I miss Samson, Alabama. Moved up there with a buddy and we stayed with his aunt Doris, uncle Hollis and cousin April. Was only there for about a year, but 30yrs later I still miss it. The people there are some of the nicest people I've ever met. Anyone from that time remember two Florida boys getting in trouble with the law and running through the peanut mill/plant?
Florida, you are a hundred percent right. The people of Samson, in fact the people of south Alabama are the salt of the Earth itself. I don't recall the foot chase you mentioned but there have been many over the years.
Why don't you consider a trip this way. It might prove fun..! You might even time it to coincide with Blackie's Gathering in the spring..! 🐻
I love going to Kaufman's, and make the drive over from Andalusia, now and then. As big as the place is, it always seems like they've got too much stuff for the space! Glad to still have them around, when so many military surplus stores aren't, anymore. Stay Safe!

Hi Bear, missed Alabama except the tunnel in Mobile. Traeling with a woman i was married to for 20 years and divorced for 22 years, we are business partners. Dropped her off in Mountian View, Arkansas. Went to New Orleans because of weather then North thru Little Rock, stayed the night in little Rock. Mountin roads you have not driven before are best travelled in the light of day. i saw 3 ravines i could have been exploring. Made it to my old neighbor, Like here when both of us are on the the top of our hills.

I love army stores I have since I was a kid that’s where my dad took us when we were in the Boy Scouts for our camping trips I’m gonna have to visit there soon I’m in north Georgia my wife has got family in Brewton Alabama directions from there would be helpful thanks for the video buddy
Thank you for watching Eric. Where in north Georgia are you? I have family in the Blairsville area. Brewton is west of us. According to Google maps it's roughly an hour and twenty six minutes from Brewton to Samson and a fairly straight shot. The last part of the trip (from Opp to Samson) will be on Al Hwy 52. When you get to the traffic light in Samson you'll turn right (south) on Al Hwy 27. Kaufman's will be a half mile(ish) on the right. It's located in an old shirt factory. 🐻
Great video guys. I found Kaufman 's by accident one day ,several years ago. And now I go in there whenever I can. The ladies are extremely helpful. And Jennifer knows where everything is in their vast store and warehouse. Set some time aside and spend an hour or two inside , you're bound to find something you need.

Military surplus is always a great option. Bang for the buck it’s hard to beat. If you end up with excess it’s easy to sell at the flea market or trade around on. 👍

That store steals the show, it's like you guys are but guests here. I'd say it's all at the same time a Military surplus / Antiques / Museum / Flea Market warehouse.
I'd like to see a simple straight walk through from front to the back and one from one side to the other just to understand how big that place is.
Well Flash, it was a shirt factory in another life. If I were to guess (standing at the entrance) it's probably 100'x 300'.. lots and lots of floorspace to explore..! 🐻

I have been wanting to visit Kaufman's for a long while now.. I'm 4 hours south of there in Central Florida and they have pretty much shut down all the surplus stores around here..
Plan on coming to the Gathering next year.. Blackie makes several trips every time.

I drive up from Florida every now and then to get some things. Never told anyone about my favorite off the beating path shopping spot. Now everyone knows. lol.

@@baileybrunson42. Oh I’ll be back up soon. Usually it’s up to mom’s kitchen for a big breakfast and back down to the surplus. Wasn’t long ago I was up there. You guys had one heck of a storm rolling in. Tornado warnings were coming across the phone like crazy.
After a hardy breakfast at Mom's and a strenuous morning digging for priceless surplus treasures may I recommend Alabama Pecan Company next door on the right heading south.. their food is also outstanding..! 🐻

They do have some "modern" German surplus items but I haven't seen any antique German stuff.. 🐻
That tent is light years beyond the shelter halves... I hated those "shelter halves"...

I have my 1952 shelter half, worth the extra weight, in my opinion ❤

Useless for those of us in Canada who can't call long distance. No reason why they can't have an email or website in 2024. Even our much smaller local surplus store has FB and a website. You can't put a one-off on a site, but you can certainly post a FB post when you get a new shipment of an item in.
