That’s a really nice job you did there. I’ve never seen someone taking off the oxidation with the orbital buffing machine usually gets a rotary that could cut your time in half but wow and results really matter. Congratulations on a great job.

As a vehicle and boat detailing enthusiast, one suggestion if you want to keep that gel coat looking better for even longer and minimize your future efforts is to use either a synthetic sealant or for even longer protection, use a ceramic coating. They do cost more, ceramic especially, but they last exponentially longer than traditional waxes. Great job though, the restore came out great!

I'm with you. I want to add a center console to my stable, but I can't justify the new boat cost. I'm most likely going to do what you're doing and buy a 15-20 year old boat. Only I'd be keeping that G2 until it blew up, then repower with a Merc.

You don't know me, but I strongly recommend 3M Fiberglass Restorer. It is very, very good stuff. You would have done half the boat in the time you worked on that spot. No lie, brother. I've been doing this for a long time, and nothing is quite like it. It saves you 2x the cost in time saved. Next time, off camera or whatever, (if it would offend sponsors) try the 3M stuff, and you will see that it's not just hype. Looking forward to your vids out of the new ride!

Pick up some marine tex .. its a two part epoxy used to fix gel coat dries so hard you can actually drill and tap threads in it .. they also make a dye to color match

You probably have people who would buy that G2, but I buy and sell outboards, and would give you a serious offer. That being said, you can put it on FB marketplace and get $8-12k for it easily. Or better yet, post a video taking offers, and pretty sure a viewer will buy it for top dollar just to meet you. Make sure you use XD100 oil while you are running it, and you are probably going to love that motor while you have it.

An old boat that has been taken care of is really no big deal My Triton TR-21X is an 04 and I did repower it in 2016 with a Pro Xs 250 and I keep it wiped downed and waxed and she still look as good as any thing on the water today. She still turns heads
Have you ran the G2? That’s like a 2017/18 motor at the earliest. So obviously it’s already been repowered. I know many in our area that have them and they love them with no issues. I know a guy in our bass club who purposely removed his pro xs and put the G2 on and would do it again.

Hey Brian, I’m thinking about a bay boat for my first. Is it better to buy used or new? Could you do a “what to look for and what to avoid” for used boats since the prices are low. Or, and hear me out, would you ever build a bay boat from like Salt Boat Works…say the FRS 18.

Wish I could repower I have a 2000 mercury optimax 200 but I was getting ready to go fishing an looked at my motor an the lower unit had busted.

Can someone please help me out? I have a 1970 bass boat with gel coat, at least I believe it's gel coat. Was wondering how far bad can a gel coat get before it's not able to be restored to it original finish?

Maybe it's the camera not capturing it but it seemed like your wool pad was barely spinning on the polish step. I'd have to bet you'd get a better result with DA buffer and smaller pad. You can also use an air gun to blow out all the crap that builds up in the wool

It’s tough in Indiana in the winter. Fished here all my life. But I’ve had luck in the cold months pitching green tube baits that imitate crawdads and jigging them along the bottom.
