A great clip. Wonderful acknowledgment of the Battalion and its relationship to the people and the King. Too often we don’t know the true contribution NZ made in defending the empire and western democracy in both world wars. By the later part of the 2nd world war the NZ division in Italy was regarded as a veteran force with elite status. We march in the shadows of those soldiers who came before. Well done to those folks of the 2/1 RNZIR, carry those colours with pride.
The majority of those WW1 and WW2 battle honours belong to the TF Battalions that are the direct descendants of the TF Regiments that fought and won those battle honours. 2/1 RNZIR didn’t exist until 1973, so the only battle honour they could have legitimately earned would be for Afghanistan.
And that is the point. New Zealand is a small nation with a small sized army, compared to our commonwealth and allied brethren, it would be a crying shame for our country and those long ago units to not have their honours emblazoned and represented. Summa Pete!.
They couldnt even give the 28 Maori Battalion a proper flag for recognizing their deeds in 42 seperate battles. The current flag they have for the battalion was an insult to them as it recognized nothing like the other ones. It was just a red flag with NZ Division crest emblazoned on it no flash blue flag like the others 😅

Nice uploading in the mornig
In the early70s 2\1 RNZIR was the feeder Battalion to 1 RNZIR serving in Malaysia and then Singapore.
Magnificent Regiment.
Onward.

Lest We FORGET ⚒️⚔️⚖️🛡️🙏🗡️♾️😛😛😛!!!😛!
Not sure I understand the context of issuing battle honours from a different battalion.
