Your channel has been low-key gradually becoming one of my faves! Dig your unpretentious vibe. Cool to see your setup. I love “crunch” as well… that area just before breakup is joy. I adore my 1981 Inventions DRV on a low setting. Most people use it for that Rat-style filtered distortion… but the DRV has a unique boost circuit with such a marvelous character in the lower range that I tend to just roll with that. I know it’s considered a “hipster boutique” pedal but i shop with my ears and the DRV3 wins for me, for boost and basic tone, even without getting into distortion

  • @RobertFisher1969

This was great! I feel like there are lots of people who tend to focus too much on the boutique gear, and there are a fair number of people who focus a lot on the really low-end stuff. It makes me happy to see a showcase of the kind of middle-of-the-road stuff that is the most useful to the most of us.

having used a big pedalboard for a decade, I recently bought Amplitube 5 Max with all the different amps and pedals you could want. I feel like it's finally good enough to use and not feel the need to replace with a real amp later on, and it's sooo flexible with the signal chain ans everything. Love it

Favorite pedals. Overdrive Boss Sd1, reverb plate from Strymon Big Sky, boost TC electronic Mojo Mojo. All this into a REVV D20, which gives me same option as with your amp. Looking for an echo/delay pedal. Not found one I like. Modulation pedal: a Boss md-500 is my favorite (flanger and chorus modes). All this makes it fun to play and even practice.

  • @ComfortRoller

A friend bought a quadraverb and the GT when I was a teenager, that blew my mind in '88. I had a princeton twin chorus and a overdrive pedal which kept me plenty entertained and could be mic up easy enough. Nothing fancy.

With all due respect to your ears, the reissue Clone Theory was my first stop when I started my Hooky tone journey, and it just didn’t come close enough for me. I ended up landing on the Tech 21 Bass Boost Chorus. It has a detune knob as well as the standard controls, and it gets not just Hooky’s sound but Pretenders too. I can’t help playing Brass In Pocket when I turn it on. Works great on guitar too!

Why am I not shocked! Great line up effects. My go to rig is similar and hasn't changed much over 20 years. Wah thomas edition into Milkbox compressor into a modded TS9 into a Jim Dunlop Univibe chorus/vibrato pedal. Compressor always on and guitar volume usually from 4 to 7. I never play my guitar at full volume tho I might dime the amp. As always great playing Warren!!

Awesome video, great pedals! I love pedals as well! Especially the small pedals like the Mooer pedals are so much fun and not expensive.
I recently purchased the Mooer Hustle Drive. I plug it straight into my Sono and it sounds really awesome! The Ensemble King Chorus is also amazing!
On my gigging pedalboard I cannot live without my Ibanez Tubescreamer (old time favorite of course) and also the Boss Blues Driver!
One question: do you also record with delay or reverb on?

I am slowly putting together a Pedal "Board".
I went for the "three stages of Gain":
    EHX Soul Food,
    MXR Distortion +
and my Favourite Pedal, a version of the Mk1 Tonebender Fuzz, the Shaun Klinger Mk1 Professional built in Melbourne here in Oz..

Exotic mini compressor I like. Good Topic!!!

I too have an array of amps and plug ins in my humble studio but I found my go to's are either my Vox MV50 AC with treble booster or Guvnor MK1 or ts9. I have other pedals for variety and a load from Behringer (try the GDI21, great for studio work). My Positive Grid Spark 40 and mic'd is my other recording option. An endless amount of sweet tones can be had from a "practice amp".
I was always told that its best to record dry and add effects in the mix. Would you agree ?

  • @dahliafiend

Through either a 65 Princeton Reverb or a Strymon Iridium my most commonly used pedals are the JHS Morning Glory, JHS Bender, Boss DM-2w and a Strymon Flint. Also have a Wah and more pedals and will get more surely but those are the ones I use daily. Guitars are a Les Paul and a Strat.

    • @dahliafiend

  • @TeleCustom72

Pedals, where to start 😄 I searched for the right compressor for years and the Drybell Unit67 is just phenominal. Similarly, I struggled to find the right delay as they always got in the way. The Dawner Prince Boonar delay is a pedal I tend to leave on a lot of the time (Echorec type delay). The last one is the Flynn Amps Hawk booster, which is a repro of the booster that Rory Gallagher used. Its absolutely brilliant at fattening a Strat. On a totally different level, the Earthquaker Devices Life Pedal is just nuts - a RAT with more gain and an octave up effect. Its just mental, in the best possible way.

Great video, and yes, more pedal videos please. My favorite overdrive pedal as of late is the Earthquaker Devices Plumes. It's their take on the Tube Screamer but done so much better IMO. It has 3 clipping voices LED for more crunch and compression, Silicone for transparency, and a straight op amp clean boost. If you're a fan of the Tube Screamer the Plumes is a must. If you're not a fan of the Tube Screamer defiantly give the Plumes a shot. Oh, and it's great on bass as well. Plus, if that hasn't sold you, it's only 99 bones.

Really awesome collection. I've been digging the Chase Bliss Condor recently. It's essentially an eq with a killer preamp section. I use it on my studio board that's lifted about 4 feet off the ground on a laptop stand. You can modulate any parameter with an expression pedal so I use it to control the volume knob, so the expression is basically functioning as a volume pedal. That way I can keep the cable length shorter. It's a pretty handy utility effect.

I'm an MXR fan myself. Boss and MXR have the field when it comes to pedal FX. All other are variants or refinements on the theme. For the most part. There are certainly exceptions.
Got to be careful with pedal choice, right. haha. Trying a pedal take at least five minutes. Not long, but ten pedals and an hour is gone, which really turns into 1.5 hour before your back to work. And now it's lunch time. Lunch is over and, "Hey, what was that pedal we tried that made that one sound?"

Got some nice Boss pedals on my acoustic board (Love the reverb) but lately, and I may take a bit of flak for this, I’ve been using my Line 6 Pod Go which I find quick & easy to dial in some nice tones.

I have one of those Roland Chorus Ensembles, my favourite chorus - but the stereo outs are out of phase! I learnt to work around it. I have '72 Deluxe, best recording amp ever! For lofi delays I use a '60s Copycat with a totally worn tape, just perfect.

One thing I have recently discovered after watching a youtube vid comparing how different battery types change the sound of tubescreamers, is a li ion PP3 battery that is USB chargeable but only 7.4 volts instead of the normal 9V. it gives that voltage sag sound and a charge lasts 10 times longer than a normal battery Doublepow brand 650mAh

    Fan Fact:
In 1993, Fender released the 65" Deluxe Reverb reissue, with the original cosmetics and circuitry, but wired on a printed circuit board rather than hand-wired. even today you can go a pick one of these up at almost any major musical instrument store :).

I remember seeing the Plimsouls at the Hollywood Paladium in 1980, I was right in front and I remember looking at the pedals that Eddie Munoz, the lead player, was using and the Boss Chorus ensamble was his main pedal (and the only one I remember) other than all their cream colored Marshall amps..... These were the best chorus pedals from the day, I remember I had an MXR chorus pedal in 1983 that had a non-mechanical foot switch on it, and I hated it.....

in my home production I used to DI all electric guitars and then run an amp sim vst over it , because I was intimidated with the multitude of pedals and amps... There is just to much. Maybe with the new mics I have I will reconsider miking the amps , just because I shied away from it for so long
