Building A 250' Driveway In A Field

  • Building a 250' driveway in a field. Back at the crawl space job and it's time to start putting in the driveway. I had to dig out about 18"-24" of topsoil and soft sandy clay to get to something solid enough to put the driveway on. I cut down to where the clay started and we hauled in 11 loads of 6" rip rap to put down for the sub base. Then covered it with 3" base rock to get a nice solid driveway for the concrete and lumber trucks. This is a lot like the train track job very soft wet ground. It's also a long ways from the quarry, it takes about an hour and 20 minutes to make a road so it's not going real quick. Thanks for watching! #EliteEarthworks #Takeuchi #driveway

    On a more important note, I’m surprised to see a customer willing to pay to have a driveway properly installed. 99% of my customers want the cheapest install they can get. Frustrating because I know it won’t last. Glad to see it being done right.

    Dont worry about the audio Im half deaf and I can understand everything! If youtube isnt your priority I can understand that, Im just fine with it and the others should too. Dont let them haters in the comments change anything! YOU BE YOU AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK and "it is what it is" as you say. let your work do the talking. the more critics in the comments the better, it helps favor the algorithm, just hit that heart button to make them feel like their opinion matters and move on.

    You don’t owe anyone any kind of explanation. Viewing your videos is the option of the TH-cam viewer. Each person n choose to watch or keep scrolling. I’d say, who cares what the 1% say. Keep doing what you are doing. If you try to please everyone, you’ll be the one suffering. Appreciate all you do to produce the videos you bring. Keep up the good work.

    Mr Brandon it’s cool to see that your always so positive and optimistic in your videos. Its also cool that you share the struggle balancing your excavation business and your TH-cam channel. I feel you , you got to focus on that money first before you upload content. 💰

    My grandson (14) is hearing impaired and LOVES your channel - as far as I know it’s always had Closed Captioning because he uses it. I was told TH-cam pays to have it done, but prioritizes it by viewership - so super popular creators are done fairly quickly, those with lower viewership may take days or even weeks for it to appear. He knows if he wants to “hear” a video, he may not be able to see it the first few days it’s available.
    And for those of you saying “it doesn’t matter” - it does. I just don’t think it’s Brandon’s problem, it’s TH-cam.

    I think you do an awesome job on the videos, Brandon. I know it is a huge chore trying to make videos AND get something done, mostly why I haven't done any videos for almost a year now, but I always enjoy them and always learn something from you too. I've been doing a little driveway building myself, last fall and this spring, in my free time, and I've been using lots of things I learned from you over the years. Keep up the awesome work! I thought youtubes would automatically generate captions, maybe if the noise is too high it won't, but I guess you can't please everyone, you just got to do what you can do. Thanks for the video! Hope things go better!

    Well Brandon!!! You know how I feel about a road built so well like this!! I LIKE it!! Haha.
    We have the grey clay and even without additional gravel in it these roads lasted for years like this. Fabric did as you say, tore and was a waste of $$. We also unfortunately get frost heaves that can mean digging even 4-6 feet of bad clay,,,,,. They don’t really show up and often they just need packing to level in the spring at just the right time. Of course keep driving through them when they are active and things get bad quickly!!
    Feed wagon, single axel, just over 3 ft of clearance and pulled by a sizeable front assist tractor with wide radials front and rear. We tore the axel out from under the wagon. Winched it out and put the wagon back together. That corner had been bad for years, it was very expensive to fix, but necessary. We installed underground drain tile at the 6 ft mark and daylighted them about 180 ft away down a steep hill. They drained water and created the most awesome ice sledding hill,,,,,,,,,. Oh well, the past and many bruises!!!😂😂
    I think this really will make a good road. Your experience and comments are very much like what we had up here in Canada. Looking forward to see how it holds up over the construction and summer!

    • @eliteearthworksllc
      @eliteearthworksllc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh wow I guess you would have to get that water out somehow or it would just always pump and heave. Yeah that grey clay is a pain to work with. Thank you! It should last a long time. I’m anxious to see how it does too. Appreciate you watching

    Just want to say that I appreciate all that you do to make these videos & really enjoy them, also a little thing I learned about running re-caps here in Arizona where summer time temps are usually 110 & above, is that you have to check them with a tire gauge instead of thumping them they will run fine but when they start getting a few psi difference next to each other that's when you start having problems

    That driveway, (aka Super Highway) is gorgeous and the rollercoaster tailgating was hilarious. Now as to the Closed Captioning - there's no way you can type all this stuff out manually but I saw the CC's are on in the one tonight and it's working fine. From what I can see, TH-cam Help says it should work automatically unless there's a long silence at the beginning of the video, poor sound quality or it could just take time to process. Anyway, we are so thankful for all you share and any manual process would take away from what most of us come here for. The way you do your video and audio is perfect to me. In fact, that's what makes your videos so authentic - you're just being YOU. You're inviting us into your daily routine and it's really special to us that you do. BTW, neat drone shots of that foundation and your closing pics were really great - especially that poor tire!

    • @eliteearthworksllc
      @eliteearthworksllc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I just clicked on the 'CC' button at the bottom, right of my screen and it works; prints out every word your saying. So I don't know WTF those people are complaining about. And to file a formal complaint on you... That's BS if you want my nickel's worth. Look Brandon... Just straight up say that you ain't got the time to type all this crap out. And if people are too stupid to realize all they have to do is click the 'CC' button to get that feature then they have other, much bigger problems that you couldn't possibly do anything about.. Let alone try to 'solve' for them. Keep on Keepin' on My Friend.

    Around here every time i have used that fabric it ends up like a water bed and you driving on a wave, used it 5 times and ended up pulling the rock back throwing the fabric away and dumping 3” in and let it settle then capped it with crush n run then the driveway was like concrete.

      Yep that’s the same thing I have ran into. If you’re going to try to bridge over soft material it needs to be 12”-18” thick of rock for it too work. I’m just not sold on the fabric

      @@eliteearthworksllc the ground was solid as hell when we put everything in and cut all topsoil off to red clay, the last one we cut topsoil, put the fabric down (customer request) then put crush n run down. Prior to becoming a residential driveway this was used as a farm road for 50+yrs and was used to log the back 70acres with little to no movement and never had soft spots, i have put many miles on this road with everything from bicycles to dump trucks helping previous owner farm. The only difference is the fabric, you could drive around the drive way in the yard and was solid after a good rain but the driveway it aint happening lol

      He has explained in the recent past why he doesn’t have one. He was pricing them out and it was looking like $15K. He couldn’t justify that price considering now few times he has needed one and finds ways around the need and gets the job done regardless.
      I don’t doubt he may get one in the future, but the need vs cost doesn’t add up currently. Different jobs and different styles. I’m not sure if you watch Letsdig18, but he is in love with his tilt bucket on his Volvo 220.
