3:56 This has nothing to do with global warming-it’s about how and where homes are built in California. Fire codes were designed to minimize risks in fire-prone areas, focusing on defensible space, fire-resistant materials, and safe building practices. Many older homes were built before these codes were in place, and rapid development in wildfire-prone regions often ignored or bypassed them. California’s natural fire ecology, combined with poor planning, is the real driver behind these destructive fires.

I can see brick houses from my window that are older than the US and still in good shape. Houses there are built out of wood that’s just what it is.
@@markentwistNot really the time for jokes is it. Peoples houses are burning. But I get what you’re saying. I didn’t even really answer your previous point about the price of the houses, those multi million dollar homes are worth no more than 30 grand, probably. It’s the land they sit on that’s worth the $.
Any cease fire deal..??
💀
Timber houses are no good for any place on earth .English houses have been built with brick and stone, with block or brick internally, for many centuries now.timber burns but brick or stone doesn't. The American building inspectors need to take drastic action immediately or this natural disaster could happen again. I pray for all concerned in the disaster and hope they can gradually get back to a normal life .sending love from Manchester 🏴

Try to control the fire in PALESTINE (GAZA STRIP),
maybe the fire in PALISADES (California) will be controlled
If the resources were spent on saving own people instead of destroying OTHERS, this situation might not have happened
الله المستعان
California has this 🔥🔥🔥problem for years but nothing was done yet ✋🏻✋🏽… no extra water tanks in the area (just in case of 🔥) .. no fire prevention no extra hydrants … or even better water pressure just for that fire factor in the area …
That is shocking to me !!!!
I really feel sorry for this poor people over there …
This level of damage could not be stopped you really don’t understand how heavy the winds were strongest ive seen in my life the fire was moving so fast
High winds?? Dry conditions from lack of rain??
Revenge of NATURE
Nature bats last
Revenge of God for Their Bad Works
It's so sad.. I pray for those who lost their homes and lives.
In gaza too?
@@lovebach1898 it’s not sad at all, I like that the gov kept the hydrants empty and quoted climate change when they refused to use the sea water close by 😂😂
@romeolarenzo3929BRO What all many people die in gaza there more like 50.000+ don't fightback to me
These fires, and today's minor earthquake, seem to be telling me it's time to move to a safer place, before it's too late.
I've read warnings have been ignored for decades about building a lot in these areas where fires is a very high risk.
Looks like Maui.
No it doesn’t
God is not happy with the US
So is God responsible for all the natural disasters around the world where innocent people die and lose their homes? Must be very cruel and vengeful, this God of yours.

Hard to see the pictures you are showing with the huge bbc banner taking up 1/4 of the screen
It’s really not that hard… and it’s more like 1/9th

Global warming my butt. Poor forestry management. The Santa Ana winds have been blowing since the dawn of time.

@@Jc-ms5vvIt’s a fire in temperatures of less than 20 degrees. Explain to me how things naturally catch fire at those temperatures without human interference?
More and more people living in areas that are naturally dry , wooded and warm will lead to more fires and more damage
It’s just common sense
@@LS-mx1ge doesn’t matter how the fire started. It’s the fact they haven’t seen any rain in months and they had unprecedented winds
We live in cardboard boxes disguised as houses. what could possibly go wrong?
Made of wood because of earthquake codes dumbass
Thanks to building regulations created by the building industry. The Gulf Coast can tell you all about it.
Watched this in error, refuse to watch the channel for speedos
I'm so sorry 😐
BBC, what we need is the ongoing map of the affected areas
Residents will feel the GAZA pain
3:56 This has nothing to do with global warming-it’s about how and where homes are built in California. Fire codes were designed to minimize risks in fire-prone areas, focusing on defensible space, fire-resistant materials, and safe building practices. Many older homes were built before these codes were in place, and rapid development in wildfire-prone regions often ignored or bypassed them. California’s natural fire ecology, combined with poor planning, is the real driver behind these destructive fires.
They gotta push that narrative, because their superiors told them too. It’s about money.
They all call it wildfires
My God, it looks like Hiroshima 1945... prayers for our citizens on the West Coast. Terrible...
I do not know how to express my sorrow for it! I wish and I send my love to you all.

يالة من جحيم ترامب هههه
How is President elect Trump have anything to federal policies or decisions over the past week. If you want to talk about how since 2018, he advocated and implemented policies to improve the resources and response by forest management and water access for fire fighting. We can talk about that from his previous term.
Fuck gaza

Youd think theyd use non flammable materials to build homes
American house building is pathetic.
Deepest simpathy for all that people who lost everyting, but mostly for those losses they won´t be able to replenish. Solidarity from México.
BBC coverage is so much better than the local coverage.
Soft BBC removed references to someone describing the scene as if an "atomic bomb" had hit though. I wonder who they were trying not to offend.
God wants to make California a national park
I love how they look for someone to blame it on
always a telltale Liberal idea of propaganda.
They are already blaming the homeless saying it was arson
How did he lose his cat? Was he not home ?
Maybe he was at work and couldn't get back to his house because the police had put road blocks up.
He left the cat to fend for itself...
A lot of people were at work and the fire moved so fast that they couldn't get home. Absolutely heartbreaking to think about your pet trapped in the house when this happens. I can't imagine. It moved really fast and there were embers falling everywhere. It very quickly became too dangerous for people to go back home.
So sad to see this devastation and people losing their home 😢😢 may God protect both humans and animals 🙏🙏 sympathies with people how's homes burned and Rest in peace to departed souls due to this catastrophe!
Newsome was told what to do and he didn't.
How did this happen in the winter? In my experience it is difficult for fires to continue in the winter, the trees are full of water
Winter is basically a uk summer in America so not enough rain to hold off the element of fire, plus that whole area was in a drought up until 2 years ago when it rained a lot which made rapid growth of shrubs, trees and grass which is perfect fuel for the fire. Which is why you see the fire you see today
California is warm all year round. They haven't had any rain since October. The ground was like tinder ready for one spark to light it. They just got out of a severe drought early last year but have had almost no rain since then.
@@mattkeating2657 Why nobody took notice of such conditions and took preventive measures?
Water management was not done well. Don’t know what he’s saying. There’s water shortage
No there is NOT a "water shortage" and people need to stop saying this. There was plenty of water. The fire was so enormous the facilities to deliver water were over whelmed. There was water but, not enough water pressure for a time.
wrong
@@rca6576 at the end of the day there was still no water or not enough water in the fire hydrants when it was desperately needed. Plenty of water? Sure. But where was the water when the firefighters need it? That’s water shortage regardless. And that is a systemic issue of the city
@@tiffy623 You basically just said what I said but, reframed it. There was plenty of water and if there is plenty of water that is not a "water" shortage. The system was overwhelmed and water pressure was lost due to that. I will with hold an opinion on whether or not that's a system issue of the city until I know more about exactly how much water pressure a city that size has the ability to provide.
Building codes, forestry management
Sadly the all-powerful, deep-pocketed US lumber industry lobbies hard against any change in building regulations & material specification...
