I'm kinda shocked that you guys didn't address the damage to the underside, that damage certainly isn't helping getting airflow into the skirt, which is the proper name for the rubber part

I used to have one exactly like it except mine had a 35hp Rotax. Having to deal with prop pitch myself I can tell regardless of what the tach says you still don't have enough pitch on the blades. It should lift higher even at half throttle unless there is a issue with the airflow through the bags. They can be a pain to get set right. I got mine to run about 45mph after set to what worked best. Also there shouldn't be water coming into the boat, mine came with a plug already in it.

My buddy and I tried to build a hovercraft after an episode on Monster garage. With 2 lawnmower motors, bolted up with radiator fans to fill the skirt we could hover, but we never acquired a motor that could push us forward. We were in high school and our budget was like 80 bucks.

Hey guys, we just did the EXACT same reno on the EXACT same Scat I.
My kid and I did a complete rebuild including skirts, new piston in the motor, scaled the head clean, complete carb, new blades, new pulleys, new belt, and some other fiddly bits.
You’re close to getting her where she needs to be. Pull the top end and have a look at the piston, you’re probably losing power/compression there. Exhaust is next. We have the factory pipe, and sounds different than yours. Blade angles from the guy you takes to at the depot are spot on, we used his chart.
A little more horsepower and you’re flying, I can assure you. Ours was rattier and had ‘glass work needs. She rips with the kid in it and it flies well when I’m in it too.

Next logical step is a swap to a Yamaha triple.
One thing to remember is that different shape expansion pipes effect rpm and where the peak power comes on.
It doesn't need much power to get moving. My guess is the skirt is damaged and it's leaking lots of air. You can see on one side that had a major blowout. You can push a properly inflated skirt with your pinky and it will get moving.
BE CAREFUL!!!!! Hovercrafts are VERY VERY dangerous when they work right. They take knowing how to properly pilot one to not flip it and kill yourself. I'm so serious when i say if you get this thing running right, take the time to learn how to properly ride one of these and then when you do still be careful and wear a helmet and neck brace.

They fitted one, just not sure if its one designed for that engine. I'm more worried that the skirt is damaged hence why it wont lift properly. It should be floating on cushion of air not flat on the ground like it is now. Skirt leak or damage on the hull.
My buddy Al had this model and color brand new. He used to drive it 30 miles on the Susquehanna River to a drive up ice cream stand…..and drive it up into the parking lot to get curb service…….it was always drawing a huge crowd …✌️
Go to 50:1 mix .... more gas and less oil
More oil will make it run lean (fuel to air mix) and take away power and check the jetting
More oil means richer😂
More oil in the gas means less gas going through the carb jets witch in turn creates a leaner air fuel mixture. It would produce more power with a 50 to 1 oil mix. With todays 2 stroke oils we do not need to have so much oil.@@Barrymckociner074
@@Barrymckociner074 nope, sorry... The air stays the same. The oil and gas are mixed, so 40 parts gas to one part oil vs 50 parts gas to 1 part oil. 50:1 is more gas thus a richer ratio.
50:1 uses less oil than 40:1 which in the 2 stroke world more oil means richer, dont be ignorant and go learn

Your hunch is correct. The blade pitch is your problem. Tinker with pitch till you get the RPM you desire. Good luck, guys!!

This is better than my one and only hovercraft experience.
A customer brought one in to the auto repair shop I worked at and I drew the short straw.
Twice Ike mentioned "a runaway"...well it can happen. The first time I brought the throttle up one of the blades broke and speared it's way into the fiberglass shroud. The rest of the blades collided with the first one and in about a nano-second blades we're flying everywhere. The engine went to a crazy rpm with no load.
I was at the handlebars so I yanked the kill switch...didn't even slow down. I headed to the back (no engine cover or blade guard bad idea) I couldn't block the air so I ripped the coil wire off with my shop rag... didn't even slow it down.
Really, plug wire off 10,000 RPM!
Apparently there was sufficient carbon in the combustion chamber keep it lit.
Only a few seconds of run time have occured but I was now attracting a crowd including the boss and another mechanic who was bleeding profusely from his forehead.
The boss is screaming "shut it off"... I'm trying.
I removed the air cleaner and finally covered the carb and it choked out.
The bleeding guy explained that a blade hit the bottom of the hood he was working under knocking the prop rod off and the hood slammed on him.
The only cool part of this story is how the boss handled this catastrophe. He called the customer yelling at him to get the POS out of here before it kills someone.
This was circa 1989 ish.

22:34 not having the back pressure that it’s needing won’t ever let you achieve the RPMs you need to or the power it needs it back pressure needs the expansion chamber with a smaller exit pipe. There’s a reason two-stroke exhaust systems are made the way they are I can remember as a kid in the 80s ride around on my CR 80 and thinking it would be cool to have it louder so I took the header off and lost power. I couldn’t even get it to get into the power band.

What happened to Charles
The zip ties are important and you should always carry many spares. They are designed to break instead of ripping the bags open. Also, you should have at least 30 horse in the power band. We had a real problem on water because in order to turn while at speed was risky and the natural inclination is to come off the throttle, the results were not good and causes injury. We solved the problem with an oversized 4 stroke out of a 4 wheeler for much better throttle spectrum and a flap that could tune the air flow up or down... kinda like the trim on a boat. And if you are fearless then extend the rudder fins a couple of inches for sharper turning at full throttle. These are fun on water but extra fun on ice!
Well at least Ike has a rotax leaf blower for the yard now 😂

In high school we had a hover craft with a 3-1/2 hp lawnmower engine and you leaned to steer it. You need a separate motor for lifting maybe
Had a pair of these 30 years ago ... the Drive belt was their achilles heal.

many of the race ones have another motor at the front, this one fills the bag, or some adjust the diverter behind the prop wider the opening the more lift, but i would put more angle on the prop, or fit a couple of leaf blowers as lift motors, once you get the lift these thing fly, just remember to turn about half mile before a corner.. sort of like drifting..
Despite the disappointment, this episode was hilarious! Ike's reaction to sinking, and Chuck with the flag were the highlights for me!

50:1 two stroke racing oil. Block the bottom potion of the fan leave the top upper fan for steering moving.
Joe with the channel 2vintage got a hold of a hovercraft a lot like this one but I swear it had two engines on it. One for lift and the other for thrust. He was having some issues with it along with one of the skirts was torn so he's had it sitting in a field for months now. Parts are a pain for these types apparently.
This one is a Scat 1, Scat then redesigned to a Scat 2 and Scat 2 HP. When they folded Hovercraft Depot got the molds and tweaked them to create the Air Commander Hovercrafts, Joe has an Air Commander AC3. He has it for sale on Marketplace currently.

There was a small boxer type engine sold in the 70s that was a six cylinder 2 cycle.they still make a small boxer engin in 2 and 4 cylinders .

Don't forget, the more oil you mix the leaner the fuel🤔🤔🤔
you were correct to lower the mixture slightly, you might even be able to go lower!!! Here's why, that craft pre-dates commercial synthetic 2 stroke oils. A lot of modern engines will have a ratio closer to 25:1 vs older engines at 60:1. Organic 2 stroke oils need a heavier mixture to provide the same lubrication as a modern synthetic. You still wanna watch EGT and re-jet to match your mixture for optimum performance. REMEMBER leaner oil ratio does not equal lean AFR. It equals a very rich combustion condition which will wash your engine and cause more damage. Happy Trails!
Engine upgrade and duct upgrade for more air at the bottom did you guys check the belts and pulley you might want to block off some of the holes bottom of skri to help more air in the bottom needs the body needs to be around inch or two off the ground it still a good video bryce

YEP, exactly as it should be for the power produced by that engine. Its a balancing act between thrust and pressure, filling the hub with blades would likely make the whole thing worse. They need to get the engine running well and then adjust the pitches to allow the engine to make 6500rpms and no more, they then will be utilising all of the available HP from the engine.

Sounds like you need to lean the carburetor down a little bit on the top end.
That Rotax is a great Paraglider engine.
You guys should try changing the pully's for the belt gear ratio get the fan rotation better at idle that way your not running the engine at full rpm all the time and you can have slight floatation at idle and more thrust in the higher rpm's
