  • Do you know what you're actually saying to an elk when you send them a particular "cow call" or "bugle"? Does it really matter? Chris Roe of www.RoeHuntingResources.com tackles this controversial topic and talks about why he believes that not only is it extremely important to know what you are saying, but WHY you are saying it! All elk callers owe it to themselves to watch this video!!! ...this is just one of the Introduction videos in more than 40 hours of highly educational videos on www.RoeHuntingResources.com Elk Module. This can be listened to at 1.5 - 2 times speed under the video settings to save time.

    Absolutely it is important. I’ve killed a lot of elk learning ElkNuts stuff and added a few twists of my own here and there.

    Hi Chris, really enjoyed your video! I can see why the topic would be controversial, and would start some interesting conversations. I am a very novice elk hunter from Colorado, mostly hunt the muzzleloader season in September. I don't know that I even have enough experience to agree or disagree with your opinion or thought process on calling elk, but I sure have had experiences while hunting elk that would prove this theory true. I am excited to keep this idea in the back of my mind while hunting and observing elk. Thanks for sharing, look forward to learning more. Good luck to all the fellow elk hunters this year!

    The word you're looking for is 'anthropomorphism'. You are correct sir, it's called context. I handle a k9 at work, and your logic is spot on to some of the conversations my colleagues and I have. Thank-you for putting this out there.

    Love you app and website. Use the app dictionary as refreshers in the woods. Used your strategy this year to perfection. After 5 yrs of failure, got a small 6x6 similar to you pressured bull from 2017. Hunting solo, shot came at 9 yrds. I am a science guy myself so things need to be proven and make sense to me for me to get on board. You have done that. Thanks. Been chasing birds since mid September because you helped me be successful.

    This is my first year bow hunting. I'll be hunting in Montana and the herd tends to be very vocal on the ranch. Looking forward to hearing what they have to say. I like this advice in the video and agree we don't give elk talk enough credit. My plan is to not over call and keep noise to a minimum. Being elk pc is key to that.

    I also believe it is very important to know the sounds elk make, I have learned over the years how elk move through the woods based on the sounds they make. I have used calls throughout the year, outside of the rut and within.

    I'm in the same boat Arnies. First year bow hunter here! I'm afraid I won't know exactly what I"m saying this year, and trying to do it on probably less expensive and not very authentic tools to make the sounds....Ugh.

    Chris,
    For us flatlanders, going out and watching elk isn't an option. Many times we are coming in almost blind as it is. What suggestions do you have?

    • @RoeHuntingResources
      @RoeHuntingResources  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're absolutely right, and that is the entire point behind the the Elk Module/Elk Hunting Institute on the Roe Hunting Resources webpage. As of now, there are more than 20 hours of video for you to watch and learn from. Specifically focusing on elk behavior, vocalizations, and communication of elk themselves, we have several hours of video in The Gallery that is nothing but raw elk footage. ...check out this video th-cam.com/video/q9gPakx3KFY/w-d-xo.html for more info on that. Likewise, we have another entire section called "Strategies in Action" - with several hours of video of elk, and working set-ups - for tactics and how to use the info you've learned in the other sections, AS WELL AS the "Elk Hunter's Strategy App" that is both on the website, AND available in the Android Market and in the App Store that you can download to your phone. ...here's the video regarding that tool: th-cam.com/video/nPclfdTealc/w-d-xo.html Bottom line, if you want to watch and learn about elk, you need to subscribe to the Elk Module. ...just click the links in the video above to redirect to there. Good luck on your upcoming hunts!!!

    how do you keep it simple and is there any value to keeping your calls simple as a new elk hunter?

    • @RoeHuntingResources
      @RoeHuntingResources  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually DO keep 90+% of my calling fairly simple, but different scenarios require different calling sequences. I share a TON of info on all that in the Elk Module on our website, and in The Elk Hunter's Strategy App.

      +Michael Pierson - the 20+ hours of video of elk, elk behavior, elk vocalizations, calling sequences, set-ups, etc. in the Elk Module do just that. This is just one of the "Intro" videos for the Elk Mod. Thanks for watching. [Edited 1/10/17 to reflect that - as we do every year - we added a bunch of material, and now there is MORE than 20 hours of educational video folks can go through.]
