IMPORTANT: The photos of the women up until minute 9:35 is NOT MARY ELLEN PLEASANT!
In reality it is Queen Emma of Hawaii. While investigating sadly her pictures came up so I believed it was Pleasant but, I was Mistaken! Supposedly they fairly looked alike! Sorry for the confusion!

And the Bell family was able to establish generational wealth,
having stolen it. Mrs. Pleasant's descendants were deprived of
both the knowledge and the benefits of her life which should have
been available to them... another gut-wrenching robbery.

It’s a shame we don’t see very many women with her qualities propped up on the mainstream. it’s all these horrid lying, cheating, swindling, fake and socially engineered created personas we see lifted up as bastions of women’s rights and protectors of children when they’re anything but. People back then had so much integrity and grit. They couldn’t be purchased or swayed by the all mighty buck. This was a real woman for sure.

@Windigo1919,I used to find history boring but when it's from the perspective of someone who lived through it, it's fascinating.
My grandmother was born in 1896, and when she talked about the first car and airplane etc, I could listen for hours.
I love reading about the settlers and early mining towns, just the day to day life.
They were such strong people, you can't help but admire them. we really don't appreciate how easy we have it compared to what they lived through.

Nicole Perron same, i thought it was boring too until my mid teens. Except for when my grandma who was born in 1919 told me about her life, how she met my grandpa while they were studying at university and he was part of the anti Nazi movement here in Sweden and later went to the war in Finland as a volunteer. My mom has lots of letters between them during their time apart and it’s just precious.

Marcia Baker it’s actually quite common, even today. She was in a vulnerable position and-per a point made by someone in this reply thread-so was Bell’s widow...and, questionably, her son. Lord knows what the nature of this circle of interaction was. This was a short survey of a life full of many intrigues and avant-garde enterprises. It would have so nice for Mrs. Bell and Mdm Pleasant to have been visceral allies...but, no.

Suggestion: How about doing a story on the mysterious “Leatherman” who for 30 odd years walked the same circuitous route through NY, Massachusetts, and Connecticut at such a regular and steady pace that about every month he would appear back in the same town he’d been before. He eschewed handouts from those who offered them and he rarely spoke and shied away from people wanting his photograph. All his clothes were of pieces of leather, sewn together. He eventually passed away from mouth cancer in a cave in New York on a Wintry day. No one knew who he really was nor where he came from but some said he had come from France where he’d been a young leather merchant engaged to the daughter of his wealthy employer, but when this fell through its said he became despondent and began his eccentric travel route in America.
