Oh yes …the back to school supply list . I recall those days well. Now my daughter has those lists for her kids. I notice some say they have never heard of indoor and outdoor shoes for school; it was always a thing when my daughter was in school..and her kids have the same requirement in their school and they are in the US. So maybe it’s not a thing everywhere but just in some places . I think areas like ours where we have really messy winter conditions it becomes more important to have separate footwear at all times , just to keep the school classes and hallways cleaner. The custodians already have a lot of work to do maintaining the floors at the best of times. Looks like you have it all in hand there Lindsay…they are all supplied and ready for their new school year! 👍 😊.

Excitement, fun and a little sadness, it's all a part of our kids going back to school. No one likes to see the end of Summer, but of course once they go back and see all their friends, and get back into a routine it will be an easier transition, especially with so many fun holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas following back to school so quickly. You did a great job shopping for their lists, there is nothing better than new school supplies. I love Audrey's new sparkly lunch box and Jacob picked out a nice water bottle as well as Ben who picked out a great new pair of shoes. Thanks for sharing it all with us Lindsay.

Summer just flew by for everyone. It’s hard to think back to school when it’s 900 degrees outside. Seems like the standard school supplies everyone has. Even with my son being homeschooled, we don’t want summer to end lol. I hope the kids had an amazing first day back and have a great school year. Can’t wait for Emily to do school lunch unpacking :)

Our kids are grown. The last one graduated in 2018. I remember those days of back to school shopping. The things your kids brought back after last year just shows that they don't even use half the things the school requires. I found that to be true as well. Summers just don't seem to last as long as they did when I was a kid. Lol. I always hated to see school start back, I always loved having mine home for summer break. It goes by so fast. Before you know it, Jacob will be graduating high school. It's interesting about the indoor school shoes. Is that true for all of Canada? I can see where it would help keep floors clean. Yes, some of the school supplies seem excessive, but I do try to send what they ask for, for the most part. Time goes by too quick, and kids grow up too fast! We're trying to keep ours "kids" for as long as we can, I think we're doing a good job! I'm not sure if the indoor sneakers is true for all of Canada or not. We just just grew up thinking everyone did it! Lol it does help keep things clean especially during winter and spring. Have a wonderful weekend! 😊

Now our kids get nothing for free and we pay more school tax, go figure. 😊 We get a list also of what's needed. I have a 3rd & 5th grader. It's so expensive isn't it. My youngest is in the 9th grade this year. We weren't given a school supply list. Everyday for the first week of school teachers were verbally telling the students what supplies were needed. Frustrating. Since all the work is done on a Chromebook (which the school provides for a fee, even if the student already owns one), I was shocked at the amount of supplies required. School started August 7th here. Hope your children have a wonderful school year.

Great haul. We are still in school here. We don't get ❤a big break as winter here. Over Christmas we get six weeks. Our school holidays are broken up into smaller 2 weeks several times a year. I miss being in school as I loved the supplies shopping

@@533134 yes, they are folders with fasteners to hold paper, we always called them duo tangs here. The kids keep they're crayons and pencils etc in their hard pencil case, or just in their desk. Some classes have a cubby for each child to keep their supplies.😊

In Ontario we have junior kindergarten (started the year my kids turned 4-so my older one began at 3-bday late September). My daughter just started grade 12 in HRCE. I was shocked that earlier this week in the ‘back to school email’, instead of saying what supplies are needed, they instead said that “if your child needs supplies, please contact the school and they will be provided to them confidentially.” With over 1,500 people unhoused people locally, I’m grateful that the school district is more concerned about students being present in class, than what they have and can bring to class. We could afford it at the time, and it helped that it was recommended to buy school supplies at Dollarama, instead of Walmart or Staples, but when my daughter was in grade primary, she needed 40 sharpened pencils, two red ‘giant/jumbo’ pencils, two pairs of scissors, four packs of crayons, two packs of pencil crayons, two pencil sharpeners, four white erasers, three sets of sneakers (indoor, outdoor and gym), a bunch of scribblers, duo-tangs, four large gluesticks, two large (147ml) bottles of school/white glue, a white board (4”x6”), two white board erasers, eight white board markers etc. We STILL have the glue, scissors, erasers, crayons, pencil crayons etc. My daughter _insists_ on using the same supplies every year, even scribblers that aren’t, and honestly never are, used up, along with duo-tangs, pocket folders etc. So even with using the same items year after year, she still hasn’t used up everything that’s been bought. The first year she required looseleaf, we also bought the amount that was listed. She _just_ opened the last pack this week, when getting her binder ready for school.

A lot of families would find it difficult to buy all the supplies kids need for school, I'm glad they recognized that and are more concerned about kids actually attending school! Depending on your budget, your kid’s love of Math and the price difference at the store, it might be worth upgrading the calculator a bit early. When my daughter was in grade seven, instead of getting her the scientific calculator that she needed, I instead bought her a graphing calculator that she’d need in high school, so I wouldn’t have to replace it in a few year’s time. I’m on a low income & fixed budget, but in our case, it was worth it, so I’d save money in the long run. Mind you, she doesn’t have siblings that she can pass the calculator down to _and_ she LOVES Math, Science & STEAM, so when she goes to university next year, she’ll also be able to use the calculator that I bought her six years ago.

My kids are long grown and my grandkids are teenagers but boy, those years and the lists and the ridiculous things and amounts some teachers or schools asked for. If I could go back an d home school I would. Is that an option in Canada? Yes we have had for a long time the indoor, outdoor shoes but not when mine were in school. I don't know the specifics of Canada but here considering all things one pays for to cover schools and more but then govt spending or appropriation it is disgusting that parents have to provide Kleenex and more. When I was in school and now we are talking more than half a century ago, a child had to have PRANGE paints and ONE store in our small town sold them, pricey as could be and no other options for parents who did not have that kind of money for far more than one child. I am way past those years but man was I irritated with the school system by the end of my kids' years and with some teachers as well. Like the very same day send them home in winter needing to bring a Mexican meal for the next day and she assigned what meal. We lived in a small town and you could not even find such stuff at that time much less you find out and need to go back out with kids in tow on a week night after working all day. I mean do THEY live real lives? To dictate such ridiculousness? This was high school and Spanish class BUT I went to school with the teacher! She grew up IN THE TOWN before marrying someone when she went to Spain or some such. She well knew you could not get this kind of stuff in our town back then. Sorry for the rant. I don't envy ya and with four soon, well, it never gets easier as to the school stuff. We all want to do our best and be involved but it gets very old.... Seeing these lists brings back the trauma LOL.
@@venusgal2706 times have certainly changed, haven't they? Teachers spend so much money out of their own pocket on things for our kids, so I don't mind providing the supplies. I feel like that list is a bit outrageous. What 2nd grade needs 4 packs of pencils the first day of school. I would only be sending them with one of everything and replace as needed.

When I was in school and now we are talking more than half a century ago, a child had to have PRANGE paints and ONE store in our small town sold them, pricey as could be and no other options for parents who did not have that kind of money for far more than one child.
I am way past those years but man was I irritated with the school system by the end of my kids' years and with some teachers as well. Like the very same day send them home in winter needing to bring a Mexican meal for the next day and she assigned what meal. We lived in a small town and you could not even find such stuff at that time much less you find out and need to go back out with kids in tow on a week night after working all day. I mean do THEY live real lives? To dictate such ridiculousness? This was high school and Spanish class BUT I went to school with the teacher! She grew up IN THE TOWN before marrying someone when she went to Spain or some such. She well knew you could not get this kind of stuff in our town back then.
Sorry for the rant. I don't envy ya and with four soon, well, it never gets easier as to the school stuff. We all want to do our best and be involved but it gets very old....

@@venusgal2706 times have certainly changed, haven't they? Teachers spend so much money out of their own pocket on things for our kids, so I don't mind providing the supplies. It just seems some is a bit excessive.
Homeschooling is definitely an option in Canada. I know a few people who do it.

I feel like that list is a bit outrageous. What 2nd grade needs 4 packs of pencils the first day of school. I would only be sending them with one of everything and replace as needed.
@@FredFlintstone-m2n some of it is a bit excessive. Some of the teachers do say that you don't need to send everything on the first day. But I'd rather have it done.
I don't understand why do the parents need to purchase school supplies.
