@amyelizabethweafer I am sorry to say i too disagree. I have been a singing examiner for four years now. This piece is defiantly a soprano piece. You have to have a very strong head voice to make the last note resonate and sound great. Lauren didn't. In an interview with radio one she stated she done this song as a challenge , but it confirmed to here she was a mezzo/alto-but said she liked the challenge within it.
Great rendition, both the singing and the joyful performance. I also feel a male cover in e flat would be awesome, especially the last note (can’t stop imagining Matthew Morrison singing it).
She's a mezzo belter - and if you're used to singng mezzo it's hard to switch into soprano!! That makes it easier for real sopranos (but none of the girls there were sops :( )
@amyelizabethweafer if you've done this song a thousand times..you'll be aware that the final note in the actual score isn't a B flat anyway. i think ALW encouraged her to go for something extra. also, i too have a very well trained ear.
@4minutewarning I have a very well trained ear..I've done this song a thousand times.. and a B flat is not at all high for a soprano..even most mezzo's can hit it :) She's usually brill but she just had a bad night..:(
What a fantastic performance!,there is only one true star and that's Lauren, she was robbed! She was probably too good for this anyway,i know she'll go on to becoming a huge star,Good luck,Lauren, you were simply the best!!!!
there is no shame if they changed the key to make her feel more comfortable cause she can still sing and did very well. good job! in theater, its common to change like that
Her voice was the most beautiful, but I really hate her acting, which is a pity. At least Andrew Llyod Webber sounds like he's gonna sign her for something regardless. Very talented, glad she didn't win but equally, she deserves to become something big!
I agree - I have been taking classical lessons since last year, and while I am stil just a learner, her final note took me by complete surprise. Why would she want to do that?? Otherwise I enjoyed it.
@sexiishannona she hit it in the rehearsal but they told her to do the spinning round which put it off, all to make Danielle's performance seem stronger.
Yeah I'm sure she'll do well! I was glad the other two made the final in the end..I think acting and looks-wise they were the best for Dorothy...felt so bad for Sophie in the end :(
Oy. Its a no for me. I suppose I'm simply too accustomed to a voice as golden as Julie's it make me a bit skeptical of anyone to tries a song she's sang. Don't use grace-notes in excess, it hurts the ears.
everything was sooo wonderful.......... except that last note its actually written to stay at a G but no she just had to go ruin it and go all they way up to a B - it's written that way for a reason
@GracieGurl100 Sorry i dont usually get involved in this kind of thing, and i am a trained singer, but i disagree with that statement, just my own opinion, but not every person that goes to a west end show is trained and notes dont sound out to them. If the sound out, most of the time, its because they're out. For the record, i dont think Lauren's note was out, im just saying in relation that that statement!
@RozLaChimmer Of course they knew it, can you imagine Judy Garland wearing any of those Dorothy dresses? They pretty much showed as much leg as they could get away with
@amyelizabethweafer hang on i never said anything about it being high for a soprano!?! ALW said that he heard this soprano sound from lauren..but she isn't and doesn't claim to be a proper operatic soprano singer. so considering she did pretty well i though...excellent potential anyway. it wavered when she span and had some technique issues...but people are just going "it was out of tune" it wasn't a tuning issue.
@murbuzz Well she blinks a lot, murdered 'On My Own' and was the only contestant who couldn't actually sing 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' properly. Of course they needed to make her look better.
@Deeeplyshallow Haa just saying, all the girls have great legs, and I think the producers knew it. There were hardly any trousers or long dresses in the series! xD
Fantastic performer through out the show - love her. Ok last night was slightly off but shewas the only performer who didnt have bum notes throughout the show - a shame everywhere homes in the one bum note she did in the show - which is probably why is doing so well now in the west end.
That last night wasn't out of tune, it was fine :) Besides, not many people can get up to top E flat... Anyways, Lauren was too good to be Dorothy. She'd better go on to do great things, I love her :)
Leonie Schliesing you don't need to be a professional singer to know a sour note. Any musician or anyone with good hearing really could tell when a note doesn't sound right.
@brookekennedy25 - You're right, and better things than Love Never Dies too. Christine in the original POTO, yes, but she deserves better than the sequel. Kayleigh
Yeah ... umm.... It was okay. I mean, her voice is lovely, but when there's that much repetition in the lyrics you need to do something it. And I'm pretty sure that going up in the register was definitely a terrible move for her....
AMAZING' i really think either her kr Sophie shildve won cause Danielle just feels unexperienced and weaker but she tried to belt the last note in falsetto so it just needed to land softer but she shdave been top two with Sophie :)
Goodness gracious why downy every just put her down cause of her last note when I doubt half of you could never have done what she did on that stage that night. She is a beautiful singer and a good singer, and even if she didn't hit that last note perfectly she still looked confident and was having fun that whole time
They've changed the key...it annoyed me when they went on about how good her 'soprano' was, when her only 'soprano' note was the last two, and the very last was hideous.
Ever tried dancing around stage for two minutes and then getting anything loud out? SHE HIT A BLOODY HIGH B FLAT! Give her a break! Seriously, even if the choreography isn't strenuous, she was still moving around quite a lot in heels, and hitting a note like that with that much power is hard enough anyway.
This performance makes her look bad... But actually, they gave her a song that was a tad bigger then her range. She did her best, and remained in character, which in my opinion is better. The Wizard of Oz is full of character, but no top notes like that...
@theoneandonlySS1995 That ugly man you probably mean is Lord Adrew Lloyd Webber, he might be ugly, but he is brilliant. Looks aren't everything you know... :p
note was off but wasn't that awful, and she was moving! the reason she looked like she nailed it was because you have to cover it up, you don't stand there with an ugly mug saying 'i f-ed that up!'
What a delightful atmosphere surrounded by her beautiful voice she sang.
she's sooooooooo amazing! and such a lovely lady, met her two weeks ago love her
This gets better the more I watch it. She's really incredible
This gets better the more you listen to it
I think she was FANTASTIC!!!
she's doing so well in the west end now, and deserves it!
@LingLingRox originally, the last note on "night" matched the last "all". Going higher is optional. Maybe they were trying to test her range.
wow....that end note was...just...yeah
Loved it until that last note. Beautiful girl. Beautiful voice.
i have to be completely and brutally honest here...i LOVE her hair in this
Well said! Bravo! Besides, Charlotte thought that last note was 'absolutely gorgeous'.
@BroadwaySongbird27 you are so right - she belts higher than I have heard anybody do before
@amyelizabethweafer I am sorry to say i too disagree. AMAZING!!!!!
Great song

Wow she amazing !!!!!!!!!!
懐かしい良い歌ですね♪。Good song!
schleep. hahahaha love it!!!
lauren should have won!!
my fave song!
and her dress was stunning"
xoxo
She's a mezzo belter - and if you're used to singng mezzo it's hard to switch into soprano!! That makes it easier for real sopranos (but none of the girls there were sops :( )
she has such an amzing range. when she belts those high notes it sounds like butta
@amyelizabethweafer
if you've done this song a thousand times..you'll be aware that the final note in the actual score isn't a B flat anyway. i think ALW encouraged her to go for something extra. also, i too have a very well trained ear.
Beautiful girl, beautiful dress and a beautiful voice
@4minutewarning I have a very well trained ear..I've done this song a thousand times.. and a B flat is not at all high for a soprano..even most mezzo's can hit it :) She's usually brill but she just had a bad night..:(
Pretty sure it's in C major...making her last note a high C, not B-flat. Or else the transposed it down. Belting isn't great on this piece.
Perfectly!)
Oh wow. Here I was amazed at her talent then that last note pierced the air, I think my ears are bleeding.
She killed the last note.
What a fantastic performance!,there is only one true star and that's Lauren, she was robbed! She was probably too good for this anyway,i know she'll go on to becoming a huge star,Good luck,Lauren, you were simply the best!!!!
I like how the entire song was transposed down for her....
there is no shame if they changed the key to make her feel more comfortable cause she can still sing and did very well. good job! in theater, its common to change like that
That last note was no good. Everything else was great! That last note was just not right.
I agree I agree. Oh I so agree...🤦🏻♂️ chump.
Her voice was the most beautiful, but I really hate her acting, which is a pity. At least Andrew Llyod Webber sounds like he's gonna sign her for something regardless. Very talented, glad she didn't win but equally, she deserves to become something big!

@sexiishannona Parts of that note were right. She kept wavering, like she didn't have enough air or experience with that note to hold it.
@amyelizabethweafer
yeah that's true.
anyway hope our lauren does well with whatever she gets offered :)
@Deeeplyshallow lol you are so right .i notice what great legs all the girls had by week 3 !! I know i am deeplyshallow as well !
mint
The last note is tight but other than that she did an amazing job
Oy. Its a no for me. I suppose I'm simply too accustomed to a voice as golden as Julie's it make me a bit skeptical of anyone to tries a song she's sang. Don't use grace-notes in excess, it hurts the ears.
Ricky Anthony uhm wtf. Julie originated the role onstage
It's not just her beautiful voice either. She's with the band.
everything was sooo wonderful.......... except that last note its actually written to stay at a G but no she just had to go ruin it and go all they way up to a B - it's written that way for a reason
You mean high C
@KatieAckers I think it was top B flat actually :)
@Frenchie893 Good point ,
Stick with the High G that's written in the score and that everyone does -__-. the high C sounds silly here imho.
Was that a cat being strangled at the end!!!!!
@puppylover3166 I'm talking about the last note
@RozLaChimmer Of course they knew it, can you imagine Judy Garland wearing any of those Dorothy dresses? They pretty much showed as much leg as they could get away with
@amyelizabethweafer

@murbuzz Well she blinks a lot, murdered 'On My Own' and was the only contestant who couldn't actually sing 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' properly. Of course they needed to make her look better.
She was okay. Not ready for Broadway LoL
@Deeeplyshallow Haa just saying, all the girls have great legs, and I think the producers knew it. There were hardly any trousers or long dresses in the series! xD
@mnm7684 did you watch the end?
lol she looked like she thought she nailed the last note....
The last note is different or however you put it.
Fantastic performer through out the show - love her. Ok last night was slightly off but shewas the only performer who didnt have bum notes throughout the show - a shame everywhere homes in the one bum note she did in the show - which is probably why is doing so well now in the west end.
That last note is really pity because the rest of this is pretty good.
@4minutewarning Yes I am aware of that..but nine times out of ten it is changed..I changed it for an exam I did..it's not unusual
That last night wasn't out of tune, it was fine :)
Besides, not many people can get up to top E flat...
Anyways, Lauren was too good to be Dorothy. She'd better go on to do great things, I love her :)
It's been said a thousand times, but yikes on that last note. Not really screechy, but she definitely should have just sung the previous note again.
Yes I did superlittleboots. She wasn't high throughout until the end and then she went sharp. It was good but it could have been much better.
Who's the lady at Webber's left?
Why don't you all try and hit that last note and then comment again?
Leonie Schliesing you don't need to be a professional singer to know a sour note. Any musician or anyone with good hearing really could tell when a note doesn't sound right.
that last note hurt my ears.... rest was brill thou!
+Meredith Skinner Yes. She got the short straw with that song.
You can always transpose the song down into your range.
The song just wasn't as wow as the song her rival got. She had no chance.
I love her but the only problem was that her final note was flat and she thought she hit it :(
Is this a contest show or something?
Was this song always so fast? Man I'd be out off breath.
@cuband8 It's not that it was sharp. She was right on pitch. It just sounded dreadful.
@RozLaChimmer Oh come on if you want to look at legs you've got a fair few to choose from :p
AMAZING' i really think either her kr Sophie shildve won cause Danielle just feels unexperienced and weaker but she tried to belt the last note in falsetto so it just needed to land softer but she shdave been top two with Sophie :)
She has a really really really amazing voice but I don't think this song was right for her :/
Last 2 notes...eeek
Little messy with the end
only charlotte could pull off that last note.
this is in a lowered key, and her head voice needs some work
she is great.. the end was quite.. well.. it wasn't good ahah.. but the rest of the song was sung in a brilliant way :)
The voice is fine, just sing not this song. It ain't right for the voice. Could be great for other music.
I love Sophie and Danielle, but could either of them even begun to tackle this song? I think not.
It's such a shame, she did it perfect in the dress rehearsal :(
Ever tried dancing around stage for two minutes and then getting anything loud out? SHE HIT A BLOODY HIGH B FLAT! Give her a break! Seriously, even if the choreography isn't strenuous, she was still moving around quite a lot in heels, and hitting a note like that with that much power is hard enough anyway.
i agree! that was too bad!
god the last note...what a pity, the rest was pretty good
This performance makes her look bad... But actually, they gave her a song that was a tad bigger then her range. She did her best, and remained in character, which in my opinion is better. The Wizard of Oz is full of character, but no top notes like that...
Dear everyone when you sing a full song whilst running around in heels and then sing a ridiculously high note THEN you can say that she did poorly
She wants to be in musical theatre. She needs to work up her stamina if one song wears her out.
Liam Wragg i did this song for an audition in the conservatory, so yes i can say that this was awful...
Hey give her a break. It is difficult to hit that while dancing and not being able to get a good breath. It's hard. So think about that.
is this much lower then its ment to be??
That's too bad, but the whole things was pretty good.
that last note was excruciating. which is a shame. cos the rest was very good. but that was just arughhhh
Absolutely perfect except for that last note. What a... pity.
@NinonaNo1 I'm a mezzo and I can hit a B flat
@theoneandonlySS1995
That ugly man you probably mean is Lord Adrew Lloyd Webber, he might be ugly, but he is brilliant. Looks aren't everything you know... :p
