      They do, it looks similar to the LA’s Metro Subway Platform Signs but Older Version

      I know exactly what you mean.

      @cashvault1996 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, plain red looks boring. And you don’t have to focus your eyes moving with the texts that scrolls up for the advisories. They fit the entire advisory description on one side of a screen. That’s nice

    I think the old ones were better at providing information and were clearer to read, the white background they have is going to make distance reading very difficult, especially for those without good vision. I understand it's outdated technology but if it's not broken don't fix it, unless it's absolutely nessecary.

    • @cashvault1996
      @cashvault1996 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well that’s why there are multiple signs along the side of the platform, not just one you have to read from. I know so far they only have one of these new signs on a platform side, but I guess it’s a project that still in progress. Eventually all these new signs will replace and go where the old ones are.

    Don’t think they’ll gonna replace the Speak-&-Spell-esque sounding platform announcers, “George” and “Gracie” anytime soon…

    I’m not a fan of those signs for a few reasons. Number 1: When a train is approaching, the text is too small and the advisories are distracting. Number 2: On first glance you wouldn’t know that the rectangles in the line show car count. You would have to actually count the rectangles to get that piece of information. Number 3: Using an icon to represent Fleet of the Future trains doesn’t let passengers unfamiliar with the system to immediately know how many doors there are for positioning themselves on the platform. I may be biased because I like the old signs, but these new ones have issues with design layout that may leave passengers without information.
    On the otherhand, I like the video!

      I mean I can agree with you on the text being to small and that they need to get rid of the advisorys but if you think about it, A train is no smaller than 8 cars and the black tiles already represent where the doors are because fleet has the same positioning of doors as the legacy trains, the only difference with fleet trains is that there is one extra door in the middle on every car, But like you said it would be a little harder if your not familiar with the bay area and their transit.

    Is this gonna replace the old red displays? This looks 100% better.

    • @intotrains
      @intotrains  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, although what is displayed may change throughout the pilot stage. The new destination signs at most of the downtown San Francisco stations and the stations part of the BART Silicon Valley extension are already capable of displaying color and would just have a software update.
