they are much broader topics and there are less overall competitive categories. It is a much smaller branch of the organization in general so you really get one-on-one interaction with your team members AND you get to talk to the judges afterward. Job offers are much more likely after joining Collegiate DECA so I would really really recommend it.

You can do this! Ask someone if you can borrow a blazer for your presentation but a collared shirt and some nice dress pants goes a long way

For everybody who went to states, what competitions did you do?
I did a collegiate event called Entrepreneurship Operations! It's really similar to the Entrepreneurship Roleplay for HS :)

Google "Trends in HR management" and learn about a few of them by reading articles over the next few days. Try to apply them when you're in the competition with your judge. They like to see active learning and it will almost always differentiate you from others! Otherwise, just keep practicing and having someone judge your presentations. Good luck!

if you plan on doing DECA for more than 3 or 4 years then yes! I don't know if they're still an ICDC requirement but if so, I would try to rent one if you're only planning to stay in DECA short-term

Can you give an example of how you would make a "story introduction" please?
Marium Naqvi sure! Lets say you have a topic that is about a dog daycare. You can start off by telling a little story about how you once went on vacation but was worried about your dog not having a good place to stay. You can talk about how your dog daycare fixes that problem by having 24/7 cameras in each kennel or something like that
Marium Naqvi a good rule of thumb is to figure out what problem you’re trying to solve, then tell a story (it will probably be made up but doesn’t have to be) and use it to create a simple answer to your problem!

any tips for rfsm (restaurant food service management)?
I did a similar event (SBE) and visuals really help! Judges are usually watching so manay presentations that if you have something cool and visually unique to show them it makes the world a difference

You have GOT THIS! My best advice: find some Quizlets for your event to learn the words and then try to fit in at least one practice roleplay (if that's the event you're competing in). I believe in you!

I am in middle school and my competition is next week I am really scared but this helped a lot, also a question if we stand up and then sit down at the table, should be unbutton our bladed before or unbutton it while we sit down, because I feel that it would be a little weird if I do it after I sit down
no stress! I personally remain buttoned until I'm done shaking the judges hand, then I unbutton to feel more comfortable sitting down. You can always ask the judge to sit down and get permission from them if it feels more comfortable / natural to you as well :) wishing you luck!

It depends on what state you live in! For most states, district and state/provincials do NOT require a DECA blazer, only internationals. They can be ordered online at DECA.org or you can do a google search "shop DECA". Don't stress about it at lower comp levels though! Black and white as long as it's business professional should do the job

Hi, I have a quick question. I'm a high school students and very interested in deca, but my high school doesn't have it. Is there any way I can join deca from some other program?
I would try to see if there's a high school in your area that would allow you to register under their name! You can also try seeing if there's a teacher at your school who would be willing to register your school for a chapter!
My first year do you have any advice for solo fashion marketing??
Outside of this vid, I also recommend: research trends in the fashion industry, practice past case studies (and try to do it in a professional setting or with a timer), and make sure you're familiar with basic fashion marketing terminology that might give you a leg up or an example to reference in the prep room! Hope this helps
The judges mark based on P.I's so how do you make sure that you solve the case while still connecting it to the pi's?
Personally, I write out the PIs on my sheet of paper first. Then, I look through the key information in the case (who I am, what my goal is, any obstacles we have as a company, etc) and jot those down to the PIs that they relate to the most

Where’s u get the deca pendant from?
it was a DIY project! i took the DECA pendant off of a graduation cord I received and put it on a silver chain :) you can probably find a similar one on Shop DECA though!

my advisor made it for me as a graduation gift! They can be DIYed from graduation tassels from DECA pretty easily

LOL gift from my advisor but super easy to DIY! I bought one of the DECA graduation tassels from Shop DECA (it was like $6) and then used pliers to take it off and reattached it to just a random silver chain from Michael's.
How do I get better at expanding topics? I just stop after like 2 minutes.
This is super common! I find that it helps to start off each part of your presentation with a story or example. Sometimes, you can just set the scene by telling them about what made you think of an idea, challenges you faced, etc. It kind of takes practice but even just trying to narrate things in your head throughout the day can help you build those skills

It’s challenging but rewarding! I recommend reading some past case studies (you can find them on DECA’s website or on Google) for your event and practicing creating your own responses! Wishing you luck

can i get advice for a business finance series roleplay
Sure! I never did a finance roleplay but setting the story is always important! When doing a finance or accounting case, it can be really easy to forget the problem or situation. Try to remember this no matter what! It can really reinforce a presentation and if you make a mistake, it's easier to "distract" the judge from it. I hope that helped a bit!
One more thing! Make sure you also review finance vocab before going in. Quizlet has a lot of flashcards for the finance exam that can help you learn important terms before going in
Im in grade 9 and i just randomly joined the deca club. I dont know anything about business and how to study deca. Im regret joining deca now bc i paid $200 for the test in febuary and i just wasted money
Try to make the most of it with the rest of the school year and see how it goes :) DECA can be a challenge but it’s paid off in my life tremendously

Do you think you could give an example of a story you would use for your intro or what you would say?
Dipdyed1ys sure! So for example if your presentation is about declining basketball ticket sales, you might start off with a “news reporter” voice and tell the story of an intense basketball game and then transition into your presentation by talking about how not enough people were in the arena to see it.
Totally a hypothetical but it’s just a little hard to write out!
Sorry I didn't see this! Hmmm... usually when I start off I'll introduce myself and whatever role I am playing in the scenario (such as a manager or something like that) and let my partner do the same. Then, I usually would use a transition sentence that is still relevant to my introduction OR you can even say "Last time that we met, we talked about XYZ" which will make it feel like more of a conversation with the judge
