      @mac1e7 5 ปีที่แล้ว +60

      It's wireless. Simply not enough bandwidth to fit the audio for the drivers and mic over BT.
      Oh, it also reduces your sound quality while the mic is active for the same reason.
      That's why you're better off using a wired headset for gaming or a separate mic like ModMic with whatever headphones you'd like.

      The funny thing is, it already exists for the game Rez.
      Also, I always wanted a gaming vibrator so I could get haptic feedback somewhere while playing with a mouse and keyboard.
      Kojima actually uses vibration effects in games to further immerse players.
      It could easily work with XInput and DS4 on PC.
      It would probably be something you put on a mouse or gloves you hook up to your computer.

    I bought these a few weeks ago and thehypersense is amazing with the right music. You have to listen to music that is built for bass like electronic and hip hop like linus is saying. If you are listening to anything that isn't designed for bass, you can turn the haptics off. Think of the haptics on the headphones as little subwoofers for your head, because that is what they are. Reminds me of this haptic subwoofer kit you could put in your attic above your theater room and it would shake the walls making the whole room bassy underneath emulating what a high wattage subwoofer would deliver except you wouldn't be able to even hear it outside the house, but a subwoofer you d hear it down the block.

    This is old tech... and rather manipulative too.
    There have been force-feedback headsets like this for the last 10-ish years at least. The first one I know of is the eDimensional FX Gaming Headset. A decent-ish start to my audiophile journey, but ultimately a lesson in how deceptive this sort of thing is.
    As noted; in games this is actually kind of amazing. For movies and music - especially music - it quickly loses its appeal.
    However if you really use it long enough you slowly start to realize what is really going on and it becomes more distraction than enhancement. The last headset I used with this feature was the ROCCAT KAVE 5.1 True Surround Sound Gaming Headset. While it was REAL surround sound, doing what VSS couldn't, it was tinny and weak audio that needed the force feedback to emulate bass. When you can only feel the bass and not hear it, things get awkward quickly.
    Now here we have two headsets that have done what this does. One was $60 and the other was $100. This 'thing' is $150. It adds a niche feature to gaming at the cost of a good mic and an audiophile listening experience for cinema and music. Problem is a lot of PC gamers listen to things like podcasts, Netflix, TH-cam, music, etc. while playing games. Ultimately making this headset a niche of a niche gimmick.

    Hey Linus! I would love to see you talk more about audio gear in a similar light as display tech. Similar to how you measure color accuracy and such on display monitors, speakers can be measured for accuracy across the audio spectrum as well. Specs posted by manufacturers are often misleading and not very useful for determining sound quality. The world would benefit from, at the very least, understanding what the specs really say. For example, when razor says the freq. response is 20hz-20khz, this is technically correct. But it doesn't account for the varying amplitudes across the freq. range. An episode on tech quicky or even a diy speaker build where you take and explain measurements SOUNDS like a great idea ;)

    • @samuliauno8163
      @samuliauno8163 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Trick is, most HiFi speakers aren't trying to be "reference", ie. put out the same signal as their input is. So in principle, measuring how well consumer-targeted speakers match the input signal is futile. Studio monitors, on the other hand, try to match the signal in the best way possible, but those aren't really aimed at normal consumers.
      Aknowledging this fact is helpful, though, so I'm not against the TechQuickie.

    • @wio27
      @wio27 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Samuli Auno I agree with you that most of these products aren't going for a flat response, but it is still helpful to the consumer knowing if the product is boosting certain frequencies, and by how much.
      There's plenty of reason to know the sound profile of different speakers, regardless of whether they are aiming to be "reference" or not. The simplest being so consumers can make informed decisions about buying speakers that fit their application.
      Most of these companies just slap "DEEP BASS" on their packaging and call it a day. But how deep is the bass?? Does it come at the expense of the highs? If I'm looking for gaming headphones, are footsteps boosted? Gunshots? How much does this bass boost feature actually do?
      Now of course the typical person may not even care. But I think LMG's audience are generally people looking to make informed purchases, and would be entertained by some geeky audio tech.
      Cheers

    • @BruceRichardsonMusic
      @BruceRichardsonMusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There are dozens of quality channels dealing with audio. Pro Tip, though...nothing with Beats, Razer, et. al. will have truthful specs. Consumer brands are all essentially price-point products that in no way will approach accountable specs. And as far as bass is concerned, there is no skimping on the basic physics. You will not achieve a flat response from any typical untreated room, because bass frequencies will be destroyed by the modal/nodal interference and in most cases, the too small areas for those frequencies to develop. And once you've treated a good candidate room, you can't get a flat response south of 30-40 hz without large cone surfaces and WATTS. See Velodyne, Bag End, Genelec, and other infrasonic-quality subwoofer systems for the kind of systems recommended for achieving a particular decibel level.
      My experience is in film design and music, and audio post. We need those systems in order to "know" what we're affixing to a product. And anyone in the business can tell you that even well equipped commercial theaters are a crapshoot. We don't even try to accommodate home installations beyond filtering impractical subsonic information, etc...frequencies which would at best not be reproduced at all in well-filtered systems, or at worst, would just eat amplification power and tear up drivers needlessly for no practical benefit. Most systems that CAN reproduce truly infrasonic content (20hz and below) are meticulously filtered, and most of those systems are one variant or another of a box which is tuned to roll off those frequencies, then brute-forced with sheer amplification power and DSP to bring them back up to "flat" in a controlled manner (the Velodyne/Bag End approach).

      1) I can’t dispute that there are dozens of quality channels dealing with audio. However, it’s very unlikely those channels cover the same products as Linus. Even if they did, they won’t reach the same amount of viewers as Linus can.
      2) As mentioned earlier, the goal with these types of headphones is rarely to achieve a flat response.
      3) Yes it’s difficult to achieve subsonic frequencies. A lot of air needs to be moved. It’s a lot easier with headphones (but rarely done well) boosted or not. It’s still a good idea to post measurements.
      4) I doubt most people at home are watching these videos in hopes of doing a professional install on their own. I’m simply pointing out that similar to how they do with display accuracy, it is interesting to know how cool/warm an audio product can be.
      I’m sure you know much more about speakers than I do and everything you said was as far as I know correct. I’m simply pointing out a practical reason to point out a significant, measurable, spec that is often not listed by manufactures LMG covers

      It’s probably just a drug test for something. They usually have to shave off a square patch from the back of your head.

    I had a set of headphones that had rumble packs in each cup about 13 years ago that were activated by low frequency audio, exactly the same principal as these headphones, they just weren't configurable. They also had lights on the side that were volume reactive, made lying about the fact that friends had just thrown a nade near me in CoD2 very difficult. They were pretty good until I broke the cable snagging it on my chair. Nothing exactly new Razer, but it's about what I expect from them anyway.

      I had a set of genius ones around 2008. Were decent for the price, but used aa batteries for the rumble and audio was of course wired

    You can make your own "chair rumbler" by simply buying a "bass shaker", hook it up to your sound, and then mount it onto the back of the chair. Works better if you run it through an amp with low pass filter so it only plays the low frequency sounds like the "booms" and "bangs" etc.
    You can make a mini wrist mounted rumbler for cheap by buying a tiny Ac motor, and mounting that to your wrist with a wrist band or something.
