  • On this channel I usually review music gear and audio equipment and I don't normally make demo songs or anything, but I decided to post a song as more of a preview of a learning experience that you can get with using more analog gear with minimal understanding of music editing.
This song only used two instruments and I did zero post processing besides matching levels how I wanted in Reaper and the beginning of the song was playing a cut part of the song in reverse. I feel people get really hung up on learning a lot of the ins and outs of a DAW (digital audio workstation), but for me with very minimal understanding of music editing I was able to accomplish making a 3-minute-long song in a few hours. I'm more of a live player, but I wanted to illustrate that if I could do it with little working knowledge of Reaper, I'm sure somebody with a little more experience in working with DAW’s could make a masterpiece. The biggest takeaway from this is if you're a competent musician you can make quality music and you don't need computer software to hold you back.
The gear I use for this song:
Amp: Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister 18 Watt
Cabinet: 1x12 loaded with Celestion Vintage 30
    Microphone for cabinet: Shure SM57
Drums: Roland JD-Xi keyboard running mono
Synths: Roland JD-Xi keyboard running mono
Guitar: Randy Rhoads flying v style Jackson with Korean body and USA neck.
Pickup on guitar: Jackson J-50-BC pickup in bridge position
Effects pedals through Effects Loops on amp: Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay, Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Nano Reverb, Walrus Audio Slotva Multi-Function Reverb
Effects Pedals through front of amp: Catalinbread Naga Viper (Treble Boost), Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer, MXR M135 Smart Gate
The guitar tone I was going for is somewhat 80’s high gain. Because I am using all analog guitar gear this is however my own unique sound. I am a strong proponent of using analog gear versus plugins because you do get a unique sound that is your own sound, and it is a little bit harder to get with plugins but that's just my humble opinion.
I hope you enjoyed this song. Thanks for listening and thanks for reading the background and reason for me making this. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message or leave a comment and I'll be happy to help.
