Definitely not returning it. Damn. This is perfect for what I need it for. It has a really different character. I can forgive the slight corner sharpness and vignetting because I usually manually vignette a lot of my photos. I love it! It's so unique. Also fwiw I'm using this on the z mount. From what I saw in your video to what I've experienced thus far... I think on the Z system the corners seem slightly less blurry than on your example on the Sony system. It's actually surprisingly sharp in the center too. The CA is there but it doesn't bother me. This lense shot wide open is perfect for B&W photos. I can't wait for the weekend. I wanna go out and do some early morning photos.
Too many quality used Sony AF models available at this price point. If the optical performance were better I may have considered it. I shot my A7iii for a year with my manual focus Leica M lens and got some nice images but since I went autofocus they have been sitting on a shelf. Reliable eye autofocus has been a game changer. Enjoyed the review though... thanks.
I totally understand the use and need of AF these days and I agree with those sediments. However, lenses like this literally don't exist with AF. It's the "world’s first full-frame 35mm lens with a f/0.95 Aperture" Therefore if you want that 35mm view and also the most incredible back ground separation/ dreamy bokeh, then this lens is an option to consider if you are willing to focus of course. All the best and thank you very much for sharing your thoughts :)
@@Jason_Hermann I may look for one on the used market in a few years. Its a specialty lens that would have limited usage day to day for me. Impressive for the price though. Lenses like this were 10 grand back in the day.
True. Price is high. I have other LAOWA FF lens for L-mount, but... Manual focus lens are very limited in use. There is impossible shoot something what move. Even with focus peaking. So you can´t it use in a lot of situation and will lost some good photos. I shoot sometimes animals in ZOO and it is hell to focus on eyes if animals move. It is reason, why o lot of people will buy slower lens, but with AF. At day there is no problem with light even with slower lens and at bad light you can use higher ISO because new cameras do not have big problem with higher ISO (most times ISO 6400 is good). For example this is ISO 40 000 + 1/2500s (Bird start moving and I do not have much time for change exposure time so I just scroll button and shoot and hope I get any good image) photo from my S5 without any correction: instagram.com/p/CN7J1BOj_cn/?
Yeah I hear ya. I just can't see a lens like this having zero fringing at f/0.95 for such a relatively reasonable price point. If the lens was $3000 I would expect zero fringing for example... I really appreciate your comments Bernhard, thank you! Jay
The first video to actually show focusing tools.... Thanks
Its on sale right now for $650, i just ordered one from B&H. If I don't like it I can just return it. We will see soon. Thanks for the video 👊
did you already get it
Excellence review review I love the part of focus magnifier combine with the focus peaking.
it is pretty amazing
thank you

"a little bit of purple fringing" is an understatement, sadly... :-(
