    The guy with the black gloves is intimidating as heck.

      He rushes, and performs less efficient attacks as his body language become more and more agitated through the game.

    Are these naginata weighted at the end? I do not believe one would be able to wield a real naginata in such a way...

      The tip is bamboo - pretty much similar to a shinai.
      Real naginata is in my experience wielded differently - you heft it around with help of the rotation of your whole body.

      I never used this kind of Naginata but I used both Shinai and real katana, and it's VERY different, Shinai is lighter, yet llonger than avarage katana, and not to mention that the balance is complately different, I imagin e it's the same for naginata.

      They are supposed to be weighted at the end (I think)

    I wonder - how much those rules are similar to kendo? I find the difficulty of scoring ippon in kendo quite good and rewarding to art, however in naginata competition it seems even harder o.O

    They should teach this to hockey players.

    Lovely thrusts, but could somebody tell me why they don't go for deep body cuts when they are close?

    • @sighahnyde2215
      @sighahnyde2215 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      with long pole arms such as these there aren't a lot of things you can do up close that wont leave you completely defenseless. competition like this its less important to win than it is to not lose.

      @jedensnow1084 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** As a pole weapon, you can retract the end.

    • @sighahnyde2215
      @sighahnyde2215 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      adjective snow Of course you can. We can go on and on with what if this and what if that or you can do this or that. This is not the point I am trying make is that in martial arts it is more important to not lose than it is to win. for one reason or another they both decided that those opportunities were not worth the risk they would put them selves in.

    • @jedensnow1084
      @jedensnow1084 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Huh? You said that close range leaves you "completely defenseless". I'm simply saying that it does not.

    • @sighahnyde2215
      @sighahnyde2215 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      adjective snow Way to take me out of context... I said that there are few moves in close range that wouldn't leave you defenseless not that you are defenseless in close range. I don't know how you interpreted it that way because I said in black and white otherwise.
      But still this wasn't the point I am making. stop derailing me with semantics.

    I dont understand this.. whats a point giving hit? or do u get points for shouting the loudest? :D

    • @Simon-fc9hg
      @Simon-fc9hg 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The points are given to perfect strikes. A perfect strike has to have good edge orientation, footwork, shout, and body position for it to count along with hitting the target area with the proper part of the weapon.

    • @mr.q337
      @mr.q337 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My guess is samething with Kenpo, you actually shout out the body part you intention to hit, so they can score properly instead of lucky hit

  • @stellarwulf

    All of you are talking about the guy in black being the one that is getting agitated but he would’ve won in real combat because he hit him in the head in the beginning multiple times

    • @Algernir
      @Algernir 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That isn’t the point of the sport though, if it was then red wouldn’t have played the way he does so judging performance here and that doesn’t really work. The point is to make the best strike possible rather then be a combat simulation. Because of that, there are a lot of rules that determine if you receive a point for a hit or not so you may not receive a point even though the strike would have harmed the opponent had it been real.

    There are not enough valid targets. They should wear protective gear all over like the arm and thigh region. Otherwise, this is not a true representation of how naginatas might have been used.
