    Hands down the best ever serve lessons I have ever seen anywhere.. your ability to teach in simplified manner especially the advanced concepts is too good.. also what I like is how you bring into focus the ability and limitations of one’s body to perform any action which no coach talks about .. thank you so much .. pity I have discovered you too late but still I feel empowered now .. thanks again !!

    Many players have a pinpoint serve, what are the implications of what you mentioned about the pelvis for servers using a pinpoint serve foot movement?

  • @Better_Call_Raul
    @Better_Call_Raul 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is wonderful information.
    One key point is to practice getting weight on the back leg while simultaneously getting the front hip out. Most players will prematurely shift the weight onto the front leg. That is not what we want; keep the weight on the back leg. Roughly 60/40 weight distribution. As shown in 06:15.

    There is for sure no doubt in your mind if you did get pelvis in right position when serving ... the difference when you don’t is enormous. I feel like I miss the feeling and control when not getting pelvis in right position, and the serve goes smoothe and some how effortless when it does. Thanks for a great video og all you do online for us tennis freaks 👍🎾

    I was having trouble getting enough leg drive into my serve because l wasn't aggressive enough with what you're talking about here. But if a player uses the pelvis correctly it allows for a server to load early enough to incorporate the legs every time.
    This is truly good stuff. People don't realize how critical this information is. Thanks.

    Good lesson. Hits the spot as my lower back goes out (hips misalign) at least once a year. Saw RF practice serve. He leaves the ground just slightly, frees the back leg and rotates it forward together with the hip. Similar to a forehand rotation, frees the leg and hip increasing range and not tying the hip and producing injury.

    Another great video, and something I’ve personally been working hard on, following the serve analysis you did for me recently. Being told not to curve the back is one thing, but the breakdown of the biomechanical side is extremely helpful.

    Hi Jeff, can we agree that the front hip can stick out towards the net during the load however that is a symptom of loading back and down on the back leg with a tilting back of the shoulders/hips? I think it’s dangerous to tell players to throw their front hip forward.

    Hi Jeff, The former Swedish player Gustafson is a very good example of sticking one's pelvis out in front in an exaggerated way, and he would already do so at the beginning of his serve motion in his tennis career.

    Love the biomechanical detail. Add hip rotation and side bend and you’ve got the building blocks. Similar to golf. Backswing mechanics determines just about everything after you strike the ball.

    For those that do not know, Jeff has just given you $10,000 worth of serve lessons for free
    Ability to be able to recruit and activate the back leg/hip correctly is the biggest determinate of serve power, assuming;
    1. Continental Grip
    2. A good ball toss (funnily enough Jeff put a video out yesterday)
    These are technical things that allow that power to be correctly utilised, but the power comes from the BACK leg and hip
    Great Video Jeff
    Keep up the good work

      @@TennisEvolution Hey Jeff, you asked me before about topics I'd like to see covered. This is definitely one of them.
      Being able to pivot on the ball of the front foot on a ground stroke is a big issue, which funnily enough relies a lot on the hip/pelvis recruitment & activation.
      Perhaps a whole series on pelvic tilt for serves and ground strokes may be in order?

    This is not a complicated problem: Solve your problem by stepping back (sideways) with your front foot to open the hips as you shift your weight to the back foot. Then drive off the back foot as you throw the front foot out into the court and open the hips for full power. Simplify your serve with simple physics.

  • @chtomlin

    Pretty good, but the hips should come forward as a reaction to the tossing arm and shoulder lift, not by focus on them directly. If you use a combo of rotating away and getting the tossing arm high and back like the limbs of a bow that has been drawn, the hips will naturally move forward to the correct position in most cases.
