    Hi Chuck , love your reviews, I got this piano Dec 2021 and I have to say I love it! Its like Casio made a piano perfect for me! I am a beginner and was doing well when my last keyboard died after only 4 months(WK1800) and have not played for 13 years, yea I bought a lemon. Its rare but it happens. So I am starting again with the CDP-S350 and I could not be happier. Greetings from the island of Barbados.

    My wife and I just looked at this keyboard alongside the Casio Privia PX-S1000 and 3000. Given the similarity of the form factor, we expected them to feel similar. Actually, we (as beginners, mind you) found the action of this keyboard far more natural and less idiosyncratic than the PX-S. And we were comparing to $5k Clavinovas across the showroom!
    Really fascinated by this model, but this review may just have cinched it for us. Thanks so much for the detailed info!

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting, since they both have the same physical action. The difference is the PX-S has "smart" (software) control over where any key is at any time in its travel path, which makes rapid repetitions more natural.

      @@john-gt1ys Short answer... It's great.
      Long answer... It's not very loud so I have to amplify it, but that's not a problem for me as amplification was always the plan. I've got the S350 & I bought the S150 for my mother, both are great pianos, the 350 has more sounds and features. Both have identical keybeds that feel great. Only buy the 350 if you want more organ/string/synnth sounds. There's better keyboards out there but they cost a lot more.

    • @Zoco101
      @Zoco101 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      MH77: Whoa! You are comparing two vastly different instruments. There's a host of digital pianos in between these two. The actions and sounds and features are vastly different at the two ends of this group.
      If you want to use any external amplication, that's tricky without proper line-out jacks. The CDPs are really home pianos that you can move about easily. They're good for students in temporary accommodation. In an emergency, you can gig on one.
      If you just want a home piano and you have a fixed place in your living room, consider the Yamaha YDP Arius 164R - not to be confused with lesser Arius models. Costs just over 1000 dollars. Looks great and it's like having a good upright for the price of a cheap secondhand one. If you need an entry-level home studio/gigging instrument, consider the Yamaha P-121. It's only about a hundred dollars more than the CDP-350, but it has many more features including the fantastic CF sample, plus line outputs. . It has slightly fewer keys, but that can be an advantage. The P-125 has 88 keys but costs a little more. The Roland RD-88 stage piano is bristling with features, but still costs less than the Yamaha P-515.
      I think Yamaha got it wrong with the P-515. The "P" stands for portable, but it weighs too much for lots of informal gigging, while lacking certain stage features needed for heavy-duty gigs. As a gigging piano, it must be humiliated by the lighter, feature rich RD-88. So the P-515 is a lovely home studio instrument (must be a joy to practise on) which is good for occasional gigs too. It replaces the P-255, which was easier to lift. I still use that for light gigging.

    Well great video and demo. I've just bought one of these a few months ago. Though it has some very useful convenient features - I do find the piano tones are all so metallic sounding and nothing like the mellowness or complexity of an acoustic piano which of course has real felt striking strings. Whether Digotal Signal Processing or real live Digital sampling - it all sounds so empty and lacking warmth. I have to say I've been associated with acoustic pianos as my profession was a Piano Tuner Technician here in the UKso I have had 25 years playing tuning thousands of pianos, upright spinets or grands, concerts or domestic situations. I once played a Yamaha Digital DGX to a singer who was a bass singer in a large local choir and he said "I have to say it has all the cold charm of chucking a ton of coal down the cellar steps" I knew what he meant as he was serious. But in its favour I think it's a very clever sensitive touch and expressive instrument and I can live with it - especially as I never have to tune it! And it isn't affected by a cold room or central heating so what's not to like?

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Coming from your background with acoustic pianos, nothing in stage pianos or digital pianos will sound quite right. For quality piano sounds, Nord and Dexibell offer the closest IMO, but when it comes to key action the Kawai MP11se is king, followed by the Roland FP-90X. Another model to consider both sound and action-wise would be the Casio PX-S7000 or PX-S6000. For Nord, it would be the 'Piano 5' model and for Dexibell, the S7 Pro, S10 and forthcoming S8. Next time you go to your local retailer, try out the aforementioned models and brands.

So get the cord, and hook one end of the cord to your keyboard and the other end into your speaker or Amp. See if that works. But Someone said on GC website that you can’t do it. Hans, I have a CDP-S350 and a PX-S3000. The actions feel identical to me with the sound off, and they respond the same in Logic over normal-resolution USB MIDI. My guess is that the Smart-Scaled feature is a result of processing in the PX-S pianos. However, that processing (plus the great piano sounds) really makes for a noticeably more expressive playing experience. For those who care, the CDP-S keyboards can't transmit Hi-Res MIDI Velocity like the PX-S1000/3000 can. All that being said, if you like the PX-S action, you'll enjoy the feel of the CDP-S models, too.

      @@tronlady1 The piano sound is much nicer and responsive on the PX-S3000 and the design of the whole keyboard is slicker. One big drawback of the CDP-S350 is that you can't adjust the balance of the sounds in layer & split configurations. This is why I've never used the CDP-S350 on a gig. I will say that the user interface on the CDP-S350 is easier to navigate.

      Chris, do you mean in this video or when playing a CDP-S350 in person? I have a CDP-S350 and haven't noticed anything like that. If you mean in this video, can you reply with a time you hear it the most? I'll give a listen and compare it to the same tone on my CDP-S350.

      @@rodtompkins Nope, just meant the video. It was most prominent with the low notes. BUT.. Listening to it again (same computer!) I don't hear it anymore. Must have been something odd with my sound that got fixed on a reboot.
