Just remember, if Herbie started the Trans-France race at the same time as all the other cars, didn't go for a swim, get caught in an avalanche in the Swiss Alps, break down due to the diamond in the gas tank and rescue a Lancia from drowning, they would have finished miles ahead of the Porsche 917

Why didn't of the other cast members from The Love Bug appear in Herbie Rides Again or Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo? Where was Buddy Hackett in this movie? Why were David Tomlinson, Michelle Lee and Benson Fong all absent from all of the other Herbie films?

Disney failed to understand that Herbie was not the star of the franchise, he was a story telling that served the characters and the actors that were portrayed, you can NOT have a herbie movie without dean jones at the very least. That is why the only movies that really worked were the original and to a lesser extend, this one.

I like Herbie Rides Again because it takes place in San Francisco, which is where The Love Bug takes place. Villains are always more interesting and more amusing than nice people, so it was a real shame that David Tomlinson didn’t return for any of the other Herbie films.
