I think the Messmer Flame Sword was a gift from Messmer, but not as a consolation prize, more so a piece of himself. He never let anyone but Marika his mother come close to him in love due to fear of his curse, the Abyssal Serpant. That part of him would destroy anything he may have loved, including Rellana. I believe that he kept her at arms length not because he didn't love her, but because he did truly love her. Her twin moon sorcery couldn't secure her station as a leader because though she is powerful, she lacks any ambitions to the mantle of leadership. She chose to serve others, not herself. (At least that is what I can tell)

Sadly wrong because the describtion of the twin moon swords make it clear that her affections were never going to be reciporated: "Carian light greatsword embedded with blue glintstone. Weapon of Rellana, the Twin Moon Knight. Two swords as a single armament. When two-handing, a straight sword engraved with golden flame will be carried in the left hand. **Here, and here alone, were moon and fire ever together.**"

05:49 I think her sole entry into ritual combat was against Messmer, the only othe thrusting shield is made of wood and gold and is also found in the shadow keep. I also think the Tree Spear was Mesmer original weapon, not only does it require the same stat spread both it also shares a heavy attack with the Messmer soldier spear.
Counter point to Mesmer and Relana's relationship: What if they were in love but it was a forbidden love or one not openly discussed? Her dueling shield IS found in the shadow keep; why there and not in Castle Ensis? Also, the twinblade description of, "here and here alone were moon and fire together," I can decipher that as "only in battle was she allowed to express that devotion to Mesmer." Just my two cents.🤷
It's also notable that the Japanese description of her swords implies that they were the only thing commemorating moon and fire together rather than being the only place the two were together.
Thing is, we never really fought Rennala, just a weak apparition made by Ranni. I'd like to think she's just as insane as Rellana. Nuking us with magic after magic that would even put mage hackers to shame.
This is a unique idea compared to others I've seen but it's an interesting one. I like this she's the embodied the characteristics of loyalty, commitment and honor. To me it always seemed like she forsake a comfortable life and power to follow a man who she either loves or idolized. Both are romantic in their own way, I suppose

I never understood how rellana got to the Land of Shadow. She must have already been there when it was shrouded or there must be another way to get there. Also, on a side note, I always thought Renalla was an albinaurac as she looks like the big albinaurac woman in the consecrated snowfield and the only time we see renalla standing is in an alternate reality in her boss fight. Also their village is underneath the moonlight altar and I feel Ranni could also have been an albinaurac as she has the tiny elden throne when we face morgott...when you would think Miquella would have the small chair.... Plus Rannis burnt body on the divine tower was quite large, she was maybe growing the same way as renalla..... Also, another side note, Radagon is an anagram of A Dragon.. No idea what that could mean lol, probably nothing. Thanks for a little more.... elden lore....
Rellana is one of my favourite characters. She's one of the most loyal characters in all of Elden Ring. Even though she never truely got what she wanted, she still stayed loyal to Messmer. Not to mention her boss fight is epic!

The other stats are quite simple, and their place in the lore is made even more clear by their Japanese names, but arcane isn‘t so clear. It‘s also interesting how Marais executioner‘s sword and Regalia of Eochaid use arcane (this is also with the Anchient meteoric ore greatsword from the DLC). Also, how dragon communion incantations require arcane could give some clues. This could be a cool idea for a video.

Is there any lore reason as to why the carian knights wear full plate armor everywhere on their body except their gloves? I’ve noticed most if not all knights wear thick leather gloves rather than armoured plate like they do everywhere else.
