Full bust adjustments are magical! It’s really nice to hear your take on different patterns as well as adjustments. Gives me a better idea of what the pattern companies are doing. Not that I do much for myself. I’ve been in the habit of putting myself on the back burner. I’m working on that.
Sometimes getting started is the hardest part. Sometimes it's the stamina to keep going. You can do this. And some pattern companies are starting to build in adjustments - which is amazing. Knowing how to find the info to do it manually, though, is the way to make sure it gets done properly. 😃
@@MaireColclough getting started then continuing are both hard for me. I’m hoping once the school year starts and we get more of a schedule that will help. great video, lots of interesting things to take note of. YOur comments on the rise of the shorts is exactly why I prefer separates over a jumpsuit - the shorts and top can be linked to each other, can be used with other pieces and more. And less likely to ride up!!! Great work Here in Australia we are entering Spring, so my focus is to add to my Summer wardrobe and adjust some of what I have - I have lost 14 kilos (30 pounds) in the past 6 months (lots of fluid...) so some things will need reducing.
I love what you created! You are lovely in them! Thanks for encouraging me to do mock ups...I always feel like they are a waste, buy you showed how useful it can be
Thank you! They're definitely worthwhile. Particularly when you're doing something ill-advised like cutting out a jumpsuit drafted for someone who's 5'6" (and likely less "fluffy") and you're a busty 5'8" with a prominent tummy and badonkadonk 🤣
These look great, & are well worth all the finessing you did with the patterns. I recently watched Noemie from La Fraise - Sewing & Knitting make the dress, & she was joining a difference top size to bottom size. Helpful, because I think most of us need to do this. She also has tips for a fluctuating body size, so I passed on your adjustable strap option. Your hollyhocks are also looking fab!

Fantastic fit! Both garments look great on you and thanks for introducing me to the pattern, I'm adding it to my wish list. Wishing you the best with your journey.
This is very interesting to me, my weight yoyos with health and sometimes with seasons. P.S. (TLDR Pants is polite.) “Pants”, in the UK is actually the proper teacher-word and shop-lady for underwear. The ordinary household word is knickers, at least for females, and Ys or Y-fronts for men, unless they are specifying stretchy shorts, which are fairly recent here and not everyone’s cup of tea. The exclamation “knickers!” (beloved of 1970s TV Saturday teatime comedians) used to be the irreverent way of expressing scepticism or exasperation, but it got poshed up this century into, “Oh, pants!” (Frustration/exasperation) or “That’s pants,” (commiseration or skepticism).
Thanks for the info! Knickers, at least according to my Mum, were short trousers (capri or knee length) that button at the cuff. I will admit to using pants as a term of frustration 😁
Low carb keto type seems to work best for me. I never realized there were carbs everywhere until I started looking. I function much better when I'm not in a hard nap after eating some carbs.
I’m not sure if it’s an issue for anyone else, but when I do garments with a fitted princess seam bodice I usually make a note on the pattern of which bra style I wore for making the muslin - and I need to make sure I’m wearing the same bra for all the fittings. There’s few things more frustrating than thinking something has gone wrong with your FBA and redoing it, only to realize your Elomi Morgan bra makes the fullest part of the bust 2 inches lower than that super cute Sculptress ChiChi… 😂
ooohhh maire i have a sewing tragedy, my faithful iron fell off a counter, something that has happened several times before, this time it exploded. im in mourning, i have had this iron since the 80s my late hubby bout it to go with the sewing machine, i think it was to calm me down after the 50 inch tube tv, tower stereo with tower speakers at the same time we just had our second child. he was in the dog house.
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that! But...once you're ready...there are some pretty fantastic irons out there. I'm thinking of saving for one like Charlie of The Stitchery has - with its own base to set the iron on so the kittens are in less danger of their own folly.

First of all congratulations on the weight loss. You must feel amazing. Ironically when you slaud you were feeding cats, her majesty looked up from her bath mid lick to remind me her bowl was "empty" and I needed to shake the food back to the center. I never though you one for the cute blue strip fabric. You always came off as a goth at heart. Still it came out super cute. I love the big beefy pockets, lol. I feel your pain on the mosquitos. Those blasted tiny vampires love me. There's a party and I'm the keg. To combat this year I put up a series of birdbaths with little solar fountains to attract the dragon flies. My mosquito population has gone way down since I made my garden into a dragon fly friendly habitat. Thank God for predators.
The blue stripe fabric was a linen/cotton blend, cheap, and something I could wear in the sun if absolutely forced to go out of the house 🤣 You have just explained my grandfather's use of bird baths. I may have to remember that...
@@MaireColclough I thought it looked cute on you and made me think how I need more sundresses for wearing around the homestead. As for the bird baths. Dragonflies like the sound of running water and having things to perch on. Like stake or tall flowers even a clothes like will work. Living in the higher levels of hell well I guess technically lower by longitude and latitude as in the middle of the Arizona dessert, I don't have a lot of access to fresh running water so I had to compensate. Good luck with the tiny vampires! 🦟
I'm not sure if it would have worked for your romper, but something you could try on a mock-up next time is cutting out a bit from the crotch. It makes the legs shorter on the inseam but creates room for the butt. For those not in the know (I sure wasn't), cutting out a bit in the crotch/rise makes *more* room when if you did the same to the outseam it would make the shorts/pants smaller. I had to be told twice to believe it.
The cover(s) on my machines came with them. I believe they were made by the Husbeast's grandmother. I'm not sure where the phrase came from, but she was the wife of a progressive church minister so it was likely very well-intentioned 🙂
Congratulations on a successful f.b.a. Not so scary once you actually start is it? If you can do one on a princess seamed pattern, a two dart bodice pattern will be a breeze. Then you will be moving darts all over the place making your own design choices. Great to see you beaming with pride in yourself.
The sheer joy on your face when the full bust adjustment worked was delightful. May you have many more delightful experiences.

The outfits turned out lovely!
Of course I also have to dissemble my kitchen and dining area to deal with the dying fridge which in the long run might help with clutter. Lol it might also be a pipe dream as I’m banking on cooperation from my house hold!
@@robintheparttimesewer6798 At one point I made the decision and said "This is what I'm doing. If it doesn't work with what you want, that's fine. You can make additional side-dishes or whatever".
And that seems to have worked.
If you want to do something...you find a way. 🙂
I found some old sewing books from the 30s-50s that cover pattern adjustment. YT is great for the basic concept, but at some point I apparently still need to kill a tree to learn anything. Pattern adjustments are a journey that, unfortunately, involves a mirror... lol & sigh.
You've got this, Robin. Maybe see if the nearby sewing shops do an inhouse 'work on your project' night. The one at Fabrications Ottawa I was at got me over the hump of thread marking the seams and ironing what's done so far. Amazing at what spending 25$ on myself will actually make me do...
Hi Marie! Just to catch you up, coffee in Hintonberg was great and we both went home with a serving of donuts from Suzie Q...
- Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
@@stevezytveld6585 Cathy I love the old books too. Fell in love with them preinternet! And doesn’t that make me feel old!!!
Both pieces look incredible on you!!!
Oh thank you!
great video, lots of interesting things to take note of.
YOur comments on the rise of the shorts is exactly why I prefer separates over a jumpsuit - the shorts and top can be linked to each other, can be used with other pieces and more. And less likely to ride up!!!
Great work
Here in Australia we are entering Spring, so my focus is to add to my Summer wardrobe and adjust some of what I have - I have lost 14 kilos (30 pounds) in the past 6 months (lots of fluid...) so some things will need reducing.
I may try separates at some point. I just wanted to try the fun jumpsuit 😁
hooray!
Congratulations. That's Awesome. Love this channel.
Thank you! 😃
Those outfits are so pretty🥰
Thank you! 😃
You do make the best pockets!
I try! I found a pattern I liked and committed to it 😁
These look great, & are well worth all the finessing you did with the patterns.
I'll have to check out her channel - thanks for the recommendation!
And my tip for growing fantastic hollyhocks? Leave them alone and let the bees do their job 😁
Congratulations on your weight loss ❤I started Keto in May, still fighting the first 10. I’ll get there, patience. Cute outfits!
Hang in there! 💕
Ate those hollyhocks in the background of the backyard?
Indeed! Many hollyhocks and many bees in the many hollyhocks... 😳
Fantastic fit! Both garments look great on you and thanks for introducing me to the pattern, I'm adding it to my wish list. Wishing you the best with your journey.
Thank you! I hope it works as well for you, too 😃
Wonderful!!!
Thank you! 😃
@@MaireColclough Yeah, we would call those knickerbockers.
Low carb keto type seems to work best for me. I never realized there were carbs everywhere until I started looking. I function much better when I'm not in a hard nap after eating some carbs.
You are awesome!
Oh goodness...that's such a good point!
ooohhh maire i have a sewing tragedy, my faithful iron fell off a counter, something that has happened several times before, this time it exploded. im in mourning, i have had this iron since the 80s my late hubby bout it to go with the sewing machine, i think it was to calm me down after the 50 inch tube tv, tower stereo with tower speakers at the same time we just had our second child. he was in the dog house.
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that!
But...once you're ready...there are some pretty fantastic irons out there. I'm thinking of saving for one like Charlie of The Stitchery has - with its own base to set the iron on so the kittens are in less danger of their own folly.
Your outfits turned out beautifully!
They did! Thank you 😃
Nice outfits. I wish you all the best in your journey. My body is similar to yours. Thank You.
Thank you! You too!
Regarding anti itch stuff, Gold Bond has an extreme anti itch lotion available in the states and on Amazon. I too, am a snack for those critters.
I think we have some Gold Bond in a moving box somewhere 😁
You are a tasty snack! Those came out great! 😍 Was wondering as you were modeling the black onesie if the legs could be flared into a culotte-like shape? Thank you for sharing candidly, but not obsessively you weight reduction results, methods, and reasons. Loving your musical styling as well! 😎
The legs could *definitely* be made with a culotte pattern. I was thinking the Winslow Culottes (also by Helen's Closet) might be a good pairing.
Just...check the rise 🤣
I try not to obsess about my weight, even when I'm obsessed about my weight 😉
The mic looks like a makeup brush!! Still working on my Waterfall socks -- trying to decide on which heel!
Good luck with the socks! I just go on autopilot for heels 😁
Congratulations on your weight loss 😊
Thank you! 😃
Excellent job of altering the pattern to fit your body. (I also have to do alterations (sigh) so know the process well). BTW: I am seriously envious of your projector...seriously!!! I need to find one as a reasonable price. Thanks for the posting. \(^-^)/
Keep an eye on eBay! I found one for about $100 Canadian (plus $25 shipping). Definitely much more affordable than new 😃
@@MaireColclough I will keep my eye and eBay and my fingers crossed. 🤞
arachnae beat a goddess, one does not argue with her. i am lucky that i like spiders, arachnaes children, i am a beginner spinner and weaver long time sewist. dont forget less stress helps with weight.
Good points!
I don't mind spiders as long as I don't have to interact with them. These ones are...curiously social. 😁
@@MaireColclough there are some like that
If you can afford it, consider getting solar panels to cut the electricity cost of the A/C? 😊
It's on the list of possibilities 😃
You go girl!! You look amazing 🤩. Very interested in the full bust adjustment - I need to do this for my daughter. And the climate thermostat? Definitely broken. I’m visiting my folks in Brisbane, on the east coast of Australia and the temperature today was 33 C - on the last day of winter. Broke all known records.
33C on the last day of winter?! Yow! I know Australia is a much different climate than Western Canada, but that's even warmer than I imagined for your winter months!! 😳
It’s 10 degrees above average and NOT normal. Or maybe the new normal?!!

Hello from Lumby B.C, !!! Your channel is so good i cant even say. Thanks lady!!

I like your new clothes Mair, comfortable and versatile :). And your happy reaction on your own pattern changing succes was really really good to see, laughing out loud, 😽😽
Thank you 😊
Totally didnt follow what you said Charlie does, but Im just starting a 180 pound weight loss journey, hoping I can do some split side tops, skirts, and dresses to get me through the process with many less clothing changes.
She has good tutorials, so you'll figure it out 😁
@@MaireColclough Probably. Lol. Figuring bias tape will cover any finishes that I don't get. Lol. Probably doesn't help that I am hand sewing only.
I love your videos. Best wishes--
Thank you! 😃
The blue stripe fabric was a linen/cotton blend, cheap, and something I could wear in the sun if absolutely forced to go out of the house 🤣
You have just explained my grandfather's use of bird baths.
Whoa girl whaaaat 🤯 you are looking so healthy and happy! And what a cutiepie you were during the reveal! Be well angel!! 💕
Number Dyslexic has a real name, Dyscalculia
Indeed it is. I just figured more folks would be familiar with the term "dyslexia" over "dyscalculia" 😃
@@MaireColclough Sure, but I thought I'd add the term, as it might be helpful to someone.
Also if Arachne could bless my house juuuuust a little to help with the flies, that'd be nice
I'll try to pass along the message 😁
Will be here for all sorts of fiber- shenanigans.
I considered it! I just wasn't sure how it would look, seeing as how the shorts are already...um...short 😂
Those look wonderful on you.
Thank you so much, Nancy!! 💕
27:18 What’s the story behind the “May your weeds be wildflowers” cover??? I want to steal the phrase, but I’d also like to give proper credit. 😅
The cover(s) on my machines came with them. I believe they were made by the Husbeast's grandmother. I'm not sure where the phrase came from, but she was the wife of a progressive church minister so it was likely very well-intentioned 🙂
@@MaireColclough I mean, I’m good with the literal meaning… if it’s pretty enough, you don’t have to pull it!
@@kate_m. Indeed! 😁
Congratulations on a successful f.b.a. Not so scary once you actually start is it? If you can do one on a princess seamed pattern, a two dart bodice pattern will be a breeze. Then you will be moving darts all over the place making your own design choices. Great to see you beaming with pride in yourself.
It's all a learning curve 😃
Lookin good, kid!! Keep it up!
(I know how hard it is to do ANY moving when it’s hot outside 🫠)
I'm so thankful the temperature dropped a little...
